I swear when I read the title I thought this was about people getting gene therapy to become naturally beautiful so they can do without cosmetics hahah
Cosmetics isn’t just about wanting clearer skin or a certain nose or face shape, some people just like dressing up, wearing pretty colors on their face, and expressing themselves. What we need are actual investments and policies to make cosmetics more eco friendly
Absolutely appreciate the intention behind producing products using latest techniques such as gene editing. Most of the customers are not even aware of animal substances in cosmetic products, especially the vegetarians would definitely be concerned. Thanks to all the Research and Innovation in the fiels
@@miamitten1123 Vegans already avoid unethical products. It's vegetarians who are just scratching the surface by only cutting out meat - many have no idea how much they're still involved in supporting unethical practices.
Short answer: no, it won't reduce the price of cosmetics (for the end consumer) Reason: the profit making motive of capitalism (i.e. the manufacturers will increase their profits by saving on the costs, but these costs won't be passed down to the consumer - and if you believe they will then I am compelled to label you as naive).
The price will be determined when supply and demand are balanced, like it is everywhere else. If there is free competition, the price will be lower than if there is not.
That one word - We can save 3million sharks by replacing sugar with that microbe is goosebumps. 😳😍 would love if more and more cosmetic companies adopt this module.
First, you take the dinglepop, and you smooth it out with a bunch of schleem. The schleem is then repurposed for later batches. Then you take the dinglebop and push it through the grumbo, where the fleeb is rubbed against it. It's important that the fleeb is rubbed, because the fleeb has all of the fleeb juice. Then a Shlami shows up and he rubs it, and spits on it. Then you cut the fleeb. There's several hizzards in the way. The blaffs rub against the chumbles, and the plubus and grumbo are shaved away. That leaves you with a regular old plumbus!
Just imagine if the roles were reversed... a society of intelligent cows extracting collagen from humans for purely vanity purposes :/ very strange indeed
The only peoblem this technology would face will definetly be it's durability/shelflife. Currently, the standard requiered shelflife of a cosmetic product is about 3 years. That means that this biodegradable bioplastic material would need to hold It's form for at least 3 years before it would start to decompose. It would also need to be water resistant in this time period because the vast majority of cosmetics are mainly made of water, maybe this could be solved by coating the inside of the packagin with a natural wax or something. The shelflife problem could be countered in a way by decreasing the amount of product in this packaging thus speeding up the rate at which consumers use up this specific product, which would be one way to get around this kind of potential issue.
Virtually all types of biodegradable plastic alternatives produced today, from lactic acid derived products to pinaple composite, have a huge common problem in that they start melting at temperatures above 37C or ~100F. We are far from replacing plastics. The problem is that the qualities that make plastics so useful (durable, stable, light ) are also the very things that make it non biodegradable. Biodegradable materials are by their very nature less chemically stable - that's why they are subject to (bio) degradation..
Hope we have a gene editing revolution which will alloww us to slow aging (maybe reverse it ) , remove hereditary diseases, improve us physical attributes ( looks , strength etc)
It feels like every celebrity has cosmetic business now, I say it's unnecessary since these celebrity business are also doing the same as other brands, they preach sustainable packaging, and cruelty-free products yet if they haven't jumped into the bandwagon of making cosmetics, then that is more sustainable. Since many cosmetic business are also doing the same as them.
Very interesting ! Just a bit confused by the use of "synthetic biology" and "gene edtiting" vocabulary instead of plain old GMO. Because, what is done is GMO and not gene editing. Insulin has been produced this way for decades now.
Synthetic biology is the academic field/discipline, gene editing is the process or action, and GMOs are the organisms that are produced after gene editing.
Or we all accept our body as it is and don’t need any cosmetic or gene editing. It’s called being natural and does not hurt anyone, animal nor human. Plus it is free, skin problems and cancer free !
Unfortunately, we are way too far from this ideal. We are still killing animals. I hope some day humans will get better and I think that this video is a tinny light in the end of the tunnel
This is very insightful; it seems 'sustainability' may not be enough to help our environment so technology can help us, unless we as consumers stop demand which is unlikely. Thanks for this content.
Thanks for the video. Even as a makeup artist, I was able to open my cosmetics shop and afford expensive beauty products by investing in the Crypto currency market. Thanks to Mr. Larry Kent Nick, for his amazing skills that helped me make money from day trading.
This particular technology, no. However, if you were to modify the patient's scalp cells to make them keep producing hair then that would be a different story.
But GMO meat and grains got rejected by consumers because of its carcinogen properties, so this synthetic bio for cosmetics, i wonder how far will it go!? But many innocent animals and plants are going to be saved if that works properly and sooner.
@@TheCommunicationCoach There is no such thing as messing around with genes. Genes code for specific proteins. And proteins used for cosmetics aren't going to do any harm even if errors are made in DNA. The protein the microbe makes won't be functional and the microbe will simply die. Now if you are talking about editing genes in human genome, that would be something considered risky. And it is necessary because even if it's for vanity we could save a lot more species which are doomed to extinction and maintain biodiversity.
@@TheCommunicationCoach all i am saying it gene editing for cosmetic is the safest gene editing procedure. It's safer than making insulin which is already made in the same way on a large scale
Friends, the International Social Project CREATIVE SOCIETY is gaining tremendous momentum in the world. People from different countries, nationalities and religions are coming together to build a just society. Only together we can change our world!
Everybody's talking about cosmetics and beauty standards, but this technology could also help people who suffer from hereditary diseases. I hope it can be used in the right way. But I'm also afraid it might lead to racial cleansing.
I have an idea. What about we all stop being so vain and worrying about how we look on the outside? Smh. People are starving and dieing of diseases and your debating issues like this?
‘…eight out of ten of each of the ingredients…’ (at 0:20) In grade school, phrases like this drew my attention away from the teacher’s lesson and nudged me into daydreaming.
I'm a trans male and I love eye liner and maybe a little blush but that can be dry...and that's about it. If I was a girl I wouldn't bother with those claggy layers of foundation, moisturiser and toner (and whatever other piles of muck they put on their face). Then after a few years they get blemishes caused by all that muck on their face (going by comparisons in the women's mags). And they have to keep putting it on to cover the damage caused by it. You poor things! Better to save time and money and not do it. A bit of eye liner and dry blush does the trick. I dress as a chick when I go out and I only wear eye liner (and clothes). I couldn't stand muck on my lips either. So annoying and uncomfortable! I like to feel comfortable when I go out and eye liner and a playsuite does it.
Your a trans male that still dresses as a woman when you go out? I know your confused self isn't out here criticizer others for wanting to change their appearance.
Nothing chemical is better than natural, however less vanity and consumerism is. Plus what about all the shark fin disaster- why not pay better price for all those dead sharks so their not just dumped back in ocean!
How gene editing "COULD" reduce costs for cosmetics. Guess what? The video previews that they are doing this for about 10 years and didn't cost more then it does now 🤦🏼♂️🙈😂😂
