In this video, I will share with you my process on how I integrate other player's licks into my own solos.
As a fan of music, every once in a while there will be something that will catch my attention. For example, this Frank Gambale song called The 6/8 Shaker. There's this particular lick that I really like, and I will use the software Transcribe to isolate the part and loop it.
The lick is in F Dorian, but I'm going to transpose it to the key of E, a key that I will use more. Once I've transcribed the lick, I'm going to see how I can use that idea on my own improvisations.
This lick starts with an outside note. The way I made it my own was transposing it to use it over other outside notes in this particular scale.
