As a surgical intensive care and trauma RN, I definitely have PTSD. I can’t even imagine being out in the field and being a first responder. The emotional toll is heavy but also equally rewarding.

The first responders, doctors, nurses and military personnel are in my prayers daily. I ask God to keep His cloak of protection wrapped tightly around them, to give them the peace and comfort they need to get through each day from the carnage they are faced with daily. I used to work in the funeral business picking up the deceased individuals and I definitely have first hand knowledge of what they face daily. Any first responder or military that I meet in my daily outings i make it a point of shaking their hand and thanking them for their service to their community and country. Kindness is something the blind can see and the deaf can hear.

Sometimes we FORGET that these amazing people are just human like the rest of us !! The trauma that comes with these highly stressful jobs requires a very special kind of person. Here’s a great big THANKYOU: to the paramedics etc for risking their lives, and keeping us safe day by day. God bless every single one of you people.

As a burn/trauma ICU nurse married to a first responder, I am personally aware of insanity first responders are exposed to every shift. Until you've been in their shoes there is no way to convey the gravity of the weight they bear without complaint. I participated in a ride-along and witnessed him providing CPR on a premature infant he was giving with his ring finger so as not to crush fragile ribs to turn around and go to a civilian apartment building that had been hit by a navy fighter jet doing "touch and goes" is a "normal" day for him.

In our small rural areas in Canada our medical first responders and fire fighters are all VOLUNTEERS!! Dedicated individuals who get paid nothing for this type of stress.

My father was a first responder and now he’s in a wheelchair from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the neck from ptsd, my heart goes out to them
