There are a lot of micromotors to choose from. How do you select the best one for you? I put together a quick comparison video for you here. Also be sure to check out some of the other videos on Micrometers I have made.

I am new to this stuff and think I would prefer a micro motor to a pendant motor. I think it dragging behind me would be a complete pain. I want to be able to use it for drilling, polishing etc and with a hammer hand piece for setting which I understand needs to be able to run more slowly. Which configuration of hand pieces and controller do you think would be best for a beginner and give the most diverse functionality? Would I need a speed limiter on these? I have very little space. I have been reading about them for a while and still feel confused about the best option - it’s a pretty big expense. Maybe I would be better starting with a Flexshaft? Round and round I go - no decision in sight… BTW can you use the hammer hand piece fur engraving? I saw somebody using something that has a hammer action to engrave but am not sure if it is an entirely separate machine. Thank you!

Hello Melissa! Could you tell me how the torque of the 1050 or the 1040 compares to the Foredom Flexshaft TX or the LX?

I need an alternative to my Foredom flex shift. I am interested in getting a micromotor that will accommodate a jackhammer handpiece, as well. Is the Foredom 1040 capable for this? Also, I want to know what machine you might recommend for engraving/brite cutting, that is not pneumatic? Thank you for your time!

Thank you for this video. I love the work that you do and how you show the steps taken to get to that final project. 😃I am just starting out in jewelry making and on a limited budget. My current rotary tool is a Hardell Mini Cordless Rotary Tool, 5-Speed 3.7V rechargeable unit for which I paid $24.59 on Amazon. I have had problems with it stopping with any type of pressure, overheating and stopping, or the charge running out and stopping my work to charge it. I am planning to get a Marathon -III MICROMOTOR for jewelry from Amazon for $63.99. The RPMs are 35,000. Do you think this would work better for me for burring, drilling and all of the other jobs that I would need a rotary tool for?

The speed isn’t what you want. You want the torque. So while some of the machines will go up to 30.000 or even 50,000 rpm, we don’t use that in jewelry. Most of our accessories are rated at 5,000 - 15,000 rpm.

Thank you for your video. One question though: Are the micromotor (hammer)handpieces interchangeable with different (brands) of control units? I own a different brand of micromotor and would love to buy an additional micromotor hammerhandpiece. I seem to not find any answer on this matter. Thank you and love from Europe!

I will have to find out for sure. But I don’t think they are.

very cool, that portable one looks tempting for when i travel and get fomo from the bench 😂
@MelissaMuir

It is good for light duty work. It doesn’t have much torque for drilling.

Can collets for the Foredoom 1070 work with the Marathon III Micromotor SDE-H37L1 handpiece? The collet size is 2.30 mm and only fits my smaller mandrels. I am wanting to get 3.175 mm collet so that I can use smaller adapters for my smaller mandrels without having to constantly change the collets, risking damage each time I have to change it.

@@dawnleece9761 that is a Betty good question. I do not have a marathon motor. But they look to be a similar machine. I would reach out to gesswein to see if they know.

Wonderful info, sadly my foredom as you know did not last long although I was extremely careful following all your suggestions. Is it possible to order another hand piece?
@MelissaMuir

Yes. We’re you able to get in touch with Foredom? Or did I forget to send you their info?

I have just purchased the Foredom K0170 Micromotor. When the Power is ON and the Speed Control is OFF and then when I press down on the Foot Pedal the hand piece rotates very very slowly. Is this normal or should it not be rotating at all?
@MelissaMuir
@MelissaMuir 9 месяцев назад
Hmmm I don’t know. I will have to try it on mine to see if it does that. You may want to reach out to Foredom on that

Please tell me - do you need an air compressor for these engravers????
@MelissaMuir
@MelissaMuir 3 месяца назад
They are not engravers. It is similar to a flexshaft They have a rotary handpiece and some of them have a hammer handpiece. they do not require a compressor.

No. There are no brushless hammer handpieces that work with the Foredom machines at this time
