This is Dudsbury Iron Age Hill fort. It is a stone's throw away from where I live but I didn't know of its existence, having always thought that a particular country pathway was private and not for public use. Until my sister one day found it. It's certainly been pleasurable getting to know our local areas more.🕵️♂️
Dudsbury Camp is one of a series of Hill forts along the Stour Valley, built around 2,500 years ago by people of the Durotriges tribe. The Fort was a place of safety and a centre for markets and tribal gatherings. People lived mainly by farming and there were fields, woods and farms in the countryside around. 🏞
Since 1931 it has been a Girl Guide camp for regularly meetings and camping. 🏕
