Mega_Gamer/Jeppe I used to think that but it really makes no sense, it wouldn’t make sense for him to try outright kill broly after even if it was the vegeta in him, would make more sense if he smiled cause he thought the battle was over cause he launched a powerful ki blast at him, and it’s never stated by anyone that soul punisher = stardust breaker cause if so why not just call it the same name

The thing is, it DOES kill evil things by extension of erasing bad energy. You see, Fusion Reborn is not the first instance of "bad", "malevolent", or "evil" energy being mentioned in Dragon Ball's mythos. Evil Ki is an actual thing possessed by evil beings in Dragon Ball. This is why characters are able to point out how a Ki feels evil when they're sensing a new enemy they've never met before. However since Ki makes up your life force, if Gogeta were to use Soul Punisher on someone like Frieza, he'd probably explode from the inside like Janemba did, but unlike Janemba he wouldn't reform into anything because there is no good beneath a surface. Frieza is just evil. In DB, when a being is completely drained of all their Ki, they lose their life force and die. So naturally erasing bad energy (or evil Ki) would result in death for the malevolent entity who is being targeted.

That's fair, but they are two seperate entities. The boy lived, Janemba, the evil that possessed him, was cleansed and died in the process.

But that would mean they disintegrate cuz they are pure evil

it's a 50% if they have a little good within them and not all evil so people can not die on impact.

Kind of, just not as severe. Devilman can literally kill those with any amount of evil present in their soul and only those with a pure heart can survive his technique. Stardust breaker purges any existing evil within the target. Since Janemba was made of pure evil energy it erased him completely. Broly, however isn't that evil, if at all and that's why we don't see as big of an effect on him. (I'm aware that fusion reborn isn't canon btw, I'm just speaking in terms of it being the same move.)

No when gogeta explained it he said he put some of his own life energy into it which turned it into the positive energy

This attack can be called both the Stardust Breaker and Soul Punisher

The old one is called soul punisher, the new one is stardust breaker

Soul Punisher is when he does the attack where he blitz them super fast proceeding with that flip kick and the stardust breaker is the actual ball technique.

No because spirit bomb has to gather genki or health energy in order for it to be a spirit bomb but stardust breaker can be inspired by the spirit bomb because the spirit bomb apparently “only kills evil”

Yeah, I'm just a bit iffy since they usually share parts of their name, like final kamehameha, and big bang kamehameha, so Stardust Breaker would be an outlier. Probably just a fusion exclusive technique like the Ghost Kamikazes, or DIE DIE missle barrage

We don't know enough about the attack to give a full answer but it could just be different variations of the same attack

Not necessarily, it only killed Janemba because he was made up of nothing but evil energy, so when the attack purified him, there was nothing left. So far we don't know how lethal the attack can get, but considering Broly was hurt by the attack yet remained alive, it mainly depends on how evil the victim is.

@TSR I think so too! I believe Gogeta could have also modified the Stardust Breaker to be more destructive, so it can deal physical damage too if he wants. If you count the games and see the way he hurts everyone with that move, this would be a great explanation lol.

I’m sure it boils down to Gogeta imagining how destructive and how powerful Broly had gotten, and how much he could continue to progress. At that point, in favor of preventing the destruction of the universe, he had to sacrifice Broly in order to prevent him from losing further control and becoming more unstoppable.

In a way, the two are similar, they're not quite the same but their purpose is very similar!

As of now, there is no official correlation between the two aside from them having similar executions and outcomes. It would be interesting if the two were connected in a way though!

It has been shown to do both. Look at Broly, who got injured from the attack while getting cleansed at the same time

Well actually in the original DB we got that Akkuman dude with the Akkumite beam who did basically the same thing and fought against kid goku, so goku having seen that would try to do a similar thing. Now, asking WHY goku didn't do that against any other pure evil guy he met (like you know, EVERY SINGLE VILLAIN) is a whole another story ahahah. Still love DB despite these plot holes tho

Since it is useless against someone who is pure-hearted, that means that when Broly was hit by it, it probably did not damage him? That makes sense. Though how one pulls off the attack, I’m still not sure. How do you take someone’s evilness and kill them with it? Does it amplify the user’s pure soul to destroy the opponent’s evil soul?

You would think so and I'm sure if the Zamasu portion of the fusion weren't immortal, he'd be gone in an instant. But considering Zamasu is immortal and Goku Black is not, it's hard to say for sure what would happen

Watch Salad Saiyan’s video on what if Vegeta achieved Super Saiyan 3? Vegeta and Goku would train together nonstop in the afterlife and learn the fusion dance. They only used it as a last resort against Merged Zamasu and Gogeta, as Super Saiyan Blue, used the Stardust Breaker against Merged Zamasu, erasing his body and his immortal soul too, eradicating him completely.

Pretty interesting thought. Perhaps the Stardust Breaker is a combination technique of the two fighters similar to Final Kamehameha? Maybe it's a Spirit Bomb mixed with something of Vegeta's like his Dirty Fireworks attack, no one knows though

My thoughts are that those types of abilities were exclusive to the Metamorans such as soul punisher, the ghost attack, and that volleyball attack.

Technically both, I've seen people refer to it with both names. If you want to get technical though, Stardust Breaker is the actual orb of energy Gogeta throws and Soul Punisher is that rush attack he does to Janemba before forming the energy
