As Eminem just released his new album The Death of Slim Shady, this year for hip hop has managed to get even more memorable as Em returns to his Slim Shady alter ego in a fashion like nobody expected...
I think the point of him sounding repetitive with the namedrops are part of the concept of why Shady is cringe. He says it himself when he raps that Slim has the mind of a 13 years old and still raps about Christopher reeves.
in reference to the "overly complicated bars" opinions, I feel like Em knows that there is a part of his fanbase that live for those bars and peeling back the layers, and picking up on all the subtle nods and references and double/triple/quadruple entendres and appreciating the skill it takes to make it all flow the way he does. He will even sometimes turn right around in the next line and break it down for those he knows wont catch it.
I honestly don't get this narrative about Eminem having to reclaim some lost mojo. Dude been amazing since he came on the scene. Monster with Rihanna, Love the way you lie, Beautiful, and The Darkness. This nigga been good forever.
