Hey it's Joe Best Here, thanks for this fun day being interviewed. Great to finally meet you and I had a blast! Just want to add to the viewers that all plant based diets are great for some one. These views are related to my journey as a Type 2 Diabetic and those whom I coach. Everyone has the perfect plant based diet for them. It's up to you to find it because only you will know what it is. Best of luck!

This was a good and fair summary of diets. I'm curious though, why above ground vegetables, and not things like carrots?

Thanks for this. Thanks for your honesty. I have done every diet under the sun. Low carb too. The low carb had good results but it is not sustainable long term for me. I came to plant based, little to no oil, WHOLE plant foods and such as the main staples of my diet. It is so EASY. It takes a little more time but it is the one I can stick to endlessly.

Just a point on gluten-free diets (my adult child is coeliac): a lot of GF processed food is extremely high in sugars and 'fast' carbs e.g cornflour, and contains a lot of additives of dubious healthfulness, such as xanthan gum (used to replace the gluten in bread and make the dough stretchy). So a standard GF diet is incredibly unhealthy. Its only benefit is that it does not trigger the devastating symptoms of coeliacs. My adult child eats a lot of rice as their main carb - they recommend getting a rice cooker if you're coeliac - and they have things like bento boxes for lunch instead of sandwiches.
@nycgingercat

This is helpful. May need to tweak my vegan diet so it's more whole foods rather than processed. Been on a vegan diet for two years and reversed some symptoms which was dramatic enough for me to continue Dr. Neil Bernard's 21 day challenge. Would like the blood sugar levels to go down though.
@burntherest9118
@burntherest9118 Год назад
Less carb/refined sugar-heavy foods would probably help with that, as our bodies breakdown most carbohydrates into sugars. Coconut sugar and agave tend to have a lower glycemic index and don’t spike blood sugar levels. And congrats on the health improvements! I’m glad you chose to continue with a plant based diet. ☺️

@@SkyRiver1 I’m a chick. But you really can’t escape sugar. At least not foods with naturally occurring sugar, such as fruits. But it would obviously be the best option to stay away from all other sugar, but that can be difficult for many. Start small first.

I gave up processed sugars and just started eating fruit instead. I buy frozen blueberries, let them thaw in a bowl and put on top of toast instead of sugar-based jams. Eating thawed blueberries on toast is way more delicious and is totally satisfying. Give up the processed sugars, and enjoy how sweet fruit is!

One caveat is that there is more and more junk food being pumped out now in vegan diets. I know some people who had high sugar. Not sure as to why, could he alcohol consumption perhaps, but they were also eating beyond/impossible like every day and had to go back to Whole Foods to bring it back down.

We certainly had similar experience trying each of those very diets and did plenty of research en route. Our issues are different but similar findings. I had hypoglycemia much of my life, likely may have been pre-diabetic. I still think concerns about post meal blood sugar is still misunderstood. It’s actually normal for there to be a spike. It’s just insulin doing it’s job. We started, left, then returned to Macrobiotic diet precisely bc its adjusted to each person’s needs ~ especially emphasizing regional, seasonal foods. I think whole grains and vegetables are the most balancing foods, but some people need to transition slowly. Overall interesting to see others have gone thru a similar dietary adventure!

Wow just now seeing Joe best on this channel after not seeing him around in many many years. I was watching certain vegan and raw foodists years ago. I remember eating a ton of fruit and really loving it having energy at some points and sometimes being very tired. I can relate to what Joe is talking about here. Oh my gosh yes I remember all this 30 bananas a day, raw till 4:00... But You got to have a lot of greens. I follow a lot of how Markus Rothkranz eats...

What took him 15 years to figure out and achieve, I did in 3 months loosing 40 lbs, reversing pre diabetes, high blood pressure and i did it eating meat, fish, eggs and low glycemic vegetables like brocolli and fruit like avocado with a ratio of 60/30/10 fat/protein/carbs. 2 years later im still maintaining my ideal weight and it sure the hell didnt include grain or processed garbage.

It's so wild I got caught up in the raw food lifestyle and although I was never 100% raw I did eat very high raw and I felt good for a good period of time although they were definite times where I would get tired after a big meal of fruit. In the vegan community years ago people were trying all kinds of things. I never went to the Woodstock fruit festival but I watched a ton of videos of people being there and I wanted to go. So many people there and they were living the high raw high fruit lifestyle. Many now have not stayed with that lifestyle or at least not completely. I agree with Joe that it's just not sustainable for everybody to eat a high raw food diet. Thanks for this video!

It depends on how insulin resistant you are. It can be hard to get over the innitial blood sugar highs. But if you are newly diabetic then its a good option. But longer term diabetics need to skip the starch and eat above ground vegetables.

When I go plant based my blood sugar drops! My carbability is not known to me yet (I have to experiment….) I don’t know how you can get all those 2500 calories as an Vegan - you probably exercise? If so, your muscles maybe contain very little fat and then you can tolerate more fast carbs (=your carbability is high?) Maybe your body’s ability to absorb nutrients is not optimal and that is the reason for needing so many calories?? I eat pulses and whole grains, fermented veggies and lots of raw/cooked veggies ….. very clean!! No manmade stuff (except tofu (made by me) and tempeh) (no soy or coconut yogurt!) I prefere a Macrobiotic approach to Veganism. It is so “clean” (no fake meat or cheese!!) I wish I could help - but the only thing I can say: watch Joe’s video again and start informing yourself more (Fork over - Knifes?)- be very patient and never give up finding a good solution for your health and well being takes time - every day. So make a good study strategy !!!🤞🤞 Read: The Blue Zones. Buttner (there is more to a good life than diet…) Check out Rich Roll - plantbased ultrarunner……. maybe he says something about calories…… weight maintenance??) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G5o4ym5in_w.htmlsi=k7aTsvp3HETRKwDb

I am 5 years T2D free, so long term it's improved my health exponentially. Science does not go against whole food plants. Science goes against meats and dairy. People are sick and dying from meat-related products, meat that are carcinogens. Drs tell you to eat fruits and veg for your health. Plants provide a lot of protein.

How you look has some bearing on metabolic health but not all. You just assume "smaller" body types are metabolically healthy, but often times what they put in their bodies is mainly processed meats and other cancer causing foods and chemicals. Bet their blood panels wouldn't measure up to these people either.
