Tachyon Archery provided me with their new D97 handmade Flemish bow string equipped with rabbit fur silencers. I decided to use this string in an analysis of the effectiveness of bow string silencers. In this video, I will show the difference between shooting a silenced bow string vs an unsilenced bowstring. We will take a look at how much noise reduction we hear and see from an audio analysis viewpoint of the Tachyon D97 silenced bow string as compared to a a string without silencers.
In addition, we will take a look at some slow motion video footage of shots between the two different strings as well. The slow motion footage will show you just how dramatic the difference is when using silencers on your bow string.

Yea the audible difference is even more noticeable in person than what the mic can pick up as well.

Great video, I have been wondering about the sound my bow makes. The close up with the mic confirmed that it does in fact sound like a bow. Gonna drill out a large hole in my riser and pump it full of silicon and add some fur to my string. Also going to a thread nock instead of brass to further reduce vibrations. Thanks for the video.

Thanks @chadblechinger5746! The silencers do make quite a bit of difference.

You are going to drill a large hole in your riser???

There's also strips of fur/leather to put on the limbs where the string comes into contact. Takes out more of the snap and saves your limbs and string some more stress.

Yep that definitely helps as well. Thanks for pointing that out!

Although I subscribed back when you started building your Bingham recurve, RU-vid hasn't been putting your subsequent videos up on my laptop screen! That is, until this one, which is excellent (like all your others). Who knew that one of your two daughters handles a recurve with such confidence, authority, and good technique? Shouldn't she be part of more Boone Down South archery and bowhunting videos? Speaking of which, the fine Bingham recurve you built seems to have disappeared from the channel! Do you not shoot it or hunt with it, especially after all the time and effort you put into it? That's your choice, of course, but . . . Finally, I'm sure you heard that Bingham is no more because its owner retired. This might be a more or less insane idea, but I think you would do a GREAT job with this business, if you could purchase it from the owner. In my opinion, you have the right skills, personality, and experience do do an outstanding job with this fine, long-established enterprise. Best, Chris (in Maine)

Oh man. I didn't know Bingham's was out of business. That is so sad to hear. I looked at their catalogs since the time I was a kid until I finally built one. My daughter is pretty decent with it for sure. As far as me hunting with it, well I can shoot the recurves, but I have never felt skilled enough with one to try and take an animal with it. I have also had surgeries on both my shoulders at this point, and pulling the weight needed for regular practice was starting to impact my shoulder so I shoot lesser weight recurves now. I appreciate the vote of confidence. I do hope someone fills this void.

Different positions of the silencers cover Different tones. Wool is best and hard wearing
