i love this format. i find it hard to focus on videos that explain one concept in depth. the use of examples and the fact that the advice you are giving is shorter and more specific to a particular case really helps me understand the concepts better. you could say i'm learning how to learn about learning through watching other people learn about learning from a very learned learner LOL
Hope you enjoyed this "one hour" session where I "briefly" covered some cases 😅What was your favourite timestamp and why? If you like this format and I'll try to do more in the future (except probably a little shorter than like a full-on Marvel end of phase movie....)
Amazing 👏 love the (studying a speciality in a foreign language) as this is my situation. There's almost Nothing about this subject on the Internet, and in Discord they kept telling me that you would talk about learning languages in Ascendent stage, whereas I'm still hatching 😅
Hi Justin, Thanks for your efforts in putting this together lots of value added content. This format was great but it was a significant time investment. The stories from your students made it personable although I think it could be paraphrased by you to make the total content shorter but still convey the weight of the lesson. A commentary on this video would be optimal. Good Luck.
Absolutely love this series - do more! I like the fact that you interact with other people and answer their questions, just like the Spaced Repetition and Motivation videos.
I find videos of you dissecting real life cases really helpful. I find answers to my problems, and also get a better understanding of some things by trying to apply what I know to their problem (searching for the underlying issues and solutions). To me most helpful part of Justin case 😆pt1 was when you recommended a different approach to learning mathematics. That's exactly what I was looking for, but I thought I'm gonna have to advance further into the course in order to find it. Thank you!
Sir, please continue with such sessions. I support such long sessions with time stamps/categorisation. What I will try to apply:- encoding= think before writing the frame of ideas and write down as your brain looks at it - make it a natural process, group them, effort to not let info be in isolation- grouping, trying to find out relations between them (digestive system raw explanation was really helpful). Approach learning as a step by step process where after you have done good step 1(encoding), you add testing/answering/linking/ more connections/ simplyfy /clean it up in the next steps of revisions( less time invested later with each successive revision) One line takeaway- learning is a more natural process, approach should be same, let the brain do more thinking. At 2:16:32- your take on scheduling. Deepest Gratitude to Justin.
My mind was blown at 12:50 when you talked about using words to explain math via mind mapping. Would love a mindmap example video on math. It just seems foreign to understand it the way you’re explaining it but I’m intrigued. Could you also link to the speech by the math professor you mentioned?
Hey! I felt the same way! There's this book called "A complete guide in how to study Study Maths and Physics" by Benoit Seron, a Theoretical Physicist. He talks about learning Maths in plain English first. I thought it was BS, but now that Justin confirmed this strategy I am highly intrigued!
@@shiru6610 Something that helped me learn math when I was in highschool was when my math teacher told us we need to learn the language. E.g. not need to look up at the board to write down what she says but just write it with the respective symbols as we hear it. Looking back that's just so me - I love languages, it makes sense that _this was the tip_ that stuck with me even until now lol.
Just finished watching the stream. Would definitely love more of these. It has helped clear up a lot of things for me personally, especially with the MBBS postgraduate preparing for exams. Really appreciate you making this available.
For learning Korean, out of personal experience I would suggest watching shows you personally enjoy that are in Korean with or without subtitles. Without subtitles and the interest of wonder, there will bring subtle research. It enables retention as well as application in your daily life that encourages memory growth. Disclaimer: my memorization and note taking process completely aligns with Dr. Sung, however this became a growth of habit. Word for word translations get lost in translation. If the vernacular becomes difficult, I would suggesting a Korean show with the similar business where the words you need to learn are similar. ❤
Hi It's Ty (the guy with the yellow jersey) Just wanted to thank you but also apologize for my zoom cutting mid outro Forgot to plug in my laptop 😅 Thank you again
@@jxy1748 The 2,4 rule and the learning method he gave FOR mathematics helped immensely. All the other advice that he have throughout the stream simply served to improve my current process
thank you justin, British year 4 med student here - been using your amazing ideas for both uni and personal study of the books I like; you’re a life saver 🫶🏼 learning about the pyramid of higher order learning changed my life.
1:07:10 Eyes/Eye Drops/(Item name)/Ingredients/(items list) Tags: Medicine, OTC, Relief, Dryness. To simplify the connection path, remove "Eye Drops", as the product speaks for itself. Unless you need Eye Drops because you are managing two or more or a list of Eye Drops products. For remembering the ingredient, a simple association and relation path is best: *Eyes - Product - Ingredient name*
When this man said “group words together” and explained it, my mind exploded. How can something that straight forward and simple fly over my dumbass head. I usually just repeat words I have to remember, but that makes so much sense.
This format is super informative! Thank you for making this! Hearing you ask questions and giving specific feedback is really helpful. Please do more of these videos! :)
Things I learned and consolidate please evaluate my mis concept if I have derived from this session Simple relational by grouping word Pre study from second doubt 2 and 4 relation of mindmap in wheel stroke mindmap Analysis and evaluation difference mindmap Summary video lectures can also be use for priming If u can't recall that's indicate information is isolated Using the way u are retrieved can be used as pre study Solving question--->notes---->video lectures Creates lot of repetition = information overloading Watch video lecture make basic schema and use explanations of questions to compare which ur basic schema and filling gaps Break between two study session can be used as low level interleaving for maintaining productivity Burst studying don't know much but priming for further course Idea of revision is to decrease ur isolated information re encode In better way
thank you so much.. I got so busy with school that I had to pause my icanstudy subscription to save money, I really appreciate having this so I can still learn to study!
Great session full of practical and efficient learning advices 👍 Learnt a lot... the participants asked some doubts I had myself and revealed some easy to miss mistakes in our methods. Also, 1:59:42, she was so mixed up! Glad you could help us all 🙌
Thanks Justin for this live stream. The mind mapping sessions were the most helpful parts, the participants asked good questions and your answers cleared up my misunderstandings as well as gave me reassures on some things that started to unravel naturally when I started to think in higher order level especially in physics 😊. I hope you do more of this in the future. Pls, I have a question. What is the best way to read for a current affairs exams especially when the past papers questions are not repeated frequently.
Thank you for these office hour type sessions. I reflected on shortcomings of my own approach to learning by hearing others case studies , and you fleshing it out through provide constructive feedback really helps me adapt to my scenario 👍✨ keep up the good work.
I think this format is a good idea. I just hate that there was Noone who was in my situation and I had to watch the whole thing to find out😅. It would be nice if it would somehow shortly sum up what the ppl who joined studied and what they struggle with. Also I'd appreciate it if someone somehow cut that part out where the screen freezes and nothing happens. I'd like to thank u for making this vid and everyone who took part in it and patiently waited to share their experience
Hello, Justin. Firstly, I would like to thank you for the effort and the provided information, it is truly very helpful and extremely interesting! Well, my question is based on the situation that has the first person, Mari I think, the girl that studies in a completely different language from her native one. In my situation, I am Greek and I study in Italy in Italian. Unfortunately for me, all the exams are oral ones, which means you interact with the professor face to face and the exam is all question based. There are a few to zero written exams. I usually translate 50 % of the text, using Google translator for paragraphs, or just some sort of online dictionary for separate words at a time. Sometimes I can suppose the meaning by just reading the text, however the Italian grammar confuses me and I spend time translating enormous paragraphs and even pages. Concluding, my problems are: I struggle with memorization for the oral exams, and have no idea how to correctly take these notes in order to have a brief repetition and remember everything even 1 to 2 months after each subject? (Studying pharmacy, by the way) I need to remember a lot of stuff because the subjects are connected to one another, so without a complete understanding of one material I struggle with the following. I hope you figure out something from this enormous message and I will be grateful if you respond me. Thanks again!
Thank you for live streaming. It’s covered some specific minor details of different topics which were not easy to understand at the time of watching yours's RU-vid videos.😊😊
I guess I'm struggling in compression when it comes to a topic, the depth in which I want to achieve in that particular topic is lacking compared to what I want. And it's really frustrating. Ah, and thanks for sharing what you know it's really helpful. Especially for someone like me who's struggling academically.
Can you do a video on how to learn during lectures. I try but the instructor give way to much info at once, I’m instantly overwhelmed. I rather stay home and teach myself.
Late answer but the other user alread said it: Preparation. Slides are usually out before the lecture, check those out. Write down questions. Most of the things you hear during a lecture aren't supposed to be 100% new to you.
Hi Dr Justin, your live coaching was really helpful! Please continue with the series, because I find myself better able to understand and apply your teaching especially because I can relate to some of the students here. I have one question: how much detail should you include in your mindmap? For subjects like biology, the details are important because the mark scheme requires a certain way of answering, but I find that my mindmaps get too cluttered when I try to include all the keywords from the topic :( How should I go about deciding what to include/not include in my mindmaps? And may I ask if I should be learning the details in another way? Thank you!
I have a question to ask, can there exist two types of mindmaps inside a work sheet?: and what to make first? 1. Descriptive: single concept mindmap 2. General mindmap: a strategically made mindmap that connects every smaller concept to one another?
Justin I have a weird problem, I forget information after I write it down on paper, I stop thinking about it. But till I don't write it, i can think about it on a higher level of thinking. Is there a solution to this?
I had a similar problem, for me the solution was to write ONLY questions regarding what I'm studying (and use it for revision). So ig you can do higher level thinking by writing it and make questions regarding about your insight in a separate notebook. Hope this helps you ✌️✌️
i feel they were more confused then before, particularly the 4th guy. why don't you do a clear step-by-step example on a book choosen by you or someone else in your community, and then you show exactly what you do with that book, read and think out loud? that would be really useful. 👍
are things like mindmapping & priming applicable for learning language subjects cuz like learning the vocabs, writing essays, there's too much topic to cover like it legit can be any topic as long as it's expressed in that language & I feels like it's diff than science subjects where there r only jus particular fields of concepts. Great livestream BTW!
Hi, i was wondering if you can help me with something. I'm an electrical engineering major and i have an issue with sitting down and working out the book problems from start to finish; the reason why this is bad is that these problems have new ideas in them and if u dont do them you will underperform in exams. I like studying and im pretty good at what i study, but for some reason, working out problems and solving them just sucks the life out of me, no one else in my major seems to have this problem. Can you please give me any advice to push through the questions? Anything will do.
Hello, i have a question: i really struggle learning new words in English, i mean i can't use them in my speech, even though i spend hours to learn them. What can i do?
I unfortunately missed the livestream to ask a question. I’ve seen a few of your videos and have been trying to put in to practice some of the techniques. But I was wondering if there was a technique more fit to use for learning sports and more specifically e-sports games. If you have any knowledge or opinions on that it’d be awesome.
justin how do you reccommend studying for topics where like you have multiple points under a heading? Like lets say- the disadvantages of deforestation and then like 5 points
my problem is that when i study- everything gets jumbled up in my brain.how do i fix that? like i study everything in detail but i can't retain it properly?
Hi I have not watched that many videos on your channel but can you bring some business majors/accounting major toppers students how they utilised your tips and tricks and got better maybe.
For med students what’s the best way to memorize drug doses. Because when in final year or on clinical rotation you have to memorize the does of so many drugs for various wards it’s mind boggling to make sense of that and it’s the difference between grams or mg or even 2.5 vs 0.25 that gets confusing to remember any tips for this type of numerical info that must be memorized exactly as is ?
Sir I have a Question that how one should study subjects that requires highamount of concept grasping along with application like case with Mathematics and Physics
Wow I cant believe that my issue was actually discussed in the very beginning 🥲 Like Marie im studying medicine in a foreign language and I was doing exactly what Marie did, so dr. Justin is absolutely right ✅ One must first level up language skills and that would pay off in accelerating learning potential. The best investment i did is this course. I kinda of wasted the first 4 months (my fault as I didn't manage my time properly and I under practiced everything) this new 4 months membership im gonna Literally apply every letter Justin says.
