THIS VIDEO WAS RECORDED IN EARLY 2020 AND DOES NOT REFLECT THE CURRENT RATES OR MY CURRENT OPINIONS ON AMAZON. I LEFT IT UP BECAUSE IT DOES GIVE A PRETTY GOOD HISTORY OF PRIME VIDEO DIRECT UP TO 2020.
Glad to see you kept this video up! Going through your playlist to take notes and optimize our strategy. To those of you who are just now tuning in, I recommend watching all episodes from beginning to end and taking notes. This is an incredible channel, and it'll only serve you to know the history of this rapidly changing market.
This is awesome! Im still at the start of things with spending the last 3 years on how to write/develop a story, and this month finally working with a production studio to make my first short film! Thanks Reddit for the suggestion

how does amazon pay people, do they give you a bit of the persons subscription money for watching your video or something? or is there adds like youtube?
the pay per hour streamed. between 1 and 12 cents an hour. I've done a bunch of videos talking about it. ru-vid.com/group/PLDUasQIW9a2aAa3QleieGYlguNJoMFvnd
thank you,. FYI this was shot over a year ago. Things have changed a bit. Rates have dropped, and you can no longer submit documentaries or shorts. I have a playlist that has my newer amazon videos on it if you're interested. ru-vid.com/group/PLDUasQIW9a2aAa3QleieGYlguNJoMFvnd
Love the storytelling and context, Horton. I’ve been on a very similar trajectory with publishing my own books. I’ve been diving into #BringYourWorth multimedia content in the same way 🏊🏽♀️ Thanks for the wisdom!
That’s super disappointing that they don’t accept shorts or documentaries anymore. Does this mean you can upload them only under ‘rent and buy’ and not ‘prime’? or does it mean that you can’t upload them at all?
This is a very old video. for a while docuemntaries were not being allowed up at all. They've since changed that. Now you can put them up for rental and purchase, just not prime. In fact prime video direct doesn't allow inviduals to submit anything to prime for free anymore. If you do well enough on rental, they may make prime available. But at least initially you can't do it free with prime. At least not on your own. I don't know anything about shorts really.
I made Day66 for approx £1500 - was going to stick on RU-vid but considering other options and seriously considering Amazon. Any tips/advice? Do you have to sort subtitles?
I sent an e-mail to Amazon to get permission to use "Prime Video" on my movie poster to announce that my film is streaming on Amazon. They say it can take up to 10 business days for review. It's now past the 10 business days; what should I do? I sent the e-mail again and even Filmhub doesn't have any advice for me.
@@JHorton Thanks 4 the response! I wanted to wait for an approval because it'll impress people more if there's a "Prime Video" on my poster. Worse part is, I haven't even announced that my film is playing on Amazon anywhere yet. So either I just use the logo anyway (who's gonna know that I didn't quite get permission yet) or just post a new poster without one for now.
The content of this video was very helpful. However, yah, wear a clean shirt. If you plan on monetizing this series or creating an online program, dude, please, wear a clean shirt. Content is king but the queen wants to see a clean shirt.
you're absolutely right. and not the first to mention it. I literally turned on the camera, set lights and did it. I'll put a little more care into my appearance in the future. Thank you for the feedback.
@@JHorton Hi , This poovannan from india ,my friend took tamil movies now he can't release in theaters ,He want sell in online like a Amazon prime video ,zee5 like as.but how to procedure to contact marketing person. I know a about this please reply.thanks.
i made a particularly unique 50 minute movie and I dont know what to do with. I hosted a local premiere for friends and family, uploaded to youtube, made a website, made movie posters even. I believe its a good movie, people outside of friends and family tell me its a good movie, but I dont know what to do with expanding my audience for this kind of movie. I'm looking for any advice in what to do with this if anything at all is possible. I msged you on Facebook about this if thats easier to reply. I really would appreciate it. Thank you and thanks for sharing solid info in your videos.
The website and posters are a good start. I'd find some groups on FB or reddit that are relevent to the movie and start up some conversations there. Don't go into your particular project at first. Add to the community. Then maybe post on of your posters and ask for some input. IF the moment seems right post a link to your movie... But dont just spam it. Keep in mind groups and social media promotion isn't about bringing your audience to you. It's about you giving that audience something they need (wow that sounded cheesy) Also, make some stills from the movie add some captions, maybe do a few memes from them if it's appropriate and try posting a few on instagram.
@@JHorton Thank you very much for the feedback. I understand exactly what you are talking about and will adopt that approach going forward with related social media group pages. I like the idea about using stills, memes etc. I will definitely try that. Thanks again man. I really appreciate it.
8-Bit Bryan np. Let me know how it’s goes . I don’t really interact with anyone but friends on Facebook. But feel free to reach out on Twitter. I’ll totally check out and retweet your stuff. @thejhorton
thank for taking the time to check it out. I've had youtube channel for a long time, but never really uploaded anything other than reels and trailers. This is new to me.
Thanks for sharing! My first film, Hot Box, will (hopefully) be up on Amazon Prime in the next few days. It was nice to hear what I can expect from it. :)
That's great. It is important to know that the #'s I'm talking about are not general averages. I do have titles that make nothing (literally pennies). There are a ton of factors that go into how much you'll make or what scale they'll pay you at. I have a video on that coming out on Monday. But please stop back by in a few months and let me know how you're doing.
Implies. It implies a relationship. From that verbiage, we can wrongly infer a relationship. But calling a video an amazon prime video can't infer anything.
I did one back in August that broke down what I was making on a few of my newer films on Amazon. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qmnVuY-UF88.html I've had a few surpass that since.
honestly, unless you get super lucky or the doc is just straight up gold, there's not a huge financial upside in a short either way. I would most likely put it up on prime for more eyeballs.
I and many other have a made a ton of amazon. Not as much there days as in the past, but still not nothing. It used to account for over 60 percent of my overall film revenue. More like 20 percent today, but stil not bad. This is how I earn my living.
