not true the mazda6 has always been a sporty drivers car. The only reason this has less power is to meet govt. CAFE standards probably....smh. the last generation Mazda 6 had 270 horsepower
What? The mazda is tuned for economy foremost, before performance or top speed or anything else.Continental cars HAVE to be tuned for performance, because of the autobahn and the fact that some roads on the autobahn are curved.FYI:Performance doesn't just mean 0-100/0-60.
Andrew Ahn Lol what, mazda will forever be tuned for economy, thats their value proposition. Not performance. They handle decently, but they won't be able to corner at 200km/hr on a highway like a continental car.I personally have a mazda, so I know what a mazda is capable of.I never said mazda was a bad car, but at that price range, its meant to compete with the likes of the camry/accord/passat.You sound like a bigot.
I have the 2015 Mazda 6 GT as well (A/T), and I would say from feel that the top torque band is around 2000-3500 RPM. I love it because it pulls so well, without having to rev the hell out of the engine like the 4-cyl Accords.
My question is, why are you short shifting it at 4-5000rpm? The point of the manual shift mode (when accelerating at full ability) is to time your shifts and let the engine reach near redline (without hitting the limiter) and shift to the next gear...short shifting won't get you faster acceleration, but slower.
Lol....everybody says they have a faster car....yet no one beats me from the line after the light changes even with their turbos and v6s ;) the car is peppy and nimble, looks gorgeous, and I'm happy. Honestly, I don't care about 0 to 60, I just care about accelerating fast enough to pass everyone going mad slow on back roads because their car can't handle a curve like a Mazda.
there are people who prefer something more economical than speed. my bro have a 2016 mazda6 and it drives good. it fit in between economy and speed very well.
Traction control off, sport mode, brake torque and bring revs to about 3000 rpm. You will light them up and hit 60 in about 7 seconds. I am at sea level, but have done it over and over.
Hey there Dave. I always enjoy your videos. And I'm very interested in the Mazda6. You went the fastest without traction control, and simply flooring it while leaving the shifting all to the transmission itself. During that run, you said that it was shifting at 6000 rpm's. All the runs after that, you shifted at 4000 and 5000. Maybe the car needs to shift higher. It is a Mazda... ZOOM ZOOM!
Hey Everyman Driver could you please do a review and 0-60 time with the Mercedes Benz SLK200. That'd be awesome! Another great video by the way, I really like how you are actually listening to people's requests and changing some things up. Great job!
Dave Erickson Everyman Driver Car Reviews Thanks for your review. I also watched your review of the 2013 Honda Accord Sport earlier. As you may well know, the 2016 Mazda 6 is hitting dealers right now and Mazda has really spruced up the interior. I've been debating between the 4cylinder 2016 Mazda 6 Sport and 4cylinder 2015 Honda Accord Sport. I'm an avid auto enthusiast and have owned German cars. Which one of the two mentioned here to you provided more driving pleasure, everything from the engine to transmission (CVT vs 6sp AT) to crisper steering feel? I'm hoping for more than a *you can't go wrong with either one* response :) Thanks for your help!
every idiot complaining about lack of power, the new mazda 6 base costs 21k, do you realize that if they add more power, the price will increase too? might as well get a freaking mustang v6 if power is what you want, people buy this car because of the looks and technology that comes with such price, if you want both luxury and power, then you have to go bmw or mercedes, aint gonna happen kids
I actually own a 2014 that 6 i GT that I purchased 2 months ago. I have a sport button on my car. When I put in in sport and manually shift it, the engine seems much stronger. I am in the DC area which is at sea level I believe.
Adding some variety to your 0-60 runs was definitely a step forward! I was always wondering why do you do these in the first place if you're on an automatic anyway. I mean you just floor the pedal and wait, rinse and repeat 3 times, that's it. But this one I enjoyed watching. Interesting to see how much the traction control reduces acceleration.
I’ve owned a lot of vehicles and the Mazda 6 is my favourite so far. I had a 2015 Acura ILX before that might be the worst ride quality of any new vehicle I’ve had. I didn’t really notice it till owning it for a bit because I test drove it on snowy bumpy roads and thought that’s why the ride was so bad. The ILX was a 2.0 litre and the Mazda 2.4 litre gets better gas mileage too
Can you do the same thing but with the 155hp Mazda3? Yes the 155hp not the 184hp. I'm getting the iGT Mazda3 soon and I wanna know what kinda numbers it gets.
From the camera angles, it seemed like the roads are kind of sloping upwards or downwards depending on which direction you are headed to. Do you think that may affect the 0-60 performance because u dont seem to go on the same direction with all your trials Dave? But nevertheless i always liked your reviews. Short but nails it.
9+ seconds? That doesn't seem right at all. My 2008 Mazda6 (2.3L with 160 horsepower) is somewhere around 7.8-7.9 seconds for the same 0-60 run. My 2010 Mazda3s (with the 2.5L in it) is around 7.5 seconds for the 0-60 run. The official specs for the 2015 Mazda6 don't say the 0-60 run is anywhere near 9 seconds either. How hard were you pushing it??
I'm just sold on all the options of driving lol. Haven't looked at a lot of reviews yet between this and the fusion (set on both) but if this is a mazda only thing, does it harm the vehicle? I never had a manual, so something like this seems like a godsend, in case I want to try it out over time before committing to a manual on the next buy.
Mazda is getting better and better with the interior and exterior each time new models come out, it's bummer Mazda2's interior is actually better than Mazda6. Trust me I've already went down for a test drive
It's obvious this company can't afford to develop engines since they left Ford. 8.4-9.2 seconds is a dog by any name. They have wonderful exterior design and the inside is always excellent (I owned a 929 and it was excellent). With the Koreans using turbocharged engines, it's time for the Mazda to get a good designer to do the same for them like Ford.
I drove the Mazda6 before I bought the Optima turbo, and the Mazda is a dog. To update the situation, Mazda is developing a two litre turbo engine for use by the 6 and several other models. They don't have enough engine development because they don't have the cash flow. Nonetheless, I trust Mazda will eventually get there.
Beautiful car that should have had a Mazda MZI version of the current Ford Mustang v6.....Could have literally been the perfect car and by the time they do put more power the car, it will wind up being redesigned so that's a shame.. last gen had 270 Hp.
They won't do it at all. Ford and Mazda were divorced after the 2 gen 6 was completed. They no longer share engineering or parts. There may be some bits leftover from the Ford days, but they are fewer and fewer with each year.
holy crap, 9 seconds?! there are SUV's that do better than that! what the hell i was pretty psyched about this car but not so much anymore. why isnt there a turbo? or a six cylinder? unbelievable.
Interesting. Car and Driver has tested this car, 2014 and just tested the 2016 model year. Both times they achieved 7 seconds flat 0-60 times. I wonder what their driver is doing different.
I was sold on the Mazda 6 before, but now, not so much. Why is this so unbelievably slow? 9 seconds to get to 60?! In a Mazda 6?! Either you're not doing it right or they seriously, seriously, seriously murdered this car in the past decade. A 2005 Mazda 6 should not be faster than a 2015... but it is. One note about the video, I'd personally love to see an edit somewhere with just the car's engine note. If a car doesn't sound at least somewhat sexy there's no point in buying said car, but finding those videos is pretty difficult
why are you talking about 1 touch power windows all around not a big deal especially since its 2014 my moms 2003 Infiniti has all four one touch windows
Were upgrading this week to a newer model Infiniti but anyways my point was it IS a old car i know that but if her 03 Infiniti Has 4 one touch windows its should be no surprise that the new mazda has it too. I never claimed it to be anything that special so relax. I know how old it is.
what I am saying is no one cares about window buttons being automatic or not. When it comes to pricing the m6 offers a hell of a lot more than any other car on the market within its price range.
I test drove the Mazda 6. Yes, it was peppy. Yes, it handled well. But it had a rough ride. When I got out of it, I had that tired, achy, buzzy feeling you have when you get off of a roller coaster. And what none of these reviewers are saying is that the armrests are useless. They are too low and don't go far enough back to put your elbow on them. (The console is too low, too.) The other thing is, toward the end of the test drive, the inside of the car smelled like engine oil. After driving several mid-size sedans, I came to the conclusion that none of them were worth the money. Each one had something that sucked so bad that I didn't want the car- except the Hyundai Sonata. But the Sonata, well-equipped, is a bit pricey. So I drove the smaller Elantra. The Elantra Sport has it all- lots of room, plenty of acceleration, comfortable ride, and plenty of features. And they have nice rebates right now, maybe because they are making room for the 2016's which don't look as good, in my opinion. The only reason I didn't buy one that day is because the dealer was shady.
Is it just me or is that going up a hill for all the odd runs and down the hill for the even runs...weird how there is a second difference between those.
Everyman Driver Car Reviews I am in no way trying to be mean in any way but I just have to say it... Seriously the comments just get more lame as I go down the list lol. THIS IS NOT A RACE CAR. The Mazda 6 is the car to buy right now hands down flat out. I have never even owned a Mazda before so think about that. Consumer reports buzzed about this car so hard and in fact the 2016 Mazda Miata is on the front page of the issue stating the car is worth waiting for. Consumer reports checks this car the Mazda 6 as a great buy best bang for your buck. This car from a-z has what every day drivers need and that is practicality with style. If you want speed go buy a faster car but in the end your paying for speed and your paying more in the long run with lack luster performance over all. You can race your car to work and pretty much just waste your time but... If you want something that wont burn a hole in your pocket and will lighten your burden and is forgiving overall buy a car with a nice price tag with awesome written all over it. I have spent a lot of time looking a this car and reading watching it in action once again it has buy me all over it and you know what! I am going to buy it.
Diesel that's why. Most likely higher torque which helps push the car to 60 faster. Diesel can be faster than similar gas models. Top speed is different. But 0-60. Diesels are quick
Why are you straight lining this soccer moms car ? Advice don't waste your time. Next time grab the Japanese 2014 Mazda 3 , 2.5 Skyactiv. Take out the spare tire and tire iron, leave about quarter gas.. Early morning on a crispy cool day.. Do your test then.. I am getting average around 6 seconds. In Sport mode.. The 6 is not a sports car cimpared to its light and more powerful and agile little brother the 2014 mazda 3. Let's be honest Mazda 6 is a familly sedan.
Everyone NEEDS to read the 2015 JD Power Vehicle Quality Study results. Hyundai and KIA came #1 and #2 in the rankings and are the most reliable brands in the auto industry. Mazda came far below the industrial average, ranking 25th out of 34 car brands.
Korean Pride Your analysis of the 2015 Mazda is in error please immediately rethink your source. JD Powell's report is just. a "rating based on true and erroneous information about a GIVEN MANUFACTURER NOT a MODEL . If you want to get a true analysis on the overall quality of a vehicle try consumer reports , Edmunds or Kelley Blue Book but I would most depend upon Consumer Reports they are the four most reliable source on the overall quality of a vehicle Unlike JD Powell's report , Consumer Report has a test facility to test all production vehicles for consumers to evaluate based upon their un-biased in house testing of all production vehicles both new and used . They have their own test track to evaluate and conduct an analysis on vehicles from top to bottom with out any manufacturer bias , They evaluate a vehicle's performance economy, quality, components,(Engine, transmission, etc.. ) both the exterior and interior , convenience items , , electrical engineering fit and finish etc.... In other words the whole vehicle !! Plus they also give consumers advice and information on which cars are going to be reliable and which cars to avoid based on real life wear and tear over time .!!! JD Powell doesn't , again they just "rate" vehicles.
The 2015 Mazda 6 is a huge disappointment. Ugly retro styling and numb handling. I would much rather buy the 2015 Hyundai Sonata which has a more updated modern design and superior handling (the 2015 Hyundai's have greatly improved handling compared to pre-2015 Hyundai's). Or, if I had the extra money, I would get a 2015 Volkswagen Passat for class.
UltimateDriver The most reliable sedans of 2015/2016: 1. 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2. 2015 KIA Optima 3. 2015 Toyota Camry 4. 2015 Volkswagen Passat 5. 2015 Ford Fusion
+kray97 There is an exception, the dealer I bought my 2016 gave me a LIFETIME powertrain warranty as long as I own the car. Or as long as their in business.. lol
