What great technique for sewing buttons on pillows. I would have never figured this out on my own. Thanks Laura. Even us experienced sewers can always learn something new.
Laura I want to thank you for teaching me so much! I'm a beginner at Sewing and I love how u explain everything from beginning to end! I'd be so lost if it wasn't for you! Your my favorite so never stop teaching me! Jill in MN
Great job showing how to do simple buttons on both sides of a pillow. I'm off to see how upholstery cushions are done professionally. It's similar of course but they use a special cord which I have but I'm now thinking I might prefer a heavy duty nylon thread which I have large spools of I use for mouse whiskers on my catnip mice. Anyway that's what I was searching for when your cute 7 year now video popped up. (I've got 14 buttons to put on RV cushions I just reupholstered and the fabric is a marine canvas that's coated. This fabric is not friendly to needles or pins and it's going to be a challenge. I may need to punch holes through the fabric or maybe a hot poker to melt one. No matter what I actually do I have to be careful not to ruin my cushions. Out of 20 yards I have only about a yard left. No room for errors. Thanks for your shares so well done.
Thank you for this. I was able to repair a divot in a pillow from a couch that i purchased that came out. I just didn’t add the button (cuz it didn’t come with one) and this worked perfectly. Bless!!
Thank you for helping me finally fix my pillow and get these loose buttons off the counter. Initially I thought this would be intimidating. I think that was just my procrastination talking. :)
Big thank you Laura, this is an very straight to the point tutorial. I like your energy too! I can now apply this to my next bit of arty farty craft stuff :) love & blessings to you
Great, thank you! I find a better way to trim the threads at the end is to thread them all onto the needle, go into the cushion coming out as far from the button as possible, give them a little tug then cut flush with the fabric. This way the ends of the thread will be really long so no chance of the knot coming undone, plus the ends are completely hidden within the cushion (or whatever other project).
You showed an orange pillow which looked like it had one button. This is what I was wanting to learn. How do you sew a button on one side of the pillow??
I use upholstery thread and a long upholstery needle for such projects. The thread is super strong and the needle is really long. Hopes this gives you another option for adding buttons to things and thanks for a great tutorial. Always love all your tutorials.
stay away from the dollar type store thread and get a all purpose thread for your local sewing shop. Look for a sale and get grey, black, white and beige. to start with.
