Very smart to explore the 2 on 1,it gives so many peoplea hard time because it's not so common in BJJ or even wrestling,especially in the West.

The Russian has been one of the best moves I used from wrestling when I transitioned to BJJ and no gi. Everytime someone gives you a lazy collar tie or they just love to hang on your neck and do nothing, the Russian works perfectly

Yes. If you follow wrestling (I do) you will see the 2 on 1 to single leg many, many times. It is a critical bread and butter move.

6 years of wrestling and 4 in BJJ and I have never seen these variations on the Russian 2 on 1. I would describe them as very advanced. There are simpler, more basic takedowns off the technique (usually the single leg is there for the taking). Having said that, Kumbarov has outstanding credentials and I am sure is an excellent wrestling coach. Roger is also one of the (if not the) greatest BJJ players ever (according to my old training partner who rolled with him). Renzo told me, many years ago, that Rickson was the best, but this was before Rogers' time. The Russian 2 on 1 is one of my favorite techniques, I just want to point out that the moves here are more advanced and you should be aware of the more basic, but extremely effective variations before you integrate these techniques into your takedown arsenal.

The first part of this series was excellent instruction on fundamental wrestling. I guess the reverse kimura is a more advanced, but most wrestlers have probably seen this before. Then, suddenly, the second part (when Lyubo talks about the stiff-arm in the gi) became super-advanced. Jump in with a grapevine hook + reverse head-and-arm control to establish the Merkel, and do an uchi-mata / sumi-gaeshi (or hikikomi gaeshi). I'm glad I watched all the way to the end!
@seanreed9472
@seanreed9472 2 года назад
JSL: Yes, these are extremely advanced variations on the technique. I wrestled for 6 years and my son is an accomplished high school wrestler, and I have never seen a takedown off a Russian 2 on 1 to a Kimura. My old training partner (Jay White) used a Kimura to takedown and submit an opponent in an MMA fight, but it was not set up with the Russian 2 on 1. I also follow Olympic wrestling and have not seen it. On the other hand, I have seen the 2 on 1 used for the single leg about a million times. The 2 on 1 is an absolutely fantastic technique, it gives you total control over your opponent. However, all my wrestling experience has been US based. It is very possible that this technique is used in Bulgaria, and Kumbarov is a 100% legit wrestling coach. Also, my old partner (Jay) who has tapped about a zillion black belts and is a multi PanAm and NAGA champion says that Roger is the best he ever rolled against.
@eugenymalo8704
@eugenymalo8704 4 месяца назад
I would imagine when you watch the Olympic you mostly watch the freestyle wrestling where 2 on 1 is not dominant but even in that style, there are wrestlers that use the 2 on 1 for the uchimata position quite successfully. You can even see the uchi-mata thrown done from 2 on 1 in folkstyle wrestling. You might want to check earn your gold medal, he does a great breakdown of 2 on 1 and uchimata used in the ncaa wrestling. Now when you go to greco roman wrestling they are really the expert of 2 on 1. One guy that is amazing at this is Ismael Borrero @@seanreed9472

There a lot of counters to the guillotine from 2 on 1. Some people will keep their head low when having the 2 on 1 so the opponent reaches from the neck. From there you have a duck under and an arm throw from fireman's position

Controlling your opponent is the number 1 purpose of the 2 on 1. It enables you to move him wherever you want, and thus secure the takedown. It is also a great self defense move.

would this defense also work against a thai clinch?
@warriorcollective
@warriorcollective 6 лет назад
It is a fair question but I am going to edge more towards answering No on this. It would be hard to strike from this position in Muay Thai and most of the takedowns etc you can hit from here would not be allowed either!
@MGRA1996
@MGRA1996 6 лет назад
Stuart Tomlinson I meant if its an mma match and the opponent uses a thai clinch by getting both of his hands behind your neck would this defense still work to free yourself from the clinch-hold?
@jchannel8583
@jchannel8583 6 лет назад
Yes, it would work. Also the duck under is another wrestling technique that is great for countering the thai clinch.
@THIS---GUY
@THIS---GUY 5 лет назад
@@MGRA1996 the wrist is too far hidden behind your head it would be hard to pull off clean. I'd say either pop one of their arms up and attack a duck under or as soon as they grab the clinch step in so you're chest to chest and grab a body lock look for a body lock throw or a leg sweep
@seanreed9472
@seanreed9472 2 года назад
@@MGRA1996 Yes, absolutely. The primary purpose of the 2 on 1 is to break the clinch and then control your opponent. If I have the 2 on 1 locked in properly it will be impossible for you to hit me. I had tremendous success with this technique when I was a doorman/bouncer. If you study Dumog you will also see that they us variations of this technique, and Dumog is 100% self defense, zero sport.
