In this short video I demonstrate how to remove the PVC (basic insulation) from a class 2 conductor.

I use the CK side cutters with the 1.5 and 2.5 holes in them. Absolutely love them

Control cable tends to be 0.75 and 0.5mm Multiple strand too.

@@dogwalker666 in those cases is just apply less pressure. You can feel it can’t you. I suppose after using them for years you don’t think about it that much. Everything is fairly easy after that amount of experience.

@@itchy_gooch7933 oh I can use side cutters, I even use miniature electronics side cutters, But with the small stuff the copper is softer than the PVC, And the silicone rubber is a nightmare.

This is one thing my dad and me disagree on, he does it the same way as in the video, but I find it much easier to hold the cutters the other way around, with the flat/closed side of the blades going towards the end of the wire. To be honest, I couldnt get a reliable strip when I tried to hold them the way you're doing them in the video. Must be an old school thing.

I know this is gona hurt but... use them the other way around, the angle on the cutter is more acute. So its more of a flat side to pull the waste off. The way you are using them they have much more slope, so the cutters are trying to open as you pull.

I find it works better if the sidecutters are reversed and the flat side pushed the pvc insulation.

Easy . That’s the way I do it

Only when I have forgotten dropped my RS strippers from the scissor lift. Joking aside its not a good idea on 0.25mm Flex.

@@dogwalker666 if it’s that small i sometimes heat the wire with a soldering iron and pull the insulation of with my nail and index finger . Works a treat

@@andysims4906 Most modern sensor cables, Proximity switches, Photoelectric, Temperature, Pressure etc. Are all 0.25mm I use my Auto wire strippers then put on Ferrules, Had 10 proxies to fit and wire this morning that's 40 individual wires, All before production started at 07:30, All in a junction box inside the machine. Fun times lol.

The side cutters are 180° off of optimal because of the blade profile. Also, a razor knife is the real old school way to prep any wire even coax. And no, we don't nick the conductor

I've used this method for years, my employer bought me a set of wire strippers about 4 years ago when I started with them, they are still in the packet. No point in adding un necessary weight to my work bag.
