In 2007, the death of police officer Filippo Raciti during the Catania-Palermo derby devastated the world of Italian organised tifo. A mandatory ‘supporter ID’ and stringent regulations caused mass walk-outs and brought historical ultras groups to their knees. Among them was ‘Ultras Trieste’, the gang of ‘fedelissimi’ that had pushed Triestina Calcio through decades at or near the top of the Italian football pyramid.
When the Curva Furlan group was born from its ashes, they faced challenges on all sides. The club was living its worst moment since 1918: in the space of a few years, Triestina went bankrupt twice, was relegated four times and had at least 6 different owners. They dropped down all the way to non-league football, playing in a stadium seating up to 38.000 with just over a few hundred in attendance. This documentary, shot in 2015, highlights the struggle for maintaining endangered traditions, a conflict for coherence and acceptance and speaks of the many ways organised support links to the city and its community much more than it will ever be tied to results on the pitch.
