Blake understood. Treated it like a joke, but he understood. He saw the cracks in society, saw the little men in masks trying to hold it together...he saw the true face of the twentieth century and chose to become a reflection of it, a _parody_ of it. No one else saw the joke. That's why he was lonely...

The only real difference between comedian and the joker's character is how they decided to cope with the savage and unforgiving nature of humanity. If anything ; despite them both taking the black pill(realizing nothing matters in the big picture) ; comedian.... if anything would most likely bust a cap between joker's eyes the first chance he got ; and would amorally move on without even so much as a second thought to the matter ; or the consequences to his actions. I don't agree; I don't think Ozymandias pretended to be beat because he was smart enough to realize the Comedian had government support...I think the Comedian just plain beat his ass. The way he describes it dismissively as a crude but effective feint....it's the difference between being totally prepared artificially, and real life experience. Ozymandias has all this training, "the smartest man alive", to the point he thinks he's invincible - that in real life, not everything goes to plan. He didn't consider "what if Rorschach simply mailed a report about his findings to the press, before leaving for Antarctica?" - never occurred to him. Similarly, by the time they fought, the Comedian had been getting in fist fights on a weekly basis for something like three or four decades. While Ozymandias was just starting out in his career (not the peak condition we even saw by 1985). So for all his ranting about "I'm the best trained and smartest man alive", the Comedian's just plain real life experience proved a greater threat than he anticipated. That was always Ozy's weakness: not realizing that even the smartest man alive isn't all-knowing.

Maybe make a short combined one on Silk Spectre II and Nite Owl II? I mean, they're the surviving characters and the graphic novel at least implies that just as the Crimebusters were the "Silver Age" heroes in their universe, they'll restart a new generation of "Bronze Age" heroes. I guess a through-line could also be the fact that they're BOTH "Legacy characters", how comics do that with multiple characters taking up the same mantle. That she didn't want to be the new Silk Spectre, while in contrast he _politely asked_ the original Nite Owl to take up the title.

You skipped over one extra detail, it was a Psychic Squid. Not only did he dump a horrible mutant on Manhattan, but it was a side effect of transmitting horrible images into the minds survivors. I think that was what truly freaked out The Comedian. I mean, that squid isn't much different than dropping a bomb, but those psychic images might have been horrifying. Maybe that's how Adrian finally beat Edward. When it comes to physicality, the guy with the guns is going to win, but Adrian's title was "The World's Smartest Man," it makes sense that he'd win by attacking the Comedian's mind.

I understand Alan should have a say in his works, but the later works that expanded Watchmen were really good. I loved them. Now I guess its a personal choice as to which narrative we will follow.... I like to acknowledge both. Like I acknowledging Alan's narrative and how he wanted this to be a one-shot story that stands as an satire to superhero genre, a dark joke with hard-hitting punchline. For Alan, it was never about creating and expanding an universe, it was about making a point. And he made it well. Dragging this thing on doesn't make sense and could even ruin the purpose. But I also get the DC narrative and how they see that as wonderful universe left quite unexplored so it makes total sense to expand into it. And they have done a good job in it. For example Doomsday Clock #12 is my favorite finishing to any comic series. Now I can live with this. You know acknowledging Alan's narrative while also enjoying DC works
@maylabrown4584
@maylabrown4584 2 года назад
It's just a different Universe, Watchmen is Canon to DC while DC is not Canon to Watchmen. Once Doctor Manhattan came in contact with The DC Omniverse-Nexus (i.e Prime Earth) he himself was removed from the Original Watchmen Universe, allowing for The Watchmen Universe to be added into the Infinite Multiverse. This is what caused a variant of Doctor Manhattan, or Bruce Wayne to be specific, to be found by The Batman Who Laughs in The Dark Multiverse (The Negative Side of The Infinite Multiverse) where he ends up later becoming The Darkest Knight.

@@mushfiqurrahman1107 I know that, but I'm saying that in reality it's just another Universe, everything that happened in The Original Watchmen Universe did happen and nothing has changed.
