How do they compare to Eneloops: Testing and Analysis of the POWEROWL 2800 mAh AA Batteries

So there are quite a few other battery manufacturers out there that claim to have high-capacity, low-self discharge AA and AAA batteries. But, I haven't yet been able to find a thorough test and analysis of these batteries that confirm the bold, but plausible claims that target the Eneloop lineup of batteries.
So, I tested the batteries to see how well they performed. Watch to find out more.

Another great test video - thank you! It's really helpful to have someone apply rigorous testing to the slew of rechargeable batteries out there making wild claims about capacity, self-discharge, etc.

I almost bought the power owl batteries for my track pad. I've been using a set of much older eneloop's that likely aren't low self discharge and am getting annoyed at how often I have to swap out/charge them. I figured for tv remote controls and my track pad, a LSD battery would be the best. Glad I found your video!

It's probably important to note, for those watching in 2024, that the price on Amazon of the Powerowl AAs has stayed steady at ~$24 for 16 AAs while the Eneloops (non-pros) have skyrocketed from $30/16 to $55/16. So sure, you might only get 2000mAh out of the Powerowls (i.e. equivalent to the Eneloop non-pros) but you can have almost 2.5x as many of them for the same price. And Eneloops Pros are now $85 for 16. So $1.50 per battery or $3.50 per ($5.30/ for the pros), that really factors into the decision depending on your use case.

Every China made battery (AA, AAA and 18650) that I've tested using my BT-C3400 were about 60-75% of what the max capacity printed on the battery.

9:05 These are *not low self-discharge* batteries and they hold on average *only about 2.05 Ah* 10:15 There is a *huge amount of deviation in capacity.* This is important when using multiple batteries - the weakest link decides when your device dies. 16:06 If you are buying these for *use in things like remote controls or flash lights* (or things of intermittent duty), *these will disappoint.*
@Jo060

Once a week charging eneloop pro 50 charges a year in 5 years you have 250 cycles, so if it is 500 cycles it last 10 years at maximum capacity

Have you ever evaluated the Amazon Brand of NiMH cells ? I wonder how they compare to the Eneloops ? I have been using the standard Eneloops for general use for about five years now, and so far in the various applications, they have performed very well. I have about 40 devices that use either AA or AAA cells. Alkaline's like to leak and I have had Brand new DuraCell Alkaline's, leak while still in their shipping carton... That was the last time I used any... -BC

Hi would you test the most affordable AA/AAA rechargeble batteries alike eneloops like Tenergy premium pro 2800mAH and to me much better than ikea.And also if you can confirm about EBL I been avoided that brand since 2 or 3 years before market says is not LSD. Now says is LSB and other websites says a bad LSD brand. For now my election are ladda,tenergy centura ann premium pro and last option amazon 2400

Batteries made in China are notorious for scoring low on the tests...so I'm not surprised that Powerowls suck. I pretty much stick to batteries that were manufactured in Japan...as those typically rank the the highest during comparison tests. Amazon used to get their batteries from Japan, but when they switched to China, the quality of their batteries tanked HARD.

Lithium needs to be stored in sunny day weather and Nickel Metal Hydride can current cascade to fry electronics... WHEN... they are stored below 72F. I found problems only when traveling in -13F. Manufacturers need step up and start putting thermal ratings on all batteries.
@rich1051414
@rich1051414 3 года назад
When salts are dissolved in solution(like battery electrolyte), salts can fall out of solution at low temperature, which can wreak havoc(Like forming spikes that internally short the battery, or massively decrease the internal resistance and dump too much current). However, if the electrolyte isn't high enough concentration, the energy density drops and internal resistance is too high. Can't win for losing here.

@@rich1051414 I couldnt understand you. Here, the NRC was comissioned to research lithium ion safety. The NRC and the government shirked their paid duty during the Obama administration. Their conclusion was that lithium posed a high hazard. Why they are used in cars is unknown, but fuel burns also. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.nrc.gov/docs/ML1719/ML17191A294.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjQmY6Gy6_rAhVBU98KHToICuQQFjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw2v8rd5leGbF0uSKPT8uBdf

UR is for component parts that are part of a larger product or system. CE is self certifying. As far as I can tell, even Panasonic/Sanyo/Fujitsu, the Japanese makers of Eneloop batteries don't have UL. The Chinese lie through their teeth.
