Hey Mark, I was looking for a video on how to take my lower unit off and stumbled upon this. So funny, I just bought my first boat, 1988 Bayliner ciera 5.7L OMC and have only used it for a couple hours before the lower unit started banging! Super scary. Funny it’s the exact thing that happened to you. Glad I caught that part about the SEI unit, I think I’ll go that route too. Great video!
This was an awesome video. Very clear. I have a OMC/VPSX with the cone shifter now, but I used to own an A1G2 with that dog clutch. Nice to see how all of that works, thanks to you. 👍
Nice cutting that open. I have a 77 Mercruiser R behind a 302 that ran low on oil. Smoked the very top bearing on the drive shaft so far that I can see. I’ll probably never take it apart like you said due to the cost of the tools.

Thank for your instructional. It's really helpful!
Yes and the splines where not reverse cut like the merc one of the problems, the other is the shift cable stretches a little and the gears jump by. Junk, merc and merc only
Hello, I have a question, when you install the reverse pinion, shall the dog clutch be in reverse position or in neutral ? Thanks in advance. Best regards.
