As a healthcare professional I can fully attest to the comments made about pharmaceutical companies having a huge hand in the Healthcare industry now. Its a very sad and frustrating thing to watch patients decline and with 2 page long lists of medications when I want to scream at them, "eat plants!" 😢
The medications actually ruin the gut and unfortunately many are unable to digest plants properly without having autoimmune symptoms. So people are different. Some are healed by removing plant fibers from their diet and eating meat until their guts can tolerate fibers again. There is no one size fits all when it comes to diet. Many Vegans (Michael Greger for example) have bloat and look like he has less Testosterone than my 7 yr old Daughter.
From what I've seen, they don't even want to talk about the possibility of changing their diet. No matter how many sources i want to give them, they never look at any of it
I was 48 years old 320 pounds, I would buy a quart of frozen custard (extra fatty ice cream) and eat on the ten mile drive home. Not surprisingly I also started to fall asleep at odd times like driving home after work. I suspect I was knocking on the door of diabetes. I couldn’t go for a mile walk without feeling exhausted and sitting down for a rest. I’m so glad I found this info out before something really bad happened.
It really works . A1C went from 11.7 to 5.9 in 4 months. Lost 44 lbs, all while recovering from a broken leg. Now I’ve added exercise to make sure I don’t ever go back.
I think it’s wonderful and brave of Eric to stand up for plant based. I imagine that he won’t be popular with the big Animal Agriculture lobbyists. If he were my local MP (I’m in the U.K.), he would for sure get my vote, purely for his integrity to do what is right, even if it is tough. Great video, thank you!! Edit: I would disagree with Eric about not contributing any blame to doctors. Doctors have a responsibility to keep up to date with the latest research, therefore if doctors are prescribing medicine over nutrition, then they are equally to blame (as big pharma), just lining their pockets.
"We're dying because we're slowly being murdered." That's the most enlightened thing I've ever heard from a politician, encapsulating in one statement the trap into which US consumers have been ensnared by corporate and government forces.
I met him once at my job and saw him And his book at a store. Wasn’t interested in it much back then. But I have to he is a pretty genuine person and his triumph on reversing his health condition is truly inspiring. Thanks for sharing and doing the interview.
Keto, “sounded fine, but what resonates more? Eat plants, fruits, vegetables, in their closest natural source-just feels true,” Eric Adams said. I had Dr. Greger’s “How Not to Die Cookbook,” on my kitchen shelf, but after considerable information absorption, I got sucked down the Keto rabbit hole and began practicing it Jan. 1. I lost weight. But why? Was it keto, or just the fasting and swearing off simple carbs? Last week, I was eating a piece of keto holy grail bacon, stopped, looked at it and thought, “WTF am I eating this for?” Keto might work, but to echo Mr. Adams, keto just feels false. At my age (64) I can’t afford to play Russian roulette with my health. Besides, I’ve vacuumed up gut biome info over the last week and am totally convinced about it’s importance and none of the gut biome researchers I’ve heard endorse eating lots of fat and meat. Veggies, probiotics, veggies, whole grains, veggies, fruit, veggies, nuts, and veggies are what they endorse.
Hi George, when I retired 12 years ago I was 40-50 overweight (from sitting at a computer for 25 years, 60 hours a week). I hired a cook/nutritionist and tried to eat 1200-1400 calories. Exercised like a madman…spinning 3 days a week, personal trainers. I had some success, but it was painful and not sustainable. After being pre-diabetic with some alarming bloodwork, a young nephrologist nudged me in the direction of Keto. For me, and I believe for many other obese people, abstinence from sugar/starch is the only thing that works from breaking the food addiction/focus. Important to note that food addiction shouldn’t be confused with gluttony! I have always been a modest eater. The key FOR ME was/is eating for hormonal health. If your hormones aren’t in balance, weight loss is impossible. Period. The hormonal changes that I experienced on LCHF/IF were profound. The bloodwork doesn’t lie!
@@snaroff007 - intermittent fasting will work for losing weight every time whatever you eat (as long as it's not only full fat full sugar custard ice-cream of course).
"Why didn't you... when you did your google search, why didn't you fall for something like the KETO diet, or something like that? How did you make that decision?" Brilliant Question. Seriously insightful. Thanks for that.
I had Covid in January. I’ve been plant based vegan since 2019. I actually didn’t believe I had it until I lost my taste and smell. I really just had a runny nose and took cold medicine. 14 days isolation was awful because I felt fine. So i exercised and worked from home and walked around my back yard for fresh air. My family stayed on the other side of the house until my quarantine was over. Veggie power! 🍏🍉🍇🍒🥭🍅🍆🥒🥬🥦
Such a great interview,. I'm new to plant based eating having started in mid February. I have lost 32 lbs and don't need to take my metformin anymore. On a side note I am always peeking over your shoulder to see what fruit and veg you have on the counter. I spied a Crenshaw melon which would be really too early for the Midwest.
He’s my mayor. 💜💗❤️💪🏻✨Have to get Eric Adams’ book!!! I hope to get involved in all ways in nyc. I’m hoping he will really promote plant based vegan in my city. I love what he’s doing in the schools and hope he speaks out for plant based. The truth will set us free. The more vegans in the public eye the better our planet will be. I m following all of the experts you mentioned for 2 years especially dr Gregor daily dozen. All the wonderful documentaries Cowspiracy, Seaspiracy,What the Health, Forks Over Knives I m planning on getting certification from Main Street Vegan Academy and T Collin Campbell certification from Columbia . In 2 hours the documentary MILK will air for the first time. (3pm est) Thank you for your videos. Im older and love seeing other fit vegans. 💜🙏🏻. If you come to nyc love to meet you!
Loving this content and this channel. As an ethical vegan first and WFPB dieter second, I wish these guys wouldn't conflate veganism with plant-based eating. No, it's not the end of the world. No, I don't cry myself to sleep at night over this. But language is powerful and it matters.
@@eileenmcgovern9193 a plant-based diet is what it sounds like - eliminating or reducing animal products, normally with health as the motivation. Veganism is an ethical philosophy and lifestyle motivated by compassion for non-human animals. Some practical examples of the difference is that a plant-based eater could visit a zoo where animals are exploited, or indulge in a cinnabon with egg and milk once in a while (as we've seen the plant chompers do on this channel), whereas a vegan wouldn't. It's now come out that Eric Adams eats fish occaisionally - someone eating a plant-based diet for health can justify this, but an ethical vegan would never.
I was a healthcare professional for many years and there was no serious effort to make these kinds of diets available. No education on Plant based...until I became a member of KP. They are urging patients to make the effort to eat Plant Based. My personal diabetes educator tells people: give the animals a break!
I wish I could do plant-based but I am allergic to most legumes, including soy. But I have eliminated sugar pretty much completely to help with insulin resistance and that has helped a lot. I've also increased my green vegetables and other veggies. But I still rely on good quality meats for protein.
Just saw this video. Wanted to share that I follow a vegan diet, but not WFPB. I got Covid in Nov. 2020 and it was a very mild case. However, here it is March 23rd 2022 and I still only have about 50% of my taste and smell back. Most of my co-workers who were obese , had much worse cases. I am of normal weight.
So glad you are doing well. I’m in nyc my son, husband and other family members had covid awful cases and I didn’t get it. My husband almost wound up in the hospital. He’s a doctor. I didn’t get it from him. We don’t know for sure but how come I didn’t get sick?
It’s true diet wasn’t publicly discussed very much during most of covid19 but every time we someone in the ICU we saw that they were usually morbidly obese.
how wonderful and amazing... what a beautiful man, what a beautiful interviewer, so fitting to such a beautiful "diet" and way of life... ( BTW!!! Now I know who you remind me of - and perhaps another reason I like you very much!! Larry David! You know him, you've seen his series "Curb Your Enthusiasm" right? It's a total genius, masterpiece of a series, you must watch it if you haven't!!! :) ♥ ! )
@@PlantChompers ♥ Very Happy to have made your day... I am so pleased he is one of your heros! ( you have great taste! ) I really enjoyed your videos... You have bright future ahead of you kid! :)
The last time I became vegan I put on more weight than Ive ever put on before in my life - I was huge so I feel a bit trapped here - my semi carnivore diet does seem to work somewhat - and all I have to do is ensure that I do an hour of walk and gym per day
Maybe you ate too many calorie dense foods? Such as processed grain, avacadoes, nuts and seeds. Not too mention the sugar and oils. Maybe carnivore works well for you because of the lack of sugar and processed grain? Just a thought.
There's a lot of vegan junk food. And it's lethal. Real, whole plants, unprocessed and you're ok. Cook actual meals. And if you're eating corpse flesh or calf milk, make it smaller, leaner portions. And ditch the soda entirely. And if you have food addiction or are an emotional eater there is therapy that works out there. It worked for my daughter. Good luck to anyone on the journey to better health whatever your path ♥️
I’ve been a vegetarian - no mammals, or birds - for decades, and I am very healthy. I do include some eggs, dairy and fish, but not a lot. When I look at vegans and, for instance Dr. McDougall, what I think is that they are not getting enough fat in their diet. McDougall in particular, and I think Dr. Bernard as well, Recommends as little fat as possible and they don’t necessarily like nuts or avocados or olive oil. I don’t think that is good for health. I think you need healthy fats and although I think you could do without dairy or fish, you still need to get fat from vegetable sources. And then, of course if you’re vegan, you also need to take your B12. What do you think of this?
A 'healthy diet', will create winners and losers in the food industry. Losers, I don't expect to take kindly to that position. I expect MUCH push back as the word gets out to the grassroots level, and then spreads. Good Luck to All.
I tried keto for two months, but was finally struck as Mr. Adams was. Despite it seeming to make sense, eating lots of fat, and generous animal protein just doesn’t feel right. I’m not going vegan, but Mediterranean.
@@Nicksonian i'm not following the fat intake part, i just eat as i wish, sometimes more sometimes less of it, while on keto, but no sugar, oil, and only 1 slice of bread. The sugar and the fruit makes you hungry
@@arncj18 Keto is all about cutting carbs-all carbs, not just simple carbs. If you cut carbs you only have two other calorie sources, fat and protein. To replace the carbs you must consume more fat, more protein, or both. If you don’t increase fat then it’s got to be protein, but what kind? I’m not going vegan, but I recognize that meat is associated with heart disease and shortened lifespan while plant protein is not. For keto followers, the issue with plant protein is that it comes packaged with carbohydrates. But I think the falsity of keto is branding all carbs as bad. Meat protein comes packaged with cholesterol and saturated fat. Keto makes very tenuous claims that those don’t matter, but I’m not betting my heart on it.
@@Nicksonian i was feeling great, while on meat and salad, turbo boosted with mayo, nuts, seeds so it is not boring. IFasting. That and coupled with walks in summer. 50g of carbs is allowed. Don't overdo the protein, 200g of chicken is enough a day. I went from 120kg to 100kg. 5kg was water weight i assume. I don't think eggs bacon is bad, got my grandpa who is 94, who didn't follow any diet. So there is a lot that is being pushed on vegan these days, i just take what seems logical to me, from both sides. I'm not full carnivore either. And some studies are being payed for... you know. It's all about controlling the population
Oh that Eric Adams fella. Tremendous transformation story but I can't help but think of the "Vegans for Police Brutality" moniker to sum up this guys perspective and history.
Isn't it great he can make his own health decisions the way he feels fit but when it comes to him being the mayor of New York he does not want you to make your own health decisions when it comes to vaccinations isn't that ironic.
( I am writing this in 2023 ) I admire his Health turnaround , But I have to say He is a lousy Mayor. I live in NYC and He is not a good Mayor. Sorry :( The crime wave is out of control and He and his DA have done nothing to stop it!
This should be a main slogan for Black Lives Matter. then All Lives Matter. but sadly Money Matters is the Rule Of Law. the question is how do we break in the ignorant masses who believe their doctor knows what he's doing?
This was like one of those infomercials that never get to the point. Thirty minutes and never said how he reversed his diabetes. It seems that either vegetarian or keto , or other diets work, but, only if you stick with them. The main point that he didn't get to was that its the processed carbs that spike your glucose, which spikes your insulin, which blocks your body from using body fat for fuel.your body just uses the carbs for fuel. Yes keto seems counterintuitive but if you look into it it makes more sense.point is carbs are the root of 2diabetes! Eliminate the processed carbs and whole grains which digest as glucose same as carbs and you can reverse the diabetes by lowering your blood sugar levels , which lowers your need for insuline. Real problem is that pharmaceutical won't let doctors tell their patients that diabetes CAN be reversed!!!!
A ketogenic diet doesn't cure diabetes, only controls it, by severely limiting carbs. With WFPB, you can actually cure diabetes, meaning you can eat carbs.
Congrats on your weight loss, Jonnie. 💪👏 Major respect. It's true, low carb and whole plant diets are equals for weight loss. Different people have lost 200 pounds and kept it off on both. But only one reverses heart disease. The other increases the risk.
@@PlantChompers The studies showing increased coronary heart disease risks are for people eating the SAD, including a lot of highly processed "vegetable" oils; not low carb healthy fat and non-processed oils and dairy/animal fats.
I lost 50 kgs (around 100lbs) with keto in 3 years. Yes, it worked, but I got high cholesterol afterwards. I still limit my carbs now, but do it plant-based, which restored me to healthy Cholesterol level. I’m grateful for it all.
