I have seen other videos on youtube of people explaining the basic concepts contained in a book, but the way Dami does it is really amazing. I hope she keeps doing this kind of videos explaining concepts of interesting books. I really enjoyed it.

Spent many years as a construction manager working with these ideas, beautiful designs and great people. Its refreshing to come across your channel and be able to share in your obvious energy and enthusiasm surrounding these subjects in architecture, design and the built environment, along with your thoughts on our internal process for bringing them into the "real world". Hope to see many more videos from you in the future!

welcome back. a great and insightful video - just ordered the book. as a designer and engineer of over 40 yrs i have always put the notion of creativity at the forefront of my innovation and creative process. having the right environment, being able to explore and experiment without undue pressure to come up with results, looking for disparate connections contextually and around me and not be driven by commercial factors generally contribute very positively to the creation and development of ideas. another book that i find really useful is 'the secret of the highly creative thinker' by nielson and thurber. cheers

Ohh interesting. Thanks for the recommendation! I think at a very basic level, the principles of creativity help us notice and remember things around us that otherwise would be mundane or irrelevant. Ever since adopting some of these concepts into my life, I feel like my days have become more interesting and just more worth remembering.

The section on the hunch reminded me of something Stephen King said: "A writer's notebook is the best way in the world to immortalize bad ideas. My idea about a good idea is one that sticks around and sticks around and sticks around." I mostly disagree with the notebook part, but I do agree with the ideas that stick around; they're the hunch, an idea with enough substance that your brain just naturally keeps chewing on it, sometimes for years until something else comes along and suddenly you're 50 pages deep into writing a new book. Or explaining the evolution of species. :p

Hello, I just discovered your channel and watched a few at the end of my very bad week. I love the way you edit your videos, they have really good pace. You have a really good voice and it helps me focus on the topic. (which is something of a rarity in HK. by the way random info: the drone shot of the street crossing at 06:39 is Mong Kok in Hong Kong, intersection of Argyle street and Sai Yeung Choi street. The wedge shaped building, the red taxis and the positions of the MTR exits gave it away) Thank you for putting so much work into these videos, have a great weekend! 🍹

Hailing from Vancouver as well. this video is interesting and I will have to check out that book. I am an aspiring screenwriter and I have gotten ideas in the shower. I remember walking around the grocery store up and down the isles completely lost in thought for over half an hour formulating my script idea from beginning to end before I realized that I was there to buy groceries. A walk does help. Admittedly, I am stuck on another script idea but maybe that book you mentioned might help. I would have to agree with this video as my ideas did come to me all of a sudden but, beforehand, I was doing something related to it. Ideas, do come from a network whether you are exploring, talking to people, or engaged in an activity. On a side note: From an architectural point of view, have you checked out Cob Houses? It is a house made out of sand, clay and straw. If designed properly, these types of homes have interesting thermal properties that normal homes don't have and the walls also absorb sound and moisture. These types of structures have been around for centuries. I also mention this because of one of your other videos on how space and the environment can affect people. Most homes today are square whereas Cob home is molded and has a natural look and feel to it. Also, I like the blend of old technology mixed with new technology for designing buildings. Right angles are rare in nature. Rounded surfaces is ubiquitous in nature and that is the beauty of a Cob House and why the Cob House in Mayne Island has a 1-year waitlist for Airbnb. There is a beautiful one on Mayne island close to Vancouver Island called Cob House that is an Airbnb that has a one-year waitlist. Below is the youtube video to the Cob Hosue on Mayne Island BC: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F6sfLm8sNIs.html&ab_channel=FLORB Other info of interest: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OUGQNVleOEo.html&ab_channel=TinyHouseGiantJourney

What do you think has helped most with being comfortable talking to the camera? Has your presentation experience with work helped the most, or is it more of something you have gotten used to more over time? I've been wanting to make a similar format of videos about writing, but wrapping my head around talking just to the camera while also making it sound like a natural conversation feels hard to get used to.
@DamiLeeArch
@DamiLeeArch 3 года назад
I can't think of any one particular thing that's helped. Everyone has different issues, so my suggestion would be to just start. When you're editing your videos, you will find a million annoying things about the way you talk that make the editing process a nightmare, and you'll be forced to improve 😆

No I don't believe the role of the architect can ever be automated. There's too many social nuances and soft skills involved. I talk about this a bit in the q&a of my Live video I did a few months ago.
