World Cup 2014 will go down as a good classic no matter what. From playing the demo getting hella excited for the game to release to playing the full game w/ your mates whilst watching the tournament in the evenings
The 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cup games were awesome with tons of features like Captain Your Country and Road To The Fifa World Cup, plus many teams to use. The 2018 World Cup add on we got for Fifa 18 was good in terms of graphics but it lacked the popular features from standalone World Cup games and there wasn’t as many teams, I think we’ll see the same for Fifa 23. It’s disappointing that we may never get a standalone World Cup game again. 👍🏻
FIFA has stated they will be releasing standalone world cup games for this years in the same announcement that detailed the split with them and EA. Although with how close it is now and no new info on it, I can’t really see it happening.
2006 still has the best FIFA soundtracks. It honestly felt like it represented the music of the world with having multiple genres from different countries and languages.
Hell yeah brotha. I still bang the 2006 World Cup soundtrack. So many classics such as La Prima Volta, The Power Is On, Desi Swami, I could go on. Just thinking about it makes me nostalgic for 5th grade.
@@siddharthbhatii It's buggy as hell though. I'd rather buy the individual console instead (they aren't so expensive anymore depending on where you live), though 2010 FIFA World Cup has become more expensive to buy individually (still have my OG copy from 2010). I was able to get 2014 at a low price though.
WC2006 was the first soccer game I truly cherished and I was blown away with how feature rich it was for a 360 sports title. 127 teams, qualifiers, obscure players, an HD satellite map, the whole package, and it had one of the best FIFA soundtracks ever. The game's presentation + that soundtrack is the most memorable. Then, EA managed to out-do themselves with 2010. Oh man, the great memories. Sadly, I never played 2014 when it came out, but I played it over the holidays in 2021 and it hit hard. It felt like I was catching up with an old friend. These games mean so much to me and it's a bloody shame that EA killed the series. When the DLC comes out, I will at least hope for qualifying rounds and some of those other cool features. RIP Simon Humber, your games made our childhoods and I will forever cherish those great memories.
2010 World Cup game will always be my favorite, I remember EA was lazy and didn't develop 2014 for the Xbox One and PS4 which released the time of the release.
Worth noting for the 2002 WC game that while the standalone game did not have the qualification process, the vanilla FIFA 2002 DID have the qualification process for the 2002 World Cup as one of its game modes, similar to FIFA 98: Road to the World Cup. EA also used to make standalone games for the UEFA European Championships starting with Euro 2000. However, they really got the ball rolling with Euro 2004 and especially Euro 2008 (the latter of which could be seen as a "warm-up" game for their 2010 World Cup game, with a lot of similar modes). However, Euro 2012 was paid DLC for FIFA 12, which was massively disappointing. The license for the Euros would eventually go to Konami afterwards, who then released them as free updates for PES 2016 and PES 2021 respectively.
Euro 2012 at least had the qualifying modes and all Euro teams. Konami's 2020 DLC didn't even have qualifying modes, story of qualifying or even all the licensed stadiums!
@@edwardmerriam6970 Euro 2012 DID NOT have the qualifying mode. It had the journey mode to form your own team where you play against the real groups from Euro 2012 qualifiers. There was no option to play qualifying strictly. Not to mention that Euro 2016 DLC was much much worse: not containing all Uefa members, only having Stade de France in Saint Denis as real stadium and also no qualifying mode.
Man I loved these games. I played these more than FIFA. One thing I did was bring Redemption for Ghana to beat Uruguay in 2010 so that an African Nation will win the World Cup in Africa!
The streets will never forget 2010 and 2014 world cup games, for me more so 2010. I remember my uncle would force me to play as DR Congo in the campaign. Good times fam the atmosphere the soundtrack and different modes its a shame it deteriorated come 2018
These were my favorite video games. Waiting every 4 years to finally be able to play every nation. Wonderful memories winning the World Cup with my country 😢
The FIFA World Cup 2018 dlc for FIFA 18 was rubbish. If you are going to give something then give the full experience. You had no qualifying rounds to take your desired nation to the main tournament, bare bones amount of teams. No Global Challenge like in FIFA WC 06 where you could play historical scenarios, no Captain Your Country, Story Qualifying or Expedition Mode which were some great moes in Euro 2008, Euro 2012 DLC for FIFA 12, World Cup 2010 and 2014 which made those so much fun. In those games we can take the likes of India, Fiji, Pakistan, San Marino to the World Cup and in the 2018 version they gave us nothing. An absolute rip-off.
2014 was the best FIFA World Cup Game. I was able to play as the Philippines 🇵🇭 and take them to the Final to beat the favorites at that time, Spain where I beat them 3-2. I still have a screen shot of that. Great game, I still have it.
@@declangaming24 Remember that not everybody can afford consoles... 2010 and 2014 are standalone games and they should have been released for PC. I was quite disappointed for them not being released.
Those games taught me Geographics especially WC 2010. I was so hyped for this piece of Software, went 5 days before release to the store and got it 3 days before release. So sad and angry that EA dropped this series
I have endless memories of my dad and uncle playing FIFA World Cup 2002… very, very, competitively. They went as far as buying a replica World Cup to take home when they won, and would always talk trash before playing again. They never played any other FIFA game, and to this day they still talk trash about it to each other. The World Cup games are always something that I have deep nostalgia for, and it’s weird to see them fade into obscurity.
06 FIFA WC hit hard for me. It's a shame EA got so lazy with these late WC DLCs. It's actually a good thing FIFA didn't renew with EA, maybe we'll have a decent 2026 WC stand-alone video-game like the old days.
Only time i ever got to see Eswatini lift the World Cup😢 imagine playing with them in the 2010 WC game then seeing them the next day when u go to the cinema. Amazing
What a video! I felt like this was needed for a long time, someone actually remembering us how EA destroyed their own legacy... I'd make a change on the tier list, for me '98 was one the best, not only because it was the first one that introduced the game modes, but the attention to detail was simply outstanding. I was 5 at the time, and being able to learn about the classic matches and the overall feeling of being part of such a massive event like the world cup was there. I feel like nowadays games are made with no passion, and every mode feel the same, like an online/offline ultimate team with different skins.
Picked up a 2nd hand copy of 2010 World Cup on PSP recently and was amazed how well its held up and all the amazing features that even let's you go back and change the course of history with the qualifiers/playoffs which is kinda awesome and after years of hurting I even managed to feel a little bit of solace regarding Henry's outrageous handball in that infamous playoff that so cruely robbed Ireland of WC Qualification
FIFA 2006 was the best for me. It had those what if matches and challenges that you don’t really get with now since its all about online gaming. Also it had features like playing a match with no outs and more that would definitely keep single playing interesting.
Brother I agree with everything in this video.. My first soccer game growing up was wc2006 on the psp, and what a game it was, gave me the chance to qualify and win the World Cup with my two countries Peru and Canada who were far from it then, and also learn almost every capital city In the world… then 2010wc game on ps3 was absolutely perfect, so I saved up and bought myself a ps4 in time for 2014, expecting there to be wc2014 game for it… never happened, and since then it’s been sadness… World Cup deserves more than an incomplete add-on… ea sports is the worst
The 2018 and 2022 World Cup DLC's we got were just awful. They didn't have amazing modes like Captain your Country, Road to the FIFA World Cup, Story of Qualifying. To give the 2018 World Cup DLC credit, it did have all 12 stadiums used in the actual 2018 World Cup. The 2022 World Cup DLC had 2/8 stadiums used in the actual 2022 World Cup. The 2018 and 2022 DLC's only had every nation that qualified for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, respectfully, and a few extra. The 2010 World Cup game has 199/204 nations to choose from, and the 2014 World Cup game has 204 nations to choose from, making qualifying and World Cup games fun.
5:57 That sounds like something out of an action movie when the villain is already defeated and the hero is disappearing on the horizon after some cool phrase
First PS1 game I ever played was FIFA 98 Road to World Cup, everything about that game blew my mind, all the national teams, the stadiums with the intro cutscenes, transfer markets. The simulation was really weird so you ended up with very strange groups at the final stage. World Cup 98 was a blast too, with the official kits (back then it wasn't the norm), the stadiums of the WC and the amazing soundtrack (both games). Kids these days hate EA, but for old guys like me who know what they were capable of, it's just sad what they turned into
As Russian , who was waiting standalone for WC18, I was hella disappointed, but at least, I played at the stadiums, which I visited. So, at least something. Amazing video
@@BCHD amazing, especially for semis, Argentina Nigeria and 3rd place match. Disappointed by the fact that people underestimate WC18, as worst of this century
2014 was the year when e-sports started to gain popularity. That's why EA wasnt giving a shit about relasing 2014WC game on new gen. TBH i won't be shocked if they release 2022WC dlc as FUT exclusive, with updating offline rosters and adding WC to tournaments section.....
FIFA 2002 did have the European, North and South American as well as Asian qualifying for the World Cup with all the teams present but not with real names for most teams. Once you got through qualifying though that was it as the World Cup itself was not on the game.
I remember playing 2010 WC on pc coz it was free. Loved the game and my mum kept deleting it so I kept downloading it again. Can't find it anywhere now
I think part of the reason they put 2014 on the old consoles was to cause an intentional profit drop to justify not making the standalone games anymore. They saw where the money was with fifa and did everything they could to drive the game towards ultimate team
Maybe relatively less known, but Simon Humber (God Bless him), one of the pioneeers and strong supporters of the WC series (i.e. The need for EA to capture the Magic of the event in a game) passed away on cancer in 2015….hence I feel we didn’t have strong initiatives on WC games since then. I want to be honest and realistic: I think well and truly WC games are over, for the business mind mentality of EA (“efficient” allocation of resources) and the need to See a substantial return on their investment. We love WC games, but they are niche games, meaning few fans buy those (remember, another Full game at Full price) only to shelf it a few months later for the seasonal FIFA. WC games were essentials for EA to get established amongst fans, but once that market position was acquired, they started focusing on more Corporate needs I am sure some EA Sports FIFA employees must be missing the WC games, And I can imagine one Or two proposing to work on those….only to get to hear from their boss “Sure…as long as you do it for free because they won’t give us the budget” 😢
EA Sports have confirmed they will include The World Cup as *Game mode* within the FIFA 23 release, rather than release a standalone title timed around the Qatar Tournament. (August 23,2022).
honestly it makes no sense why fifa don't make em anymore its obvious they want money, they can add the wc ultimate team to the regular fifa for micro transactions and a new world cup game for $40-$60 they'll make more money
A few mistakes and wrong information Real kits for national teams were first available in World cup 98 NOT on FIFA 98 FIFA RTWC Before World cup 2002 Ea released the FIFA 2002 Road to World Cup for next Gen console and PC
Does anyone think its a coincidence that EA release the best World Cup game on previous Gen instead of PS4/Xbox One. So they could then point to disappointing sales figures as an excuse to scrap future projects and focus on the FUT update? Feels like Corporate Sabotage to me.
I think the reason we will not get a modern FIFA World Cup game is because its more appealing to single player people, being able to take a team like Vanuatu to a world cup is not something that a multiplayer focused game series would want you to do and FIFA in terms of modern video games hyperfocuses on Ultimate Team so they don't release something that appeals to someone with a more single player mindset. Like Franchise and Career modes are always more single player focused but each mode is just honestly a bit shite, because features are removed and not enough is added to the game mode. With FIFA World Cup 2014 and 2010 you had a lot being added now I personally like the amount of teams in 2010 and 2014 versions because I like the idea of a true underdog nation reaching the world cup and somehow doing really well in the world cup and to me a true underdog nation would be Cambodia, Vietnam or even Luxembourg making a world cup and it would be awesome to just have that. Like I will personally say for a simulation style game, the 2010 and 2014 games were great because you could simulate an entire world cup qualifying campaign and record everything down in a book and then basically watch your own qualifying journey of all the teams, I actually did this and I have all my results recorded on my computer and Kyrgyzstan did pretty damn well in the qualifying of Asia(they didn't make it to the world cup but rather made it to the final round of qualifying).
FIFA 98 Road To World Cup was the best. It had all national teams and you could play to try the full Road To World Cup experience with one or 32 teams. Awesome. PD 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil didn't exist on PC... so, for my, they were a failure (it was a time that main software companies thought that PC was dead... and they were deadly wrong).
i really feel like fifa didnt make spin off games for the latest world cups bc of the locations and bc the crunch of making yearly titles on top of them wanting to monetize any way possible
We all know why EA stopped making them cause they couldn’t be bothered spending the cash to create a separate game. Now EA & FIFA split they will return without EA.
Back in my college days when I had zero adulting responsibilities, I would go on multi-day coke bingers playing every match of tournament mode in the 2010 World Cup game. That and watch a lot of porn. Good times.
Oh 1998 I had both games, it was my first game on N64 (with Mario Kart 64). FIFA 98 was nice with every national team. World Cup 98 had a great soundtrack, and to this day this game keeps a special part in my heart. FIFA 2002 was nice. World Cup 2002 disappointed me, but I liked the introduction song. In World Cup 2006 I was happy about the presence of all national teams. After that I quit the world of gaming 😅
Been thibking avout it recently and i understand why peiple didn't like the idea of these games, but i think a big reason FIFA games went downhill was when they stopped doing these spinoffs. It allowed them to experiment a bit and try something completely different, some of which worked, some didn't. But that was then brought into rhe mainlines series
The biggest crime IMO is depriving PC users from standalone World Cup versions and focusing only on the console market (excluding the 2018 DLC). While the 2014 World Cup got a DLC for the PC version of FIFA 14, PC users got nothing for the 2010 World Cup, meaning that to experience the thing playing the game via an emulator for the Nintendo Wii (since PS3 and XBox 360 were and still are difficult to emulate on PC hardware) was the closest the PC users got back then. I mean, sure, there was a mod for FIFA 10 (I guess) that remade the game to look like a standalone World Cup game, but it wasn't the same. And while having a standalone game coinciding with the World Cup tournament is great and all, they were just the latest iterations of the FIFA games released months prior with some exclusive graphics here and there.
What a Cool Video! Fifa World Cup 98 was Actually my Very First FIFA game and the First Ever Game I played on the PC and Also the Very First game with Polygonal Graphics I played Ever. lol It had tons of Firsts I suppose and I Loved it Many times! XD until eventually it died X(.... There was no way to repair CDs back in the day. I remember buying the Box, it was a massive box, looked like a Cereal container XD i'd been use to Cartridges on my 16 Bit Consoles I'd never seen anything like it and there was a sort of Romantic Melancholic side to it that doesnt exist anymore and hence why I dont care for Physical media in today's market. the contents on the box were so cool, it had posters, some EA ads, FIFA stickers, an actual Manual. It was probably the easiest game i'd ever installed too, i'd never installed a game before (another first ever), i had always been used to the plug and play consoles of the time. But When it started up, it was so exciting and then I see a guy about to kick the ball and Chumbawamba starts in the background HOLY SHIT!!! its so awesome just remembering. it was an incredible experience back then i dont know what else i can compare it too, it was magical! 2002 I also played but didnt enjoy as much as the 98 one, 2002 was just a weird ass world cup and I think it left a sour taste in many of us. we couldnt believe Italy and Spain were knocked out by south Korea XD. Uruguay, Argentina, France (current Champions) and I believe Portugal didnt even leave the stage group and The thought of the USA beating Mexico was unheard off. so, the game reminded me of the weird shit that happened then. I just couldnt enjoy it as much as 98. I believe that was the last FIFA world cup game i bought. Then I had to grow up and Adult for a while. Didnt get to play FIFA again till around 2008-09 and it felt different but great and then I had to Adult yet again around 2011 I think that was the last FIFA I played until FC2024. its gotten pretty bad and its a shame that theyre missing so many leagues. I enjoy your vids cause theyre helping me catch up a bit on all I missed. hopefully you post more "historical" FIFA content if we can call it That
I can tell you were only six in 2006 by saying Germany were favorites two win the world cup 😂😂😂 2002 was a miracle and 2004 we absolutely got destroyed in the euros. Then Klinsmann took over and did an completeley overhauled the squad. No on expected anything.
We don't have WC games anymore and we can't play WC in FIFA anymore. Not even in custom cups, because the national teams in FIFA now are almost exclusively from Europe, not even Brazil is licensed. EA is stupid.
Honestly(and you can disagree) having the World Cup as free update is better, since if you think about it, a FIFA fan buys every single FIFA game each year. You would buy two games that are nearly identical. You could just buy one game and have World Cup content in it, and you wouldn't need to spend that $70 twice. So it saves you money. Content wise though, I agree, there could've been more modes
World Cup 98 was probably the game I played most on my Playstation. I have so many fond memories of it. The 2002 game was damn fun, but it was a bit too arcade-like. Only played the 2006 game a few times because I was a Winning Eleven snob at that point. Never played the other games, but due to the shit that is eFootball I would spend money for a World Cup game right about now.
