How e-Waste Is Recycled | GreenShortz

Here's how e-waste gets recycled. Whole computers, televisions and printers in one end and shredded and sorted bits of metal, plastic and circuit board out the other and it is pretty cool to watch. Because of the toxic materials in e-waste it is important to make sure it gets recycled properly. PlasMet e-Solutions is an Atlanta, Georgia e-waste recycler. They help local communities add e-waste to their recycling programs. For more information visit www.plasmet.com

Agreed Tom. Btw.. Tried to message you on FB, not sure if it went through. No big deal... Also, forgot to mention earlier... Great video. There's a big debate about what happens to the e-waste. A lot of folks think the local companies strip the copper and gold, then send the rest to China so they can get past the environmental restrictions and just melt the stuff down. The process you showed clears that up completely.

With computers instead of getting a new computer every couple of years just upgrade the motherboard. That’s one thing great about custom builds you can do that. Have software that measures how well the computer is running. Also have better fan and cooling systems to ensure runs a longer time. Have air filters to reduce dust in computer.

If you took out the parts that are still working you could easily sell them cheap and still make profit make a web sit with cheap components rather than shredding them you could get the material from a dvi cable and only make $0.04 or you could sell it for a dollar plus shipping and make a full profit of $1.00 and do that with all your electronics and you could make a lot more money

I remember seeing some digital high end cameras on eBay being sold by a recycler. It does my heart good to know that someone at the recycler was keeping an eye out for high quality good stuff to save. I'd much rather see something being sold by the recycler and able to start a new life rather than being broken down to its most basic parts.

What a waste. I know some things are completely kaput, but some are saveable. I found a 1970's record player, complete with speakers, on our local dump. It was in very nice condition, and needed the BSR motor board serviced, adjusted, and the potentiometers sprayed with Servisol, a good clean, and away she went again. Sold it for £30, about $40, to someone who wanted a record player, and not one of those horrible chinese Crosley things !
@Green_Shortz
@Green_Shortz 7 лет назад
I'll agree on the waste angle. So many people have no idea how to fix stuff. I can tell from your comment that you know what you are doing. At this plant they had a 4x4x4 box nearly full of Canon DSLRs and lenses. They had actually pulled them out to check them to see if they still worked.
@riverhuntingdon6659
@riverhuntingdon6659 7 лет назад
Thanks for that, other things I've found were a brand new, unused, electric crockpot, a cyclonic Hoover that merely needed a good clean to get it going, and a very old set of early LED Xmas lights. Just needed a suitable power supply and away they went. I often salvage audio items, as things such as cassette recorder heads are getting hard to come by, very often you'll find an all-in-one with a kaput CD but the tape player's never been used ! It can often be re-used to make an older cassette sing again though, and of course 8-tracks, reel-to-reels, and even rare STEREO microcassettes seek repairs or sanctuary here. As you can probably tell I restore older equipment and my home's something of a museum of electric appliances. I've a 1920's cylinder Hoover, a Hoover 375 from 1932, and an ancient tea kettle from july, 1940. Thankfully my Tennesseean wife loves old things too. Happy Holidays, warm regards, River.

The problem is not electronic equipment should be designed to last longer, the solution is to have less designs. For example having only one union design of TV or car or pc. Then manufacturers get permission to build it. Every five years it gets updated. Then second hand internal parts are reusable across the board. At the end of product life it is easier to sort and recycle.
@nityaupadhyay4552
@nityaupadhyay4552 3 года назад
Nice explanation!!
@Mr_Chris__
@Mr_Chris__ 4 года назад
One of the best ways to reduce the amount of electronic wastage is by not replacing our electronics too frequently. Why throw something away if it's not broken? Whenever people replace their televisions or whatever, the old one can be sold or given away for free as long as it still works. In the event it is faulty or damaged, it's possible it could be repaired or sold for spare parts.

+xcvsdxvsx Making money by doing the thing that is against your morals? Sometimes things are worth doing for more than financial gain. We are shepherds of the planet, yes we reap the benefits of the resources we have, but greed and recklessness can easily taint those resources. Who says we can't make money AND leave things as good or better than when we found them? Is that really such a mind blowing and unachievable concept? You really don't understand why someone like hydrolisk1792 would support a company that benefits not only him but his entire community? Nothing but pure selfishness will do so, our only concern is personal benefit... say hello to the tragedy of the commons.

Custom built pc I think are the way to go. A full atx case with a full power supply shouldn’t need to be upgraded for a long time. Swapping out an ATX motherboard, processor and RAM should be the things that are done. Build motherboards with standard processor sockets, RAM sockets, and other sockets that could last a lot longer. Just upgrade the processor, Ram and the Video Cards. Minimize the number of times the whole computer has to be replaced.

@@davidwillard7334 They really have not much to say in that. I mean that make a few computer but they are not really computer manufactures. One was a CEO and Microsoft is a software company and a cloud company. All in all its about how much money the computer manufactures can make with their machines and continue selling new machines. I guess the best thing is how we can take these old computers break them down into raw materials and send them back to where they eventually become computers or other electronics. The other thing is working toward doing all this with getting a higher percentage recycled and lowering the cost at the same time.
