Greetings Ern ! The COOL thing about installing beaver balls is this: NOTHING'S PERMANENT :-) That is, if you SCREW UP installing (inserting) ONE end of ONE beaver ball - PULL IT OUT & RE-DO IT ! TIP: MAKE SURE you push at least 1/4" of beaver ball strip (the leather portion) THROUGH the strings - that way it's sure to stay put as you begin to wrap :-) ... TIP: Be sure & measure the SAME distance down from each limb tip so that you're SURE each beaver ball is POSITIONED symmetrically, and ends up being the SAME LENGTH along the bowstring after it's wrapped. That's it ! Cheers, -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS

Greetings Kweli ! That beauty is my 1974 DARTON MAGNUM 49# (I pull it to 56#) HUNTING BOW ! In fact, my last 2 deer (I haven't gotten out much these past 5 seasons) were taken with this little wonder, and one of them was 36m from 15ft up in a tree stand, in an oak forest :-O... SADLY though, coming up on my 60th birthday, I'm having trouble shooting 58#, and instead have been using a 45# October Mountain Bows takedown longbow that I pull to about 52#, and I'm thinking of SELLING the Darton because I can't stand the thought of this bow sitting on my shelf; bows are WARRIORS and deserve to die in BATTLE - in HUNTING in my case... Glad you appreciate great bows ! Cheers, -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS

CHECK IT OUT: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l9tXOhAzk_s.html THIS is what I've been using on all MY bows for the past few years (since I made that "conventional" beaver balls videos and got ANNOYED with them NOT being ADJUSTABLE) :-) ... I'm new to traditional archery, so this may be a dumb question. When you remove the bowstring, do the tag ends slip out of the string? Thanks for posting the video. You make it look very easy.
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS 2 года назад
Greetings WJMelton ! YOU ASK INSIGHTFUL QUESTIONS ! QUESTION: "CAN 'beaver balls" COME OUT when you take the bowstring off?" ANSWER: ABSOLUTELY YES - you need to be CAREFUL ! AND if THAT ALONE wasn't ANNOYING ENOUGH, there's MORE: - beaver balls AREN'T "balls" at all, but more like OVALS; - beaver balls when WET shed SOME but not all water, and REALLY SLOW bowstrings down ! - beaver balls AREN'T ADJUSTABLE up & down the bowstring, so if you positioned them in a way that they actually NEGATIVELY INFLUENCE the bowstring motion, you need to UNSTRING the bow, PULL the beaver ball OUT, then meticulously SLIDE it around a little bit, HOPE you RE-WRAP it PRECISELY like you did the PREVIOUS time, RE-STRING the bow and SHOOT again. THIS IS WHY I SHOWED HOW TO MAKE ADJUSTABLE (and CHEAP!) bowstring vibration dampers in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l9tXOhAzk_s.html CHECK IT OUT ! Hi Ben & welcome to VOGTLAND OUTDOORS :-) GLAD you enjoyed THIS video about Beaver Balls... ... but I've grown convinced that Beaver Balls are inherently FLAWED, and that there ARE BETTER WAYS :-O I know I know - you're going to cry SACRILEGE ! BLASPHEMY !! BURN HIM !!! But it's TRUE ! HERE are at least 3 major flaws with BEAVER BALLS: FLAW 1: they FALL OFF when you take your string off and UN-TWIST IT :-O FLAW 2: they're NOT ADJUSTABLE; and FLAW 3: they're NOT (really) SYMMETRICAL in their loading (weighting) around the bowstring I've now CHANGED how I make string silencers, and now have a CHEAP, and MOVEABLE I invite you to watch THIS video showing how I NOW do "VOGTLAND ADJUSTABLE STRING SILENCERS: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l9tXOhAzk_s.html While you're watching, I'm actually going to INSTALL these very silences on one of my new bows TONIGHT ! Greetings & Merry Christmas Phantom Airsoft ! WHAT TYPE of string silencers (there's typically 2 of them) have you purchased? a) the FUR kind (like I'm installing in this video); OR b) the HARD RUBBER kind (those too are popular, but eventually break off); OR c) the LONG STRINGY RUBBER kind of "spider legs" types (easily attached with a single ZIP TIE, but also eventually come loose and break off) Let me know quick, and I'll be glad to help ! -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS

How did you determine where to start? Was that spot picked for any reason or just a randomly picked spot?
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS 4 года назад
John , NOT randomly, but NOT "laser precise" either. GOOD ADVICE: TOP of your beaver balls should be about a hand-span (from thumbtip to pinky tip of a completely-stretched-out hand) down from the limb tip itself. This will place the beaver balls at approximately the 1/4 length point on the bowstring, which (scientifically) is where the MAXIMUM WAVE AMPLITUDE of a standing wave is formed upon string release... Thanks ! -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS

Do they stay in place when you completely un-string the bow?
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS 2 года назад
Hi Jordan, You know, THIS particular video is among my MOST POPULAR, with over 13,000 view & counting... ... but I can't for the life of my understand why, because - like YOU observed - using this technique DOES work, but ONLY as long as you KEEP the bowstring UNDER TENSION - even "modest" tension. What do I MEAN by this? Simply this: - the beaver balls (really thin STRIPS of beaver skin with fir on them) STAY in place when the bow is STRUNG; AND - the beaver balls also STAY in place when you UNSTRING the bow, but use a STRING KEEPER to keep MINIMAL TENSION on the bowstring by strapping it "alongside" the bow. That said, the MOMENT you COMPLETELY remove the bowstring OFF the bow, the TWISTS can come out, and the beaver balls will simply FALL OFF :-O. I've long-since adopted using very very tiny ZIP TIES on each end of the beaver balls AFTER I've already threaded them through the bowstring. I clip the excess "strip" from the Zip Ties, so all you end up seeing is a little "button" on the ends, but at least the beaver balls REMAIN on the string even when it's folded up in a zippered pocket in my bow case. YOU are the FIRST person to actually SPEAK UP and NOTICE this "weakness" :-O O

Goodness ME I fell asleep twice reading your COMMENT ! - the FIRST time I fell asleep wondering WHY you thought to waste everyone's time with such a comment; - the SECOND time I fell asleep wondering WHY I even CARED about your comment. THEN I fell asleep a record THIRD time after watching your own 12-SECOND videos of: - a HELICOPTER... taking off - WOW (not); - a TREE... for 12 seconds - WOW - I don't know HOW you managed to capture SO MANY TREES in those 12 seconds; after all, they move SO FAST, you know?? - ANOTHER TREE - this time for a whopping 17 SECONDS - and your footage shot SO FAST that it looks like the trees AREN'T even MOVING - AMAZING ! What a GIFTED photographer you are, capturing TREES in MOTION so PERFECTLY ! Feel free to go waste pixels & minutes on someone else's RU-vid channel, as there simply any room on THIS channel for nasty little impotent trolls like yourself. What if your string isn't rolled
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS
@VOGTLANDOUTDOORS 3 года назад
Hi Orionas ! Your string MUST BE ROLLED, or it won't function properly ! If you have a bowstring on your bow and WITHOUT "rolls" (twists in the strands) it's already at the "perfect length"... IT'S NOT THE CORRECT LENGTH FOR YOUR BOW! In fact you're off by at least 1-2 INCHES TOO SHORT ! Let me explain.... Bowstrings are made of strands which MUST act TOGETHER, and the only/best way to do that is by having them TWISTED together so that the individual strands are LOCKED TOGTHER by being interwined - THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT! TYPICALLY a bowstring will need at least 8 to 10 full twists BEFORE you even put the string ON the bow, so that it loses at least 1 INCH of length - and sometimes 1 1/2 inches, depending on how many strands in the bow. There is LOTS OF CONFUSION on this topic, and bow manufacturers DON"T help because SOME of them list their bowstring's TRUE (ACTUAL) LENGTH, while OTHER manufacturers list their bowstring's "AMO length". Me? I ALWAYS take the bowstring out and STRING it on the bow as follows: - there are 2 loops, one SHOULD be SMALLER - it goes on the BOTTOM limb! - string the bottom limb, then gently pull the string up the back of the limbs until the top loop is resting somewhere against the back of the top limb... - if you string is STRAIGHT, then TWIST it 10 full turns. - check WHERE the top loop is touching against the back of the top limb; the correct UNSTRUNG positions should be 1" BELOW the BOTTOM of the GROOVE cut into the back of the limb. - If you're too SHORT, take 2 to 4 twists OUT (NO MORE) and re-test; - if you're too LONG, ADD 2 to 4 twists IN (NO MORE) and re_TEST; - ONCE you have the top loop position about 1" below the bottom of the groove on the top limb, you're ready to STRING the bow. R RESULT: you SHOULD now have a PERFECT Brace Height on your recurve bow. If TOO WIDE of a BRACE HEIGHT: - take the top loop off again and remove 2 full twists; - re-attach loop and re-test If TOO NARROW OF A BRACE HEIGHT: - take the top loop off again & ADD 2 full twists; - re-attach loop and re-test Hope this helps. -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS
