A follow up video some months after the theater opens would be really interesting.

Seeing Roma in a huge theater with a sold out crowd was one of the best movie going experiences I've had. Theatrical experiences are important, and what all films should strive to be worthy of.

Going to school in a college town right now and the local historical theaters sold out when they replayed fight club, Dr. Strangelove, Alien, Shining … Not an experience you are going to get at chain theaters.

As someone that loves to see art house films but can’t make the trip to Dallas every weekend, I can’t wait for this theatre to open!

Just in time! I was pondering over a desire to start a sort of a theater house in my very small hometown in my country (Philippines). I reaaaaallyyyy don't know where to start, given that I have no connections or resources whatsoever but just learning how Jimmy started it really inspires me :)

Yup I’ve been to all of the art houses in Dallas and every Alamo Drafthouse and I have never considered Fort Worth as a place for film. Nor have I even thought about it. I’m amazed.

This is the kind of content I'd like to see from this channel and you. Thank you for making this video, it was very insightful and has inspired me to look into this further! I personally would love to see an interview with a movie theatre projectionist, maybe even someone who works at an IMAX Theatre. Would be very interesting.

I loved seeing this and wish you the best success. I opened my first twin art screens in 1975. You are going through the process to the point that I see myself from years ago. I also became a film booker/buyer for a large number of screens as part of my theater business education but operating my art house was the best for all the reasons you mentioned. 😃👍🏻

In the Netherlands we have quite a lot of art house film theaters and I love visiting 'm all. There's something about them. I don't have time to watch the whole video right now but I'll be back. Love your content!

13:02 I like the idea behind this! This makes it less like the opening of an art show, but also distinct from the multitude of multiplexes

This has been one of my top video essay channels for a while and inspired me to do a few of my own (not as creative as yours). I also love this because I've done a doco on an independent cinema as well. I think it's awesome to see you branching out into docos and other stuff, it's all very interesting!

I definitely agree on the social aspect. Showcase cinemas is showing one classic James Bond movie per week and I watched From Russia With Love. I have seen it before but watching it with an audience is something that cannot be replicated at home.

Great video idea! I've considered starting an art-house theater at some point, but wonder if it's feasible... thanks for what you do, brother! I grew up going to the Minor Theater in Arcata, CA, the longest-running first-run theater in the country - a great art-house.

This video deserves more views and more likes. Im watching this from Chile, and here we dont have a large number of art houses/independent theaters, and the film "industry" is non existent (the last film that was recognized around the world was A Fantastic Woman by Sebastian Lelio) I hope that this video would help me to open up an independent theater in my little town
@dwaynewhite1669
@dwaynewhite1669 5 лет назад
As someone who has worked in the drive-in industry for a while now, I can say that distribution is the hardest aspect. There are some companies that are just straight up assholes. Art house is probably the way to go, seeing how smaller companies want their movies seen. So, they are more likely to work with you on terms.

I'm not sure if I would consider Alamo Drafthouse and art House it's definitely a revival house but any art film that ends up there my only have a couple screenings, at least at least that's been my experience at the one in the cedars. The Angelica at Mockingbird and the uptown magnolia do a good job showing stuff though. I don't really go to any other DFW to theaters so idk about the rest but in general Dallas has a tendency to crush any type of entertainment that doesn't involve drinking, eating or a mega church, so hopefully we'll keep what we have.

I also think Netflix needs to release it's originals on Blu-ray and DVD. Give it a year, sure, but the movie collector market is not going to harshly impact the Netflix subscriber market. Right now we're all just pissed we can't collect our favourite new movies on disc.

I go back and forth. It comes off as really pretentious...but then again it's important to see all films as equal in potential to hit the emotional weight of great filmic exercises.

Lol the mainstream of the mainstream? How would you counter something like cidercade? All those old video games and it's definitely full of the mainstream people and it sucks... so these things can turn into whatever you market it as and all of a sudden it will just be old movie the old people with money like to see... Is that to dark or too extreme for a thing that hasn't opened probably... definitely, Fort Worth is definitely not Dallas too.
