The Bible presents fasting as something that is good, profitable, and beneficial. The book of Acts records believers fasting before they made important decisions (Acts 13:2; 14:23). Fasting and prayer are often linked together (Luke 2:37; 5:33). Too often, the focus of fasting is on the lack of food. Instead, the purpose of fasting should be to take your eyes off the things of this world to focus completely on God. Fasting is a way to demonstrate to God, and to ourselves, that we are serious about our relationship with Him. Fasting helps us gain a new perspective and a renewed reliance upon God. Although fasting in Scripture is almost always a fasting from food, there are other ways to fast. Anything given up temporarily in order to focus all our attention on God can be considered a fast (1 Corinthians 7:1-5). Fasting should be limited to a set time, especially when fasting from food. Extended periods of time without eating can be harmful to the body. Fasting is not intended to punish the flesh, but to redirect attention to God. Fasting should not be considered a “dieting method” either. The purpose of a biblical fast is not to lose weight, but rather to gain deeper fellowship with God. Anyone can fast, but some may not be able to fast from food (diabetics, for example). Everyone can temporarily give up something in order to draw closer to God. By taking our eyes off the things of this world, we can more successfully turn our attention to Christ. Fasting is not a way to get God to do what we want. Fasting changes us, not God. Fasting is not a way to appear more spiritual than others. Fasting is to be done in a spirit of humility and a joyful attitude. Matthew 6:16-18 declares, “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

I've never prepared for any fast, I just did it. Fasting is magical. I have quite the love affair with alcohol but a long term fast levitates the brain in a completely different way. Anyone who's lived the 3x meals + snacks life style along with a sedentary lifestyle who has also lived the fasting life with maximum output exercise can tell you what the average human experience feels like and what it is supposed to feel like. I have IBS and realized my gut heals when i fast, when i only drink tea and water. Please tell me, do you constantly eat once each other day? Or only for several weeks? When u don't eat once every other day, do you have one single meal a day? What do you eat with your meal: proteins, leafy greens, legumes or healthy carbs? I would love to eat as rarely as possible, as long as i keep my health/energy level. I have also been thinking of having an entire day of fasting once or twice a week. Two days in a row only with tea/water would be better than 2 separate days within a week?
@makokx7063
@makokx7063 3 месяца назад
@@janka482 Thanks for the questions. Sorry to hear about the IBS, I had a bout myself when I was younger. It's a nightmare scheduling your life around being near a bathroom. I usually just do one meal a day. Maybe 2-3x a month I'll go a couple days. I get a little sick if I eat soon after waking up and I'm never hungry for lunch so 90% of the time I only eat 1 meal and nothing else, just water, too. I do on occasion have a coffee with some milk and the milk would of course break the fasting effect. Also I'm not religious about it. If I go to a BBQ in the afternoon I will eat something. I'll also grab a drink with friends at night well after I had my meal. It's my standard routine but I have no problems enjoying special occasions. I'd say most of my food is just animal products and veggies. I don't keep track of the nutrition, just make what I want. I'll usually have a nice chunk of meat with some kind of sauce. A nice chicken thigh with steamed broccoli + carrots, maybe some tomatoes covered in a sauce (butter, garlic, onions, cream, chicken stock) kind of deal. Maybe some baked fish with lemon and asparagus and a salad. I've never had an attachment to carbs really. Bread and pasta don't have any taste to me and are just vehicles for the foods that actually taste good so I just eat those foods on their own. I do however have the occasional cheeseburger or pizza, again, I'm not religious about it. For me energy is never a problem. The only time things get hard is if I go on vacation and regularly eat bad, after a few days of that I can feel my mood swing, brain fog, energy flux etc. I'd say most important thing is just to experiment and find out what works for you. I have a great friend who eats like a squirrel. Every hour he's nibbling on something and he seems to be doing just fine. The OMAD and low carb life just fits for me although I would HIGHLY suggest to anyone who hasn't to try it at least once in their lives. Low Carb, Good Exercise, OMAD, 3 month. Anyone with any conditions though, including IBS should likely consult with someone beforehand. 99% likely going to be ok but the body is a complicated machine. Best of luck!

Also, I remember now that I met a man who is probably in his 60s, who is a restaurant owner/manager and seems very energetic, and every day he only eats from noon to 8 pm so that would be an 8:16 fast , and he was recommending it. She is absolutely right saying it’s not optional. The best part is you don’t think about food all the time when even you are not hungry, when I am not fasting I can see that when I make delicious food for my family I eat a lot of times with them in a day, and I want to keep eating ( I am not fat mind you ) it’s worth to do it, for your focus, body, mind, it changes everything, it’s like you’re a totally different person when you’re fasting.

Don’t need HRT when you eat right and fast. You have to eat enough fat and low enough carbs. The only issue I had was hot flashes, and those went away when I lowered my carbs. Dr. Elizabeth Bright started focusing specifically on menopausal women when she learned what people were saying about menopause and how horrible it is. It’s because our bodies are screwed up to begin with. Menopause is just supposed to be a loss of menses, not all these ridiculous side effects.

The main reason for fasting is spiritual, the healthy part comes after as a bonus. It is not just food, also how we beehive and what we do etc. As Orthodox Christians we should fast two times in a year for about 40 days (just before Christmas and before Easter). In addition we fast few times more in a year for period of time b/w one and two weeks and plus every Wednesday and Friday. Some of us try to do it others find reason no to do it and even to discourage us! Dr. Mindy just gave us one more reason why everyone should fast!

Postmenopausal women needs to pay attention to progesterone producing carbs. We are in better position with fasting because most of our hormons are produced by adrenals, pituitary and skin, but this why we need to pay attention to sweet potatoes, potatoes, chocolate. I fast 24 hrs every week. I don't go an keto kick. I eat cabs (no junk or processed). I bake my own rye bread. Eat a small piece with eggs. Fasting schedule is : Monday 24 hrs to Tuesday morning, Wed, Thursday and Fri 17 hrs. Sat and Sunday (no fasting)13-15 hrs. I do 72-96 hrs water fast every 3 months.

I was put on anti depressants when all i needed was progesterone. Thankfully i have a friend who told me to get my hormones checked :) Psychiatrists are killing women and therapists aren't really helping all that much... not compared to the help you get from balancing your hormones.

I just got this book last night! I can’t wait to read and learn how to fast. For success. I did a successful 38 hour fast the other day. I felt amazing the next morning. I hope others get the benefits of this important implement into our lives. I shall be doing this more and more until I could do a 72 hr fast. Thank you so very much Mindy.

I watched video at 11am. The most important thing for me was the effects of fasting on the brain brain. I'm new to fasting. I've only done 17hr., fr 8pm to 1pm so far.

I have a feeling my intermittent fasting is very different than most people. I am usually awake 4h30am every morning so I eat at 4h45am and have a lot to eat but mostly protein like eggs, anchovies, Kimchi, Natto. I like to get my fermented foods out of the way first thing before I change my mind. I stop eating at 2pm in the afternoon. Most people are eating until 6pm or 7pm but than no food until noon. Just because people change their hours of fasting doesn't mean it's wrong.

Julie Don't eat within the first 2hrs minimum of waking up, the longer the better. You can close your eating window to 6hrs

The IF fasting gurus, including Dr. Mindy, are now shifting to saying eat an early breakfast & cut off your eating earlier in the day.

In Ramadan you can’t drink a single drop of water during fasting and that cause dehydration and kidney damage!

Thank you for having Dr Mindi. She’s truly a gem to us females. This is the best I’ve heard her explain a woman’s cycle, how our hormones changes and how we should adapt our fasting according to the way our hormones changes. Amazing learning experience ❤❤
