The owner of Enxi just sent me this email . You can not ask for more than this. Hi Phillip Thanks very much for your review. So there is three problems for the guitars need. 1,strings tree ,we will send free string tree to customers 2, Switch ,we already order new switch from Hosco ,will change them 3, Volume and tone knob,I will add the brass case as you use for all guitars Thanks again for your help

I'm really curious what their relationship is with Shijie. I remember seeing that Enxi was at one point a distributor for Shijie, but Shijie dropped them and even put out a statement saying as much a year or two ago. Now Enxi's putting out their own guitars. Might just be speculation on my end, but it feels like something weird happened there.

I appreciate that Phil emphasised that this guitar comes from a small shop. There is this stereotype that anything made in the east must inherently be made in a miserable gray superfactory and anything in the US is made by passionate Johnny American with his big beard and the tools his pappy left him. This stereotype is becoming less and less true, especially as Chinese people are increasingly exposed to western music and getting into guitar culture themselves as luthiers and gear nerds.

I have to agree with you Phil, any guitar around $1000 is a big ask for a lot of folks. I don't own a single guitar which cost more than $700, so the $1000 plateau isn't even realistic unless some serious good fortune comes my way. IF I could afford a guitar at that price, I'd buy a used American made guitar or a high-end import guitar, or even a Player Plus Telecaster because they are great guitars. That said, I really like the color and the roasted maple neck on this one.

Just to add to the thread. I received mine about three weeks ago. Vwry nice guitar. Fit and finish wlis perfect, perfect frets. Pickups are great though I may try a HB in the bridge. The only issues I see is the bridge. It's proprietary and those saddles pop off if the string breaks and was not torqued down tight enough. So if you lose it you're out of luck. I emailed the owner and he is going to send me a few extras. Finally, I'll share my thoughts on how it compares to any Fender Tele in roughly the same price category....some folks below asked. I own two MIA Telecasters and the main difference is the neck. The Enxi is better than any Fender product I've played. Everything else is personal preference but the neck is leaps and bounds a better feel. Considering prices today a grand isn't so bad.

@lawinsmalltimore
@lawinsmalltimore 2 года назад
Not sure why folks think it’s too expensive. If you want a neck flatter than 9.5” you’ll need about $1000 for a Fender Nashville. Want stainless frets too? Now you are at $2k or more for an ultra. Roasted maple and chambered body? Gotta move to Suhr or Anderson at over $3k OR an AZS for $2k put somewhat polarizing looks. No I think this is priced competitively. Just tough to demo it but these days everything is tough to demo there’s no inventory or stores don’t want to stock high end, just special order

Nice features but if they want to break in and get a piece of the market $800 would be the right price, but there's shipping cost from China on top of that. Shijie started out around 800 (plus shipping) but after their name got out they went up in price and are no longer the deal they once were. Only China made guitars that interest me are Eastman, more money but quality is worth it.

The guitar looks and sounds great and I'm glad to see that the company is responding to your opinion. With that being said if I'm going to spend over 1k (after tax and shipping) it's most likely going to be a Fender, Gretsch or a boutique/custom made. On a Squier, a thinner body denotes it's budget status and gets criticism as a result. And yet you can get the same on a much more expensive guitar (body material withholding). Tone Rider pickups too - on the original Classic Vibe guitars!
@drock4real612
@drock4real612 2 года назад
As others have said in different ways - $74 pickups in a $1000 guitar is offensive to my sensibilities, as is the improper pot shafts for the knobs, again, on a $1000 guitar. The case swag doesn't make up for that kind of thing, in my book. Hey, we already have lots of picks at home.

Phil, great review as always! I was really struck by the bridge, do you know why they designed it this way or if there are any problems with traditional bridges that it’s trying to solve? A lot of $ for a guitar from China, and if they are trying to compete with $3k models they will need to smooth out the fret ends. The bridge is a big improvement on a telecaster bent metal types, if they started making these available at a sensible price they would be a great upgrade. I like the slim body and neck, these will make it more comfortable to play compared to standard models. At a lower price i would be tempted, but there are some excellent lower priced models from the likes of ESP Ltd available.

A very nice design, on a real American classic. I like the thin part of this guitar, the neck looks very good and the saddles are very new from what I’ve seen… The price is still too high for this guitar, I would like to feel this and check it out, I’d feel more comfortable for this to be in the 700-800 range and they would probably sell a bunch. I’m impressed by the saddles as a new concept but I have a bunch of Teles that stand up to the price tag! Just my opinion…

I don't know very much about guitars, but that set-screw-meets-split-shaft thing kind of blows my mind, even on a $300 Squier. Like, you buy a guitar and one of the knobs starts falling off-hey, it happens! So, the obvious answer is to tighten the set screw-i.e., the screw whose job it is to make sure the knob stays tight on the shaft. Obviously, duh! But on one of these guitars, that won't work-it just crushes the two halves of the split shaft together and basically ruins your pot (or the shaft of it, anyway). Like I said, I'm an idiot, but it just seems obvious to me this is a stupid idea, and I'm sort of stunned that anyone whose job it is to make guitars (*cough*Squier*cough*) would put it into production like it was obviously fine. And it's even worse to find out someone did it on a $1000 (sorry, $998-my mistake) guitar!

You call that back cut Ibanez, all I see is my 90's era Charvel. If they really want to grab some attention they should do sparkle and crackle finishes. A T style with those would be awesome

Totally Charvel, I have a couple of early 90's with that exact carve.It would have been interesting if they had copied some additional features from my 92' Fusion such as 24 3/4 scale . :)
