Guys this episode is getting me too pumped to train harder again. Holidays training with superstars in Jamaica, feeling like your old self as a runner and having ambitious goals… absolute magic. Love the energy and love the inspiration, thanks :)
My wife and I met Andy at Southampton parkrun today. Great guy and had a cool little chat with him. Thank you for taking the time Andy, really appreciate it.
On hydration - consider time as well as distance! Slower runners are going to be out for much longer time even over a 5km or 10k distance so water may be required, especially in warm climates.
Do come to Australia! I might be biased, but the Sydney Marathon has some of the best and most iconic views: crossing the Harbour Bridge, running along the foreshore of Pyrmont and The Rocks, out for a lap of Centenial Park then coming back into the city for a run through the Domain and the finish line at the Opera House. It's not the flattest marathon in the world, so you probably won't be setting any PBs, but it is one of the most beautiful runs you can do.
🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲 glad you enjoyed your visit here, it would be lovely for the team to come out for the annual Negril Half Marathon in December it's a lot cooler then 😂! Great podcast!!
LOL thank you so much for answering my questions! The vest question was because I was thinking of buying one for my first marathon . But so far I've never felt the need
Always love this show, such good banter and running advice in equal measure. You should try and get one of the team a place in the Berkeley Marathons in Gloucester in August!!
Thank you for talking about how Jasmin Paris became a unicorn. Her achievement is incredible and was extremely thrilling to watch (through browser refreshes of Keith Dunn's tweets.
What I didn't know until after this year was that the first ever Barkley marathon finisher was also a British fellrunner. That lot are a different breed, I've done a few fell runs and always come out of it with some injuries and/or mental trauma.
At the risk of falling into the category of an ultra weirdo…I am sock, sock, shoe, shoe guy but with a massive gap from the socks to shoes. I generally put the socks on maybe an hour before the shoes go on, all the prep time, stretching is done in full kit minus the shoes. Watch is 100% left Would love to join you all in Malaga at the end of the year! Count me in!
I would love to be able to do the Málaga marathon with y'all. I'm mainly a triathlete now, but my big triathlon is in July and I'm looking to switch my focus to fully running afterward maybe do a half marathon/full marathon by December, and I'll be in college in Spain so Malaga would be perfect timing and location for me. Y'all will have to keep us updated, but I've loved listening to the podcast, you guys have kept me motivated as I've gotten back into running and being fit overall, and doing that marathon with y'all would be so incredible!!
In my everyday clothing for work, I'm a sock sock shoe shoe. In my running attire, I'm a sock shoe sock shoe mainly because I don't want to touch the floor with my clean running sock. I never wear a hydration vest or carry water and also never pee'd myself during a run. Those things may be related, sorta.
Sock shoe sock shoe psychopath here. My reasoning is that once I put the sock on I don't want to get the sock dirty by putting it on the floor, so I put the shoe on. I want to keep the sanctity of the sock. 🙏 😆
Congrats on that time Andy! I think a fast 5k would be really interesting. Would love if Sarah could try it too so we could see how they both train for it.
i've watched the Andy's 1k video. And Im still amazed on how he's fast. And he doesn't look to go that hard. It must have been hard to race against him. All the folks being red and out of breath, then Andy.
More insanity - putting on: right sock, right shoe, left sock, left shoe; tie right shoe, tie left shoe, making sure the laces are perfectly straight (and same length). Taking off: both shoes (doesn’t matter which one first); either tucking the laces into the shoes, or putting the left shoe’s laces to the outer left of the shoe, and the right shoe’s laces to the outer right; then the socks (order doesn’t matter). Also, lefty wearing watch on left wrist.
yall came for Rick this episode 😆😆 I hate the debate about the hydration vest 🤣 glad that my side of instagram is all pro-vest for whatever reason you want it. I highly support letting people do whatever they want as they seem fit, but tiktok feels like a place where they want to dictate what is right and proper? (not just for running but with a lot of things).
Sock, sock, shoe, shoe when at home cause the shoes stay in the hallway. At a race, sock, shoe, sock, shoe to prevent socks getting dirty. Greetings from Daniëlle (Femke Bol country)
I mix things up. Sometimes sock, sock shoe, shoe. Sometimes shoe, sock, shoe sock, But always the left foot first. With regards to hydration vests etc - if I'm going to be out for more than 90 minutes or so, I take at least 500 ml with me. Generally I drink 500 ml an hour.
Olympic distance triathlon for Andy! Really I’d love to see any of the presenters do any triathlon but I think an Olympic distance will be a big enough challenge to be worth a video series.
I just want to say it doesn't matter about sock-sock-shoe-shoe or sock-shoe-sock-shoe (though s-s-sh-sh is definitely more correct) what REALLY matters to me is BOTH shoes must be on before I start lacing, so I can properly match the tightness on each foot. -Mark from Markham
I do either sock sock shoe shoe or sock shoe sock shoe depending on context. For example, am I sitting down to put my shoes on or am I standing up and sliding my feet in. This winter I've been wearing double socks and trail shoes for the snow and then it's sock sock slipper slipper in the house and the slippers come off and it's left sock layer two left shoe, right sock layer two right shoe. Also in terms of watch wearing, I just got a xl stretchy watch band so that I can wear my watch on my ankles (I switch back and forth) because I kept getting it wet and it started to stink up my wrist. No amount of washing and disinfectant made a dent in the grossness.
How about an episode on training kids. I have 9YO twins who I run with year round. 3 x 3km easy for most of the year. 1 x 2 km tempo, 1 x 1.5 time trial, and 1 x 3 k easy with a few hill pickups during their racing season.
Please come to Aus!! Also im sock sock shoe shoe. BUT I noticed I do sock shoe sock shoe sometimes when I want to see if I can balance on one foot for a while.. And I am watch on the right now because I got a tattoo sleeve on the left and it fucks with the HR. Devastating!
As much as it pains me to say it being a proud Melburnian you should look to show some support to the Sydney marathon as it’s in the process to become a major in the future, would tie in well as a tour down under just don’t forget to visit Melbourne while your at it 😎
A half marathon in spain in december??? sign me up get away from the cold. Normally I am sock sock shoe shoe, but after the gym in the changing rooms due to normally having a wet floor I then do, sock shoe, sock shoe.
I’m right handed and wear my watch on my left wrist (which I think is the most common, to wear on your non dominant hand), but my husband is left handed and wears his watch on his left wrist. We both have Apple Watches, and I swear he gets more movement and exercise points because of wearing his watch on his dominant side than I do and it drives me crazy!
And I’m a sock shoe sock shoe person if I’m putting them on at the same time😬 but honestly most of the time I go to put on shoes to leave my house I’m already wearing socks, so by default then I’m also a sock sock shoe shoe person.
On the back of the sock sock shoe shoe thing, I'm a sososhsh myself. With summer incoming and lighter evenings, what's best and which are you, shades or cap or shades and cap (aka shady chaps)?
Sock sock shoe shoe. Also, i live in the tropics but only take a hydration vest for runs around 20km. Anything 15-20km i'll usually just take a little soft flask in my flipbelt and anything less than that i just hydrate before and after.
How about a cross country event for Andy? Though I'm interested in seeing how well he can improve his middle distance times more than subjecting him to something stupid like ultras or triathlon
Sock shoe sock shoe, yes am not bothered about going barefoot (Asian). Also found that I can brush off my foot, put on sock and then shoe without getting sock dirty. Then brush off the other foot - sock - shoe. So both feet and socks are clean and the inside of the shoes too. win win win 🙂
It's not looking good for me in the shoe or watch debate! 😂 I'm sock, shoe, sock, shoe (we have a drooly dog, dont want my socks getting wet!)...and I wear my watch on the right wrist (had a wrist reconstruction many years ago after breaking my left wrist, can't bear to wear a watch on it now). So...weirdo all round I guess! 😂
