If you live in Australia like me, you can do nothing. Everything attacks your drone. Birds. Bees. Koalas. Butterflies. Moths. Cars. Dingo's. Mother in laws.....

LMAO, I got to bees and literally lol, and after watching plenty of attack video could picture each one of the animals and bugs you listed attacking my drone. Then you take into account that everything besides most of the people want to kill you in Australia (not a knock on y’all, it’s at the top of my bucket list to visit) why would a drone be any different 🙈🤣

I live in Australia and was flying my drone and this female kangaroo came over to attack me. I think the sound of the props was making her agitated because she had a joey with her. Another day this Butcher bird was targeting the drone in flight and also when I had landed it.

I’m in Australia all creatures here are designed to kill, I have had many a drone taken out except for my 10” bladed props so large drones they tend to keep away, since then I have also tried different colours and red props for some reason seem to work , somehow I have never had one attacked with red props, coincidence? Maybe, but I have flown over 1000km just on my DJI Air 2S and I have some 20 drones and RED blades seem to keep them away, I guess the large the drone the less likely they are to attack, none the less I only buy red props now for 7” and smaller, just a thought

Yesterday, i flew my DJI Mini 2 100 meters to the sea from a cliff. Then all of sudden, a hawk flew toward my drone. (Panic mode activated) I switched to sport mode immediately then before i could react fast, the bird has already reached my drone and attacked it. Hopefully its feet touch the drone propeller and failed. The drone almost lose its balance and i pushed the throttle maximum then the bird tried to go after it, pulled the throttle down and the bird catched it again with its feet touched the props. Repeat it 2x more. Fortunately, the drone come back safe to the me! Lesson learnt: 1. Dont fly drone near a high hill with crowded forest close to the sea. 2. When the hawk go after your drone, push the throttle up, not down. Hawk is good at diving, but not climbing. 3. Abruptly movement is effective to fool the hawk 4. Sport mode 5. Dont panic! You will lose focus 5. Fly to a safe place eg: near people. The hawk feared people, but careful, you dont wanna hit people.

If you get into a tricky situation the best thing to do for an evasive manoeuvre is to fly up and get out of situation. It's harder for birds to fly up than dive down. I've had to do this a couple of times
@publiedos
@publiedos 5 лет назад
Yeah buddy, the problem is when you evade them by going up and they "cut" the possibility you bring it back and the more you get far the less you can see which means.... Stress, Nervous, Losing Visual, High Winds, Birds down there.... I felt myself in that situation and of course is not my cup of tea but I have to admit it works...until you bring down the drone and the birds begin to realise you´re still there...

Wow, great shots Gerhard! I had a close call with a pair of bald eagles... didn't even see them until reviewing the footage later. I published it as eagles and ice on my channel. The closest encounter was just a few frames, not in the video, where I could see my drones shadow on the ice, and then the eagles shadow flash right over it. Yikes!

I know I'm late, but I had a random hawk dive bomb my Phantom 4 Pro V2. It came out of nowhere. It bombed the drone so hard that it malfunctioned and landed in a fast moving canal. It was literally my first flight with a new replacement drone that DJI sent me. It still really sucks!!! Especially because I have 6 batteries high end backpack and sell over $1000 in accessories just sitting here. Basically every accessory I could find, now just sitting here.

Definetely yes... of course they attack the drone. Actually I got a problem with some crows while flying on FPV and LOS and I felt pretty comfortable UNTIL they begin to surround the Mavic and of course they attacked the drone and THANKS to that "special directive" that is inside any Dji drone, when the drone turns on 90 degress on the side the motors suddenly STOPS and there´s NO WAY you can get the control of the aircraft so my crashing was a mix between the two issues, the Crows attack and this "special feature" in Dji drones...at that point and thxs heavens the drone falls over a hill and not over anybody because even if you have the insurance they find the way to get out of the case and of course those birds too and you´re alone in front of the "issue" and try to explain something like that in the Court.... From that moment on I only fly my Mavic when I am pretty sure there´s no ANY bird in the surroundings OR I can get closer enough to check any attack possibility due if some of them attack the drone from an upper high... you cannot see really the attack itself, those animals are QUITE quick and effective so my recommendation.... miss one shot, take your drone back to the backpack and choose another location, it will save your day....believe me..!! Happy flying buddy..!!!!

Covering your drone with a shiny wrap that reflects sunlight would do the trick. Actually this why birds hunters never use a shiny shotgun birds can see that for miles and stay away and the same goes for drones . Anything that reflects sunlight on ur drone is adequate ...

I've had ospreys (I live in Western Australia) fly close to my drone (within 5 metres), seemingly to check it out, and when I've turned the drone to face them and get closer to get some footage, they've taken off. I've noticed the same sort of behaviour with fish when I've been skin diving. I've had very large barracuda follow me from behind in the Caribbean, only to have them take off when I've turned around to face them and swam quickly towards them. In short, I suspect that some animals are opportunistic and will bother things they can bother and run from things that come at them.

Just had an issue with pigeons while I was flying under a bridge crossing the canal. Did not hit any but they where triggering my sensors and stopping my drone in its tracks. Had to make a couple of passes under the bridge to get them used to the drone so they would not fly of their roosts as I passed.

'We're gonna need a bigger drone..' I flew Bolton Castle early doors, as I reached the top of the Castle, the ramparts, I disturbed a flock of pigeons that then circled my drone, they came in 'worryingly' close at times while I fumbled clumsily trying to cancel 'tripod mode', the darn thing just wouldn't cancel so I hit 'sports mode' as a rather effective 'plan B' and got the heck outta Dodge. Gerhard really did nail it with that sunset, astounding dynamic range.. must be the Mav 2 surely?

I didn’t have any video because I was busy adjusting the EV but I did see wings on my screen & the proximity sensor was going off like crazy and I noticed a smudge on my battery! -lastly how would DJI know if I did have a birdstrike or not to decline DJI refresh coverage?! Found this helpful as I have a problem with seagulls. I live on the coast so my drone is always being investigated by them, further inland we have red kites and lots of them (birds of prey) which will take a drone out no problem. If you are in doubt dont take it out is my motto to this. Its not worth losing an expensive drone if you are aware there is a lot of birds in the area. Flying up fast will prevent them flying up to catch you but be warned they can and will take it out if they feel your drone is a theat to the area. If you have a close call then land the drone and change your location.

Another great vid' thanks Dylan ... I recently had a to-&-fro of e-mails with the local Constabulary (Suffolk) regarding nesting birds. I just wanted to expand on your point, in that if you fly a drone in such a way that you 'recklessly' cause a nesting bird to leave its nest, it is classed as a 'Wildlife Crime' that you can be reported for, and here in Suffolk, a crime that Mr. Plod will take quite seriously! It's not just that you shouldn't - it's also that you risk being reported by a MoP (Member of the Public), and fined! There is also a risk that an anti-Drone MoP will use the excuse that there are birds nesting in the surrounding 100 square miles, to stop you flying ... Which was why I engaged in the e-mail correspondence - which clarified the situation in that the Police have to see or hear that the drone operator intentionally scared the bird off the nest, or flew recklessley in the area without regard for nesting birds - before they will proceed with a prosecution.

Took it for my 3rd flight today over the ocean and I got attacked again by a magpie. Hit it 3 times but still stayed in the air and I landed it safely $700 and all this has happened in a week I've got to carlm down until magpie season is over. I have been victim of bird strike. Not a drone but on a maiden flight of an r.c. Airplane in Florida. A buzzard came out of nowhere after I took off. He dove right at it and smacked the right wing. The wing came off and the plane spiraled into the ground like a lawn dart. Complete loss. I was only able to salvage some of the electronics. It was the last time I flew a fixed wing aircraft. I agree with a previous poster that with a drone just throttle straight up as the birds don’t expect such a maneuver because they expect a typical bird maneuver of course. So when they prepare and correct in air to kamikaze your drone they expect a side to side or dive move. Going straight up confuses the hell out of them enough to get away!!! I promise it works!!!

Oh yes, birds have to be taken seriously. Once I was flying my Mavic 2 Pro over the river Danube when a crow launched from a tree on the shore and was flying straight to my drone. The crow checked my drone out, but didn’t attack it and flew back to the shore. So obviously, for this crow my drone wasn’t a threat. Thanks for the tip with flying fast upwards. That makes sense. When you are able to leave the scene fast the bird thinks you are retreating and the change is good that the bird is losing his interest in your drone.

Hello from 🇺🇸Harrisburg Pennsylvania 🇺🇸 I have both Phantom 4Pro with 5 batteries 🔋 & Mavic Pro with 3 batteries , 🔋 The Mavic Pro I pretty much take everywhere when I’m Jetskiing or riding around on both of my motorcycles 🏍🇺🇸🛵 cause the Mavic pro is small enough to fit inside both of my compartments on my Big Boy Toys ,If I’m not taking my Woman 👩 with me I always take my Phantom 4Pro plus and can put it on my back seat 😎 My question is should I upgrade and get the Mavic Pro 2 with fly more kit $1900.00 or keep what I have ?

I wouldn't fly your drone around Largs in Scotland... Have you seen the size of those 'BAD BOYS'.
@PaoloCalvi

One of the reasons birds are annoyed by our drones is because of the downward facing sensors. Birds are able to hear the ultrasound emitted by the ultrasound altimeter. The best advice is to switch completely of those sensors, especially when you are flying on water because in that environment they are not only ineffective but can also cause your drone to crash.
@DFDuck55
@DFDuck55 5 лет назад
That might explain why I never have problems with hawks with my Mavic Pro, but my buddy always gets hawks going after his Phantom 2 and 4. I always turn off all the sensors on mine. To my ear the Phantom's sound like a swarm of angry bees, that might annoy some birds. The Mavic's don't make that angry bee sound. Turkey buzzard aren't bothered by either Mavic or Phantom and fly around the drone as though it's another buzzard. I have video of an Osprey doing a friendly fly-by on a Phantom 4 then just flying around nearby, never showing any aggression. But the first time my buddy brought one of those 3 inch micro drones to my place as soon as he launched a hummingbird attacked it. That little quadcopter has no sensors, but hummingbird are quite aggressive toward other hummingbirds.

@@DFDuck55 If you notice the fact that the ultrasounds may irritate some animals it is also mentioned in the manual. Yet not everybody reads the whole manual. It is also impressive how a DJI drone manual is more accurate to mention every nuances of using the aircraft in comparison to the Boeing 737 Max manual has being completely skipping the existence of the MCAS system that killed 300+ people.
@DFDuck55
@DFDuck55 5 лет назад
Paolo Calvi: The Boeing 737 originally didn't have or need MCAS, so isn't included in the original manual. Then they added bigger engines and relocated them which caused a nose-up attitude when accelerating. The MCAS was added to deal with that issue, and was meant to be fully automated so the only operational instructions written for it were basically, "if it gives you problems turn it off." The 737 MAX crash last October happened after they turned the MCAS "back on". The issue with the MCAS, which is now being resolved, is it didn't compare the two attitude sensors. If the sensor on the left says you're going up too steep, it wasn't comparing it to the sensor on the right to determine if one sensor or the other is wonky, so it tried to trim the nose back down. I think they've change it now so it compares the two sensors and if they don't read the same it alerts the pilot and disables the MCAS, and hopefully totally disables it so you can't just flip it back on.
@PaoloCalvi
@PaoloCalvi 5 лет назад
@@DFDuck55 It seems you are completely into this issue too, although what you say is generally correct it gets even a bit more complex than that. You can read this collections of articles www.seattletimes.com/author/dominic-gates/ and especially this one www.seattletimes.com/business/boeing-aerospace/boeing-altered-key-switches-in-737-max-cockpit-limiting-ability-to-shut-off-mcas/ that explains that a better solution was and it is to have two switches, one to cut off the MCAS and the other to cut off electric power leaving the option of having electric assistance in the trimming as to trim manually could become virtually impossible for the forces and time required to recover.

Ive had the experince here in Los Angeles when i fly on the the bank of the Los Angeles river bed its always some types of birds flying there i guess its the water but u REALLY can do nothing but just hope they leave it along pretty much we are in their domane we and manned aircrafts are not suppose to be up flying in the air any way just like here in california they have built houses on mountains and at the bottoms of foot hills and there's always bears in the community going in trash cans and swimming in peoples backyard swimming pool we are in the bears mountains and territory we dont belong there and just like the ocean we dont belong in their water their neighborhood how do u avoid getting attack by a shark stay out of the water thats why we have concrete swimming pools in the back yard if u want to go in the water for a swim.its just like asking the question how do a airplane avoid a bird strike u really cant it comes out of nowhere. We are not suppose to be up in the air any way its not like the birds are thinking hay lets look out for those little human beings mechanical flying machine. Lets leave their expensive air crafts alone be cause they spend a lot of money on those flyin thingies thats up here with us lets just give them a pass ok.

Are you suggesting that Ken Heron’s famous eye stickers done actually work?? 😳😳 on a serious note, the nesting bird issue is a big one for me where I live. However is does annoy me that the local authorities refuse to publish the areas where they would rather we not fly. I have discussed this with Hampshire counsel before, if only they let us know where the nesting bird areas (and times) were we could avoid them. I have also suggested that they set up no fly zones in drone safe, but to no avail. As a result, often, I find out an area is sensitive after I have flown it.....which is no good at all ☹️

@cscape1973

Roger St martin the inability to fly in these areas already exists. All I’m asking for is the information to be available. Surly you are not suggesting that you would fly somewhere that was harmful to the environment. No neither would I, which is why I would like the information available before I prep to fly, rather than find out after, or get stopped during.

REally? So what does dji care cover than? I took it just for problems like this since I am a beginner. Ie some how you crash your drone as long as you can recover it. And dji care it is not cheap. You pay 40 euro for a year and have to pay an other 40 if you make use of it. So it will costs you 80 euro's for a replacement. Still better than the full price and lets hope I never need it.

We have a lot of great birds in Australia and all the ones I've encountered while flying my drone have been very adroit at not hitting it. They very curious though in some cases tough, and will mob a drone in largish flocks occasionally. Here's an episode captured a while back at me local wetland. These are Corellas, a type of large, white cockatoo. The a few of them jump me at about the 25 second mark and then return from behind soon afterwards with the rest of the flock. Flying straight and level without making any sudden moves seems to work. They manage to miss each other in the air so... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wcVleLhChak.html

So, I guess birds are more aggressive when the chips are down....! One tip for birds, slowly-slowly, catchy monkey! A slow pan on the outer edge of the flock gives them time to get used to your presence and for you to ascertain if it's safe to get closer. Remember you can always ascend to get away, so long as you stay below 400 feet, or a slow retreat - which are reactions a hunter wouldn't do. But, a simple thing easily overlooked is that switch on the side of the controller. If in doubt, switch to sport mode and get the "flock" out of there...! (Sorry 😏)
