This isn't boxing, and though increased strength is helpful, so is decreased weight. He is an experienced ex champ, so if you're looking for inequality here you could reasonably argue she is out-ranked.
Some clips were prob edited in (during a practise run) during the timed run to make it better footage/viewing for us, to show the tricks on jumps you may not see in POV. Doubt they were doing tricks on jumps during a timed run..👍
Guys. In clips like this you take some practice runs, which are filmed, then you take the timed run. Maybe couple more takes on jumps etc. Then you mix them up. They don't have 37 cameras and cameramen for the whole course. That is the secret of Neil's gloves. Now for the result, this shows that Neil is still fast as hell.

Should've had a 3rd more "average" skilled rider do the run too so we could actually get a comparison of how fast they are. When I read the title of the video I thought that's what it was going to be. Cool video, but that would have been great to add.
yeah i agree ,,, lets see exactly that ,,,, a pro racer and someone from the public that would be thought of as a good rider ( above average) by most people but represent someone that we all ride with often .... thatd be really interesting
Maybe even just 10 times from randoms who were on the hill that day. See what kind of times normal Bikepark goers and locals can do and then compare to tahnee and Niel
Men's and Women's DH are different pairs of shoes. Just watch the time differences in one of the races. Mostly the winning women's time doesn't even crack the top twenty men's. It's an apples to oranges comparison.
Neil, part time and ex-pro racer, was way faster than the female winner Cécile Ravanel in Finale Ligure in last year's EWS in the officially-timed race.
My son and I like watching these videos and saying "Dead!" whenever we see them ride a feature that would put us in hospital or a body bag :-D The skills and bike handling of the pro men and women are just mind blowing.
tbf, instead of watching a full race run in pov, i think they edited in better clips of features (during practise run) and to emphasise the skills you can't see in pov with Martyns commentary. just to make it look better for us. 👍
@@ribinrobin8925 yea man, big respect to women pros but this kinda shows how fast and how incredibly competitive male dh is at the highest level. Neils faster than a pro 7x world champion...woman but yet he made it to top ten in mens world dh a couple of times. I mean that's incredible and hes been retired from racing for 11yrs. So idk, call me sexist but I think us guys may have it a little harder (in dh racing at pro level) hahaha
good job answering the question in the title. I truly learned how fast pro riders are. Honestly, without this video I never would have known the answer was, pretty quick.
Some of you cats need to relax! Geez. Of what consequence is it if they took clips from multiple runs? I clicked the video to watch two riders I admire haul ass, not pick apart the intentions of the editing staff. But I digress. It's an amazing day and cheers to all!
It's funny cause I didn't notice it at first since I was too busy checking out the lines they are taking. But it was funny to see Neil get serious and have to take the gloves off a few times 😅
It was great to see Neil race and man was he fast! He looked great. Tahnee might not be so easy to beat next time though, just off recovery she was amazing to watch.
Very cool video, the images and riding pace are awesome. Besides, Neil has crazy skills: he can even take the gloves off and put them on again while riding and beating the clock XD

Damn. Neil is an absolute monster. When he shredded everything, he reminded me the DH run of Sam Hill against Steve Peat. Even steep grades and scary gaps is not enough to stop them. I wont be much surprised if i see them hover around everything
I'd prefer to have seen predominantly body cam footage mixed with any of the live footage for the timed run. As it is I feel like I'm watching a pushy showcase for the sponsors. Keep it real guys 🤙 Aside from that one criticism this fantastic content as usual. ❤

Tahnee is a monster on the track.... so much talent in mtb these days.... womens xc over the last few years has been epic...any one of 15 riders can win on any given day which makes for exciting racing ...
Now. Was there an actual race? Because there is POV footage of them riding, but in the 3rd person shots, they have no gopros on them. Just filmed multiple times to get better shots, while the POV was the actual race run? (I hope)
Neil was impressive! Would be really cool to see them run this again after Tahn’ee gets an actually WC Race or two back (w)in!! Neil should race Danny Hart next. Also Be fun to watch him race Ben Cathro as well! Awesome video as always! 🔥👊🏼
I had fun watching both ride... I don't know why people are dissin' Neil for having a fun competitive race with her, considering she just recovered and put on a great time I though that was impressive... People also forget Neils not the same racer with how many accidents that guys been through... People need to learn to chill...
Would love to see someone like fin Iles (probably spelt wrong please correct me) or Loic bruni do this or maybe see how good slopestyle riders transfer to dh like Matt Jones or Sam pilgrim
Rick Lever representation from different demographics encourages a more diverse spread of riders. Plenty of awesome lady riders out there to choose from too. Not sure what happened to Jess but Katherine also left GCN around the same time as her and I read things suggesting the company wasn’t a great work place for them.
Great content and awesome riding from both but honest feedback... episodes like this could be more serious. No slo-mo in replays in a timed run, just watch the riding and add in an actual comment which sections were actually good and which weren't. I think Ben Cathro got this format pretty perfectly. This reminds me a bit of Top Gear-style journalism, too much about the visuals and not enough about the actual subject
A bit of constructive criticism: when on the bike, please don't use music or narrating. The perfect example is the video with Sam Hill vs the atv. Please make this much needed change!
The world cup men's are stupidly quick. I got to see Jared Graves ride in Australia up against the leading pro rider back in the day... Jared made the pro riders look like beginners.😆😆
Great footage. Tahnee's riding is pure art. So clean and precise. Neil looked like he was working harder and just pushing the the nose down off every drop, trying to get set up as quickly as possible for the next corner. Both great riders. Obviously we know to consider they would not be racing in the same class professionally, but still cool to watch if you take it for what it is.
Ok. This video was a test to see if we, your avid fans and viewers, are paying attention. Don't get me wrong, they both rode beautifully and those bikes are SWEEET! But, be real, Neil was staying low and keeping speed the whole way. Tahnee was catching air and having a blast the whole way down. If she had stayed low and wasn't scrubbing speed on every jump, she would have smoked him. Neil is great. I wish I was riding as well as he does, but she was just having a blast, full style points for fun.
How the actual f*ck did a current downhill racer lose to a guy who got given a bike he hadn’t tried before and had retired from down hill racing ELEVEN years ago
