That’s interesting, I assumed lithium self heating required 120V AC power.

Nope, that would mean you'd need to be on the grid. While you certainly can charge (and heat) with an AC source, DC to DC, Solar or generator charging source will start the heating cycle. All the best!

I just installed 2 Renogy 400ah Rego batteries in my van. The Rego needs 15 amps per battery from a charger to heat. Under 15 amps and I get warnings. I can't seem to find a way around that so I think I'm going to make my own heating pads and insulated box. Will yours heat themselves from battery power or do they need a charger too?

Have you downloaded the full REGO battery manual? It's pretty thorough, aka massive, and clarifies all those alarm settings. Our batteries will not heat themselves without a charging current, either from solar (most often) or DC to DC charger while driving. We also have an AC to DC charger that we can use, anytime we've got a campsite with electricity, or moochdocking, might be once a year. It's a good idea to insulate your storage area and maybe use a battery heater to keep those babies warm in cold environments. Are the batteries inside the same space that you are? Just having them installed somewhere in the living space that you might heat will help keep them warmer on those cold nights. Best of luck.

@@FreedomInACan The batteries are in the living area but I'll only heat that area a few times a month and it will be off the grid in a really cold climate. Sometimes below the -22F storage limit. I have downloaded the manual and I believe the code is a Cell Charge Low Temperature Warning so just a warning before it goes into protection. The heater also has the red disconnect when there isn't adequate solar. I was hoping there was a way to use the batter power for heat, but I can easily make that myself for pretty cheap anyway. My situation is probably unique compared to most. So far I'm pretty happy with those batteries. Thanks for the quick reply!!

Yeah, that does sound pretty specific. So, sounds like an insulated / heated box is the best way to go so that it can continue to charge. For what it's worth, the AGM batteries, which are rated for the coldest climates, only go down to -5F, so this is a much better option for you. All the best!
