I recommend getting some Miracle all purpose polishing cloth, it was one of the best purchases I’ve made for guitar maintenance. Just rub the miracle cloth on the frets (no fretguard required) and vigorously buff the fret with a clean microfiber or suchlike cloth and boom, your frets are mirror finished

@guyfromnj

I bought one and still have it. Mine isn’t bad but not wonderful. The trem is very noisy and stiff. I haven’t done any setup work to it yet. The volume taper is weird and maybe I will try snipping the capacitors. I wouldn’t of thought that would be the issue though as I’ve had treble bleeds in other guitars and they didn’t behave like this. Maybe it’s a odd capacitor they used. Idk enough about electronics to know. All in all I think it’s a great guitar for the money but I’m not blown away. The neck is a step above for sure. I think with a bit of tweaking I can fall in love with it. It is amazing what you can get for 500 bucks now a days. Also in all fairness I haven’t spent much time in this price range in years. I would like to get a classic vibe just to compare them.

This guitar is a part of a budget guitar sweet spot under $1000 USD. To me, if this is your budget, it is a great guitar among other great guitars in this price point. My first guitar was an electric my dad got for me through the Sears catalog in 1970. Guitars have come a long way and to me, this and others in this range can be played at home or on gigs. Pease and love your guitar.

I know this is an old video, and I'm not one to comment often on any video. But thank you so much. I've had this guitar (S7) for almost a year now, and while I really love the playability, for the last 4 months, I almost stopped playing entirely because I felt like my ears and my playing was complitely off. Turns out, it was the treble bleed... Never had one on a guitar, and I'm the kind of player that keeps is volume very low. I removed it, and I've been making my fingers bleed for the past 2 days, and got so many good tones out of it. Thanks so much !

My experiences are essentially the same as yours. LOVE the neck, it's perfect. Love the tones that are possible with the HSS. I've had the same issue with the volume knob but I've also felt the tone knob isn't ideal either. It feels very non-linear and seems like "all-or-nothing". Not that big of an issue but noticeable compared to my other two electrics. I'm really grateful as you have been, by far, the biggest influence in picking this one up. I absolutely love it. Now, if only you would get your hands on the H7, I am more inclined to get that compared to the L7.

hey mate, I have an L7. I really like it, but after 6 months I can't say I love it. It is built perfectly, no complaints there, but it doesn't feel or sound like the guitar they are modelled after. It feels like a very modern guitar with the looks of a LP. On the other end, with the S7 they aim for a more modern guitar (like you mentioned: AZ, Suhr, Tom Anderson,...), they hit the target there because Sire is a modern guitar making brand and they produced a modern guitar, a superstrat. With the L7 they produced a modern guitar to offer an alternative for a very traditional guitar...not an easy thing to do. And of course, to their defence: there is no 'super Les Paul' equivalent of a superstrat. :) A LP will always be a traditional guitar and if a company produces one, it will be compared to a traditional version of it, I think ESP/LTD were smart in offering a single cut with a very modern look! That way they escaped the 'comparison' trap

Wonderful video on the Sire S7, but people need to remember you are talking about a guitar that sells for $599.00 in the USA. I have a $850.00 Mexican Stratocaster that I love, after spending $400.00 on electronics, and $250.00 on a fret dress/set up. These are the best intro/intermediate guitars that I have ever played. You have a dachshund!! 😍😍😍 Oh, and great video. I think that treble bleed was improperly wired. All of my guitars, my Charvels and Andersons, have treble bleeds. And a proper treble bleed simply keeps the high end as you roll the volume down. The volume still works perfectly for swells, lower gain tones, etc. Andy Timmons has used a treble bleed mod for 30 years. His volume knob dynamics are completely unhindered. So I'd say, if anything, the factory is doing something wrong in the wiring of their particular "treble bleed" circuit.

@pastorkev777
@pastorkev777 2 года назад
Just an FYI it's the resistor that plays the biggest role in how it affects your volume pot taper. So it isn't just the treble bleed that causes the issue, but the resister value and how it is setup. I have many guitars with treble bleeds, that have perfect tapers, and I can still retain high-end. The idea behind a treble bleed is to be able to retain high-end, so that you can roll your volume back and get different gain levels out of your drives or amp and not have it sound muddy. Oh and I have a couple guitars that I need to update as the values interact in a way that ruins the taper.

I had an Epiphone Sheraton that I had to sell at one time when funds were tight and I missed that type of model guitar...jazz, blues, semi-hollow body sound. I knew I would replace it one day and a few months back I heard about the Sire H7. I am a huge Larry C fan so I tried to get one but they were all sold out and back-ordered until Aug/Sept. Luckily, I found one online through the Music Store Live in CA that had minor damage when shipped and was returned. Their crew repaired the problem and I picked it up for $500 and couldn't be happier. So much better quality than the Epiphone. F-hole workmanship is top notch as is the fretwork and overall feel and the only thing I had to do was get some locking tuners, since this must have been one of the earlier models. Graph Tech Ratio tuners were suggested by the guys at Music Store Live and that too turned out awesome. I highly recommend this model to anyone searching for that type of guitar but not wanting to pay $2,000 for a Gibson.

Basically just only need to disconnect (desoldering or clipping) and insulate (elect. tape) one side of the treble bleed. That takes it out of the circuit but leaves it in the guitar . Makes it easy to undo the mod.

I got one of these today I had completely forgotten I had already heard about the treble bleeds in it. I blocked it off as I never use the trem, and the guy who sold it didn't include the trem arm for whatever reason. I tried some swells as my other electric guitar has issues (gotta clean the pots) I found the dead spot 0-2 where it just skips to loud from silent and remembered the treble bleeds it has. I plan on removing them, but whatever type of mix matched strings got put on here by the other owner are great in D standard so I've yet to resolve the treble bleed problem as I don't wanna loose this interesting set of strings but soon they'll be gone. All in all this is so far my favorite feeling guitar neck.

Great video! Although I already own a single coil guitar, this type has always been my preference because of the specific sound. With a Sire S7 I notice that sound, I have a Fender Strat, on RU-vid with an even stronger sound in the treble level? And the guitar has interesting extras. The roasted neck and locking tuners for example. So I need to know more about this! Off to the music store soon.

Hey man, love the vid. I've been looking into the sire guitars and this really helped. Just wondering what your volume and tone knobs since they look better than the stock ones. I ride the volume a lot and haven been looking for volume knobs like those but can never find any. Hopefully you'll make a vid on the new tele models too.

Thanks Johnathan. It does sound like strong competition to the aforementioned price whoppers. Could you tell me about those knobs please? I find the standard Fender knobs to be cumbersome and slippery, grip-wise, and whatever you've added to them to thicken the grip topside looks perfect! The Ibanez AZ's have the right idea there and this looks like the way to get there.

Hi John. Nicely presented guitar. I play the Godin Passion Custom Classic and I can tell that quality of the Godin guitars are amazing. Maybe you can try one? I prefer the Godin over the Fender, since I have my Godin. I wish you the best.

That fret board and neck looks amazing. So do the Eart guitars. I wonder what technology they are using to finish these necks. Surely at this price they aren't hand crafted.
@johnnathancordy
@johnnathancordy 3 года назад
It's done in Indonesia so I would imagine it is hand finished? Starting point would be CNC though presumably?

My Sire S7 just arrived. Honestly I was a bit disappointed, even the body shape on mine doesn’t seem as rounded as yours. Just some silly things with it, bending the high e string pulled the string right off the nut, major fret buzz on the first and second frets of the 2nd string and just in general didn’t feel as smooth as I expected and have heard. I would have expected the guitar to be in better shape on arrival. My L7 is great, fun guitar to play but just not feeling the S7. I am considering the Schecter S style instead as the neck radius sounds more to my liking and it gets great reviews.

Hey Gary - thanks for sharing your experience! Sorry to hear yours wasn't as enjoyable - is it still returnable?

@@johnnathancordy hey John yeah I believe it is. I hate the thought of giving it up, wondering if I am just not giving it a chance. Your playing and the tones and sounds you are getting from your video are superb so the thought of just returning it urks me a quite a bit. I’ve seen nothing but rave reviews about the S7. I’ve sent a note to Sire as well to get their feedback on it. Thanks for your response John. Love watching your videos btw 👍🏻

Good tip, thanks! Will give it a try... Did you like the factory setup as-is? I found the action set too high, but this is my first S-type so maybe that’s typical?
@johnnathancordy

I did like it from the factory/shop floor yes!
@johnnewton1830
@johnnewton1830 3 года назад
You'll probably find most guitar companies default setups are on the mid to high side so that any Joe blow picking it up and playing it is less likely to have fret buzz. But does the factory setup really matter? When you buy a guitar, new, used, whatever, adjust it the way you like it and then the factory setup doesn't matter ever again.

Great playing! I'm really interested in the guitar, but wish they offered it with a '12 radius. Do you find the neck to lend itself well for fast playing and such?

Love your music style and videos. I see you often play the S7, but not so much the L7. Are you as enraptured with that Les Paul style Sire guitar? Being Larry Carlton signature guitars, I would be interested in your thoughts on the H7 (335 style), though I get from the tenor of your video that you may not own one. Like most of us I have enough guitars (though in the context of guitars, "enough" can approach infinity), but not having a 335, and given the low price point on the Sire with Larry Carlton's endorsement, it seems like a good target for my next acquisition.
@johnnathancordy
@johnnathancordy 3 года назад
I don't have the 335 unfortunately! The L7 is like a les paul - and it's great - and I love the satin neck on that, BUT I don't play les pauls as much as strat style guitars if that makes sense?
