Brilliant video, thanks for posting. Now I know how/why my Fiesta ST sounds the way it does. Excellent work Ford!

I like it.. and thanks for the upload, much better than searching through hundreds of pages on forums to find the real answer. It helps being able to hear your car when you drive a manual. and the tuned sound is no surprise, they do they same thing with exhaust sounds, all aftermarket exhausts have different sounds.

+Ray Walker Brandon and I both learned a lot from spending time with the Ford engineers. There is a lot of engineering that goes into these cars and most people never realize it nor understand the parts they are modifying.

I just bought a 2017 Focus ST...and I'm curious.. (because i love the sound), if you were to change your engine (adding a SRI or CAI and BOV), will that affect the sound too? I guess it will right?

congrats Chris! The Focus ST and Fiesta ST use very different systems for the symposer. When I made changes to my Fiesta ST induction system, it didn't change the sound of the symposer, but instead you can really hear the intake roar and bypass valve vent back into the induction system. On the Focus ST, going with the Mountune filter will create more sound than stock, but I don't think it will change the sound being supplied by the symposer. Any change to the intake system that opens up the filter will provide more sound, but be careful not to ingest hot air. I use a modified factory airbox on my Fiesta ST to keep the filter isolated from hot air.

BRGT350 thanks!! No clue what I'll mod on the car. I'm more invested into photography but I for sure love turbo sounds as I've owned two diff mazdaspeed3's before and I miss the intake noise and BPV sounds as well. Just don't wanna lose any of that with this synposer thing.

my suggestion is to start with the Mountune filter. The BPV is really loud when using one of the adapters sold on the market. It is great for a WRC car, but sounds a little too much on a street car. I have heard a few and haven't been impressed. The factory turbo dumps excess pressure back into the induction system and then out the filter. Adding a free flowing air filter doesn't muffle the sound as much. The next modification I suggest, if you want to really wake the car up, is the Cobb AccessPort tuned by Mountune. I have that on my Fiesta ST and doing the same to a Focus RS shortly. It changes the car dramatically and one of my favorite modifications. Those things alone will really make a difference. Neither will affect the symposer.

BRGT350 thanks man!! I used to have an AP on both my mazdaspeed3's... so I've just gotta save the money and get one for this! I feel like I would need at least an SRI or something?

From everything I have seen, the best option is the filter in the factory box. It keeps out the heat and has fresh air ducting to the front bumper. A short ram intake loses the fresh air and sucks in hot engine compartment air. I started out with the Mountune filter and Mountune tuned Accessport on my Fiesta ST and it was a great foundation. I am working on putting together an RS and will be using the same thing on that car. Filter and AP from Mountune.

hi. do you know if the symposer was changed at all. my 13 plate st sounds a lot quieter than my girlfriends 64 plate st does. both stock fiesta st s. uk cars. Cheers. Matt.

not sure, I have only been in a 2014 and 2015 ST. Both of them sounded the same. It isn't uncommon that there are minor changes between model years or even during a model year.

Sounds like you're using the same audio clip and just using filters to add / remove the sound, it's not an accurate representation of what it would sound like without the symposer vs with. Someone recording from their cabin before and after a symposer delete would be better.

I am sure the audio engineers at Ford knew what they were doing.

@@BRGT350 Well , they definitely knew what they were trying to sell. I personally think this whole concept is silly regardless of the car it's implemented on and deleted this nonsense.

I own a focus st with this kit and I had a check engine light come on, the ford dealer told me the light came on due to the sound symposer delete kit.. Is this factual??
@BRGT350
@BRGT350 9 лет назад
+Rob Medeiros possibly. The reason would be if the delete kit caused a boost leak and that triggered the light. Any boost or vac leak would be detected and trigger a light. That would be the only way I could think of a light being triggered by the delete kit.

They should have had the connections, but plugged up, and sell the sound symposer via aftermarket, to those who want it. Not only will it make the car cheaper, but it makes it more enjoyable for those who're just using it to drive on the streets.

I haven't found the sound symposer to be loud at all. It is drowned out by road noise, exhaust, and radio. Even with the radio off, I never hear mine. I find the ST in stock form to be very quiet. I added an aftermarket exhaust to my ST and it is still quiet. With a helmet on, it is hard to hear the engine at all.
@ProDigit80

I agree. Which is why it doesn't make any sense having it in the first place! It only makes sound when stepping on the gas, at lower RPM.
@BRGT350
@BRGT350 6 лет назад
I am pretty sure it makes noise as long as air is moving through the induction system. There isn't anything to make it not make noise at certain RPM's. The air in the induction system vibrates a membrane that transmits sound via a tube to the dash. It isn't a mechanical or electrical system that is tied to RPM or load.

This doesn't actually explain how it works.

Way to spend millions making a car sound worse...
@BRGT350
@BRGT350 8 лет назад
how does plumbing intake noise into the cockpit make it sound worse? It is the same sound you hear with an open element filter under the hood. I love the sound symposer in my ST. I also doubt millions were spent, probably closer to sub $100k.
@michaelomalley141
@michaelomalley141 8 лет назад
+BRGT350 no probably millions as its not just a concept applied to the fiesta, other models have it too. I hated it in my ST, it was the first mod I did was a Mountune delete kit and was the best thing I've done to it so far
@michaelomalley141
@michaelomalley141 8 лет назад
+BRGT350 and its soooo not the same noise as an open element filter, that's real induction noise, no plumbing and special boxes with paddles that flap back a forth to create "a synthesised" engine noise, it's a forced and fake sound
@BRGT350
@BRGT350 8 лет назад
we clearly won't agree on this one, and that is ok. I like it on my Fiesta ST and see no reason to remove it. The Focus ST version is very different and that is more a "created" sound compared to the Fiesta.

+BRGT350 it is fine. Proof people can disagree on the Internet and its not WW3 lol
