Ok dude... i'll catch you up. Friday afternoon they adjourned after lunch. That gave the GOP Establishment time to broker a deal with the rebels. A deal was 100% made & in place to elect Mccarthy prior to the start of the 10 pm session. Remember there's 6 rebel GOP members left. Based upon the results and how the tally ended on round 14, instead of electing McCarthy as planned, they left him 1 vote short. Of the 6 rebels, 4 voted for "others" and 2 voted present. The rebels completely messed up the math. A technical error, if you will. The Establishment was pissed cause the deal was already made... hence the confrontation. The Establishment already caved into all their demands. I'd be upset too. They were mad at Gaetz cause he's the little Sargent in charge of the rebels. We can't forget, these are all politicians- they don't wanna APPEAR like they lost by saying "Mccarthy". None of the 6 wanted to go on the record of voting for McCarthy. I mean, to start 4 days of mess that makes international headlines??? Then LOSE and give in??? No no no.. you get to Washington by appearing to be winners, even when you don't get it your way.... So after the 14th round, the Establishment was floored and completely lost, so They took a motion to adjourn to buy time and figure it out. That bought them 10 minutes to restructure the 15th vote. Watch the adjournment votes tally as the clock ticks down: once it was restructured and Gaetz got the rebels inline, everyone voted NAY to stay in session. The 15th vote was structured in a way so none of the 6 hardliners had to say mccarthys name. Everyone knew the The 15th vote was gonna be the the final vote, even before it started, hence mccarthys confidence when he chuckled, "one more time". The 14th was SUPPOSED to be it- but Congressmen can't do math, apparently. It's like a false victory- Yes, none of the six rebels voted for Mccarthy and they stuck to thier guns, even though Mccarthy still won speakership. It appears like the rebels lost cause McCarthy won, but the rebels got the victory behind the scenes. The rebels got all the spoils of war. It's all P.R.- how the public perceives it. smoke and mirrors. If Mccarthy is bad, all 6 can say "well his name didn't come outta my mouth, i didnt vote for him".. Thats what gaetz and everyone else was avoiding in round 14, but Sargent Gaetz didn't have the rebels on the same page. Keep up, jr.

The news is being disingenuous (shocker). It was another 4 Republicans that voted for a different person on the 14 vote. Gaetz and Boebert already voted Present once before. Everything is sensationalized and people easily worked up. Was this historic? Yes. But I believe it was also necessary, hopefully people who aren't completely tribalistic were paying attention.

Mcarthy finally made the concessions for him and he still didn't vote for him he just voted present.

@@joeramirez6126 You've never worked in a legislature before (clearly) so you'd be forgiven for thinking that. But no, it has nothing to do with coverage and everything to do with time scheduling. There are only so many days in a session to get bills passed, and there are a LOT of laws to send through drafting, committee, floor, review, and then off to the otherside - and that's removing any form of a committee substitutes, floor amendments, debates, referrals back to committee, and the whole other chamber potentially amending or declining that one piece of legislation. Consuming yet another day with voting in the Speaker would mean putting off the swearing in of new congressmen, voting on the Rules of the 118th Congress, and then all priority legislation. If you doubt that every day makes a difference I'd encourage you to pick any bill or resolution and follow its progress every so often. Pick a priority one and see just how long it takes to get a cornerstone piece even out of committee. Meetings with lawmakers are measured in minute intervals even for the rank & file.

The progressive of the dem should have done this. They had enough votes to get serious concessions out of Pelosi in 2018. They did nothing and just rolled over. Freedom Caucus digs in their heels and get Juicy appointments and rules changes to get what they want done.
