In this video, I’ll answer the question - how does dry cleaning work? Today’s washing machines are so powerful, that they can handle almost anything, be it a really thick blanket or your most delicate undergarments. But even with their slew of features, there are still certain garments that are better dry-cleaned, such as woolen coats, silk pajamas, leather jackets, and evening gowns made of velvet.
Many of us own one or two of these, which is why there’s a huge chance that you’re a regular customer at your local dry-cleaning place. And like most other dry-cleaners, they probably enforce strict rules about the clothes that you bring, as well as how they release them back to you.
But once you’ve left your clothes with them, what exactly happens? How does dry cleaning work? This video will answer these questions.

Thank-you, Mario Turcotte, @marioturcotte7938 you inspired me.... So I did some fact checking.... In the February 27, 2019, Smithsonian Magazine, article: “The First African-American to Hold a Patent Invented ‘Dry Scouring’”, Emily Matchar, writes: That “Thomas Jennings invented a process called ‘dry scouring,’ a forerunner of modern dry cleaning. He patented the process in 1821, making him likely the first black person in America to receive a patent.” Emily goes on to write: “[Thomas Jennings] daughter Elizabeth, a schoolteacher, rose to national attention in 1854 when she boarded a whites-only horse-drawn streetcar in New York and refused to get off, [holding] on to the window frame when the conductor tried to toss her out. A letter she wrote about the incident was published in several abolitionist papers, and her father hired a lawyer to fight the streetcar company. The case was successful; the judge ruled that it was unlawful to eject black people from public transportation so long as they were “sober, well behaved, and free from disease.” The lawyer was a young Chester A. Arthur, who would go on to become [the 21st president of the United States] in 1881.” In her article Emily cites the 2004 book “The Inventive Spirit of African-Americans” by Patricia Carter Sluby, as her primary source. Just another book for me to add to my reading list. Thank-you, Mario

@@LetsTeach Mario Turcotte's, comment was very inspirational to me.... So I did some fact checking.... This is some of what I learned: Not only did Thomas Jennings hold the first patent for “Dry Scouring” but was likely the first black person to hold any U.S. Patent. In the February 27, 2019, Smithsonian Magazine, article: “The First African-American to Hold a Patent Invented ‘Dry Scouring’”, Emily Matchar, writes: That “[Thomas Jennings] daughter Elizabeth, a schoolteacher, rose to national attention in 1854 when she boarded a whites-only horse-drawn streetcar in New York and refused to get off, [holding] on to the window frame when the conductor tried to toss her out. A letter she wrote about the incident was published in several abolitionist papers, and her father hired a lawyer to fight the streetcar company.
