I waited for almost 8 hours in emergency with a broken ankle. When I was 16. No painkillers, no ice, no vitals check. Just smiles and "we'll look at you soon" for 8 hours. It was great. I love it. Would have gladly paid a grand or more for the x ray and cast.

Roma in the states you would be taken care of quickly. Probably in minutes
@JC-cu4ek

And then have to sue. Been there; done that! Stay away from American hospitals. If injured, insist on being sent home! Also, Roma's lying. It's unethical and the doctor would lose their license. Common sense, man!

@@JC-cu4ek There is zero accountability in the Ontario health care system.Half of men die before they ever have heart surgery because the wait is so long.For every dollar Germany spends on its public health care system Ontario spends five.Each province has their own system.Can anayone say bloated bureaucracy? There is a saying ....women go to emergency....men go to the morgue.I asked a doctor some years ago what would happen if men used the "free" health care services like women did?He said the system would collapase.My sister had cancer after three months of tests in Michigan and had surgery four days later.That would never happen in Ontario unless you had some special "social" status.CANADA CLUELESS!

What get me is Canada does not have a NATIONAL Healthcare System. It is a Provincial Heathcare System and that sucks. Go to Germany, healthcare is not divided by provinces. So why is it when I go to another province and need healthcare, I have to pay. I mean, for example, how much more or less can a broken arm cost from one province to the next. This is pure BS.
@wengliwang1261
@wengliwang1261 5 лет назад
It sounds good, but still there's problem, for example, if you need a surgery, you have to wait for your order. If it's not emergency, it's ok to wait, but like cardiac surgery, MI ? It's dangerous to wait for a long time. Another issue is the tax is little bit high and you can calculate how frequent you can get a disease that need a surgery. Others are good.
@LifeInCanada
@LifeInCanada 5 лет назад
It’s the issue is urgent you don’t have to wait for operation. You will get treatment right away.
@wengliwang1261
@wengliwang1261 5 лет назад
@@LifeInCanada Yes, there's emergency, but the patient on the waiting list is not emergency case unless there's any changed condition. If patient suddenly experiences cardiac arrest at home or doing something, It's very dangerous. I ever had a patient died in the hospital while considering if need a pacemaker, because his nephew is a cardiology, he thought it was safe in the hospital, but he missed the best treatment time... Third degree AV block.

This lady is regurgitating the government's talking points. Let me clarify some of the important ones: 1- Depending on the province you can wait 5+ years to get a family doctor assigned to you. You don't like the doctor? bad luck. I know a lot of people that after 5 years of waiting they got assigned a nurse as "family doctor", if they had refused it, that would've needed to get back in line for another 5 years. 2- Unless you are visibly hurt, bleeding, in coma... you will be sent home with painkiller prescriptions. Nobody cares to take your case seriously. No follow-ups for further investigations, all you'll get is blood test that always come back clean - you are healthy, go home. 3- You managed to get a doctor's attention and you need more in-depth investigation? Lucky you! You'll be placed in line for a specialist in minimum 6 months. This while the healthcare system sucks 2/3 of out of your income taxes.

This is not the best health care system in the world. As a German born person, I find the German Health Care system is a lot more better than the existing system. In Germany you have different Insurance Plans but they cover Dentistry, Vision care and Pharma care and doctors can not change between insurance plans. I think this are lot better plans than what you have in Canada.
@JacquesPPage
@JacquesPPage 6 лет назад
You're right sir: Canada's plan is NOT the best... But, it's still a pretty good one by any measure. It must be improved and I hope it will. Problem is not the system, but the high level of doctor's control over it and their outrageously high salaries that put strain on it. Doctors' control and salaries are influenced by US practices.

Thank you so much for this video :) It is highly appreciated! I would like to ask: is healthcare free only for conventional medicine or it is also for homeopathy? If you choose a homeopathic treatment/specialist is it also part of the Ontario health plan or you have to pay for it ?
@jordanlarocque3756
@jordanlarocque3756 5 лет назад
Homeopathy is not covered. And healthcare is not free! You pay for it with every paycheque you earn. in Quebec they take more than 40 percent of your paycheck. Mind you that includes a bunch of other social services that government is bound to screw you over with at some point when you need it. At least that's what happened to me with with unemployment, social assistance financial aid for tuition etc. Waiting 8 hours to speak to a doctor is also terrible.
@Amy-ms6wj
@Amy-ms6wj 4 года назад
@@jordanlarocque3756 holy crap...40% of your paycheck?!?! Is that for everyone?! And even under these plans they are talking about? 'Allhip' or whatever?
@jordanlarocque3756
@jordanlarocque3756 4 года назад
No you don't have a choice and that's the problem. there is no plan, the government docks more than 40% of your paycheck to cover all socialized services including hralthcare and most of the time the money isn't used for those purposes. We have a brutally corrupt system, and yes health care is free because you pay for it every single pay check, but in my area if you go to the ER, unless you triaged under absolute emergency it could take anywhere from 4- 36 hours to even get to a doctor. Look up Gaetan barette a recent health minister. There was a story of how to save budget, he reduced the amount of soiled undergarment changes per day done by nurses, so basically the elderly were left to sit in their own filth for sometimes days....I'm not making this up.
@ursulasmith6402
@ursulasmith6402 3 года назад
@@jordanlarocque3756 Really, I never knew that. Here in the U S. If not covered m the hospital will reject you. You have to find a ride home and die. 8 hrs of waiting is better than to be sent home to die. That's the honest truth. No one dies on the way to hospital. The patient got sent back to die at home. Most people I talked to love the kind Canadian care.
@jordanlarocque3756
@jordanlarocque3756 3 года назад
@@ursulasmith6402 I have a lot friends in the US, I brought that up but they've never seen it beyond what they've seen in documentaries. Even if you see a doctor in Canada, you still might kick the bucket. I waited 6 months for a free colonoscopy to make sure I didn't have colon cancer....6 months!....if I had cancer, I would have been dead. Our system is garbage and isn't much better than the US. It sounds better, but it's a piece of shit. Everyone here loves our system until they're in it. Then they want to protest. I remember when my wife gave birth, I basically had to be a DIY nurse for 3 days. The only difference in Canada is the fact that you can't get turned down by an insurance company. That's it, at least US hospitals have staff, Quebec is currently lacking 4000 nurses.

It's only free for some people... people who pay taxes pay for it, it's free for everyone else Kind of like having to pay for your own health insurance because you can, then someone takes a portion of your money to pay for the people who cant. And everyone gets the lowest common form of care, regardless of ability to pay for it, except for athletes, politicians and recently arrived illegal refugees like Taha El Taha who was lucky enough to have been diagnosed with cancer just after crossing from the US.

@8352731

I guess Emergency is a misleading name. So ... let's say I'm cooking and accidently cut myself with a knife badly enough to need stitches. Therefore, I go to the Emergency department of my local hospital or clinic. The Emergency department (which is called the Casualty dept in the UK) prioritizes patients according to the urgency of need. So, if someone comes in experiencing chest pains, they are seen before my & my cut finger. I am OK with that.

When I studied in Canada, I did get free care through the university I was at, at their clinic. Just like any student enrolled there. Otherwise, they did not accept my insurance at hospitals or pharmacies. They charged me and told me to request a refund through my insurance. Now, I had purchased my insurance at home in the USA, but since you purchased yours in Canada, it might be different. Contact the university for details. Since you are not Canadian and not a tax payer there, I assume your coverage is not total.

Here is an one example of the differences.... Epi pen in the US is $715-$810+, and in Canada it's $114-$124 for the exact same product. Why does the US have such a markup? Profit....period. Canadians do have the option for low cost supplementary insurance that can be purchased or their employers will offer it (benefits). This covers services that isn't covered on our basic universal plan.
