00:00 😟 Many struggle with Black Swan skills due to fear of getting it wrong. 00:30 😔 Fear of generating an adverse response makes people uncomfortable. 01:00 🤷‍♂ The mindset should be "So what?" if you get it wrong. 01:13 🏹 Attempting is more important than being accurate. 01:45 ⏳ Adverse responses won't last forever; use dynamic silence to let them vent. 02:12 🌍 One negotiation principle: the urge to correct is irresistible. 02:38 💡 Intentionally mislabeling can provoke corrections and reveal more truthful information. 04:01 🗣 If criticized for getting it wrong, apologize and point out the disconnect. 05:00 🔍 Mislabeling can clarify misunderstandings and foster productive dialogue. 06:10 🧠 Intuition is key in negotiation; don't fear getting it wrong. 07:22 🚫 Avoiding tactical empathy leads to negative emotions and dynamics. 08:02 🌟 Embrace discomfort to revolutionize your negotiation skills. 11:03 👏 Acknowledging fear in negotiations helps you learn and improve. 12:23 🛡 Prepare for attacks by staying composed and apologizing if needed. 12:58 👍 Correcting mislabels can feel good for the other party and beneficial for you. 13:43 🎓 A story about mislabeling demonstrates the power of getting more truthful responses. 15:49 💰 Mislabeling led to buying a building for pennies on the dollar. 19:37 🧘‍♂ Control your emotions to handle adverse reactions better. 20:31 💬 Staying curious and in the moment helps uncover valuable insights. 21:00 🤔 Use labels like "It seems like..." to address attacks and understand deeper concerns.

A month ago I was having a conversation with someone practicing my labeling and each time I got it wrong, she gave me even MORE personal information. I didn't mis label on purpose, didn't know until now it's a tactic

When you do it intuitively then it works much better than using it all the time on purpose Use it sparingly on purpose, let your intuition do the work ( it will get even better the more you use it )

I've spent thousands on black swan group training, fireside, live training, masterclass, etc. They won't demonstrate how to do these techniques with anyone but a paid actor. The techniques from the book work well but i feel like I've wasted a lot of time and money expecting more from the training. Every time I've asked for a demonstration I'm told to go to more live events. I know the material like the back of my hand and use it daily but i still feel like I'm trying to learn how to ice skate from reading a book and listening to descriptions of how to do it, but without ever seeing a person skating. I even paid for Steve Shulls real estate training (I'm not even a realtor), which is based on black swan method but even they constantly do things BSG says not to (ie "tell me more about that"). I learn by watching and emulating, not by being lectured to. It's really frustrating but nobody seems to care. It feels like they're trying to waste time talking, explaining, justifying. Imagine how frustrating taking classes to learn a new language would be if the teacher won't demonstrate a conversation in that language. How good could you possibly get? My apologies if this came across as disrespectful. I'm frustrated.

Getting it wrong, making me correct you only works with people who are cognitively functioning. Doesn’t work on someone with low confidence unable to speak up for ourselves… Coming back from Afghanistan I said I was low self confidence, that injury never healed, festering until I could not say anything to anyone for nothing. - edited - testing for the lie, or implementation, may help if it’s someone who’s BlackSwan trained, though I am not sure what the definitive answer may be.

Assuming someone will correct you, is a risky strategy.
@ksw501
@ksw501 Месяц назад
That’s true. From what I heard Derek say is that the need to correct is similar to a reflex reaction. If that’s correct then it seems that there’s no assumption involved?
@pging8328

@@ksw501 the assumption is that it's reflex. It's not always. Watch out. Don't assume that because you weren't corrected, then what you're alleging is true

It is no doubt a risk. However, it's a calculated risk at certain points in a conversation. You have to be actively listening to properly place the mislabel.
