The only thing i hate is that you can only do a subscription plan. Call me crazy, but I'd much rather just pay the $200+ price to own it forever rather than do a dumb subscription fee. I am still an amateur artist so I'm not making commissions, so it's not really worth the investment for me, but i hope they will eventually merge the program license instead of ripping us off. However, that's likely not going to happen because corporate greed... Also, I know this is weird, but you have a very soothing voice.
It might be corporate greed but idk why they'd do it when their desktop versions are one time payments. I think this is more of anti piracy. On android its really, really easy to crack and app and upload it as a free version online as an APK. Most paid apps are cracked like this. But I still think $25 a year is absurd for a mobile version
ughhh i was really going for the Ipad Pro 12.9 but samsung is def killing it! might as well go for Samsung! since i can freely do anything unlike apple annd i really love CLIP STUDIO PAINT!
Closed your video and immediately bought a Tab S7 lol this is all I'm hoping to use it for, and knowing that CSP works just as well as in the desktop version did not make me hesitate. Awesome review, THANKS!
Just splurged on the Tab S7+ during Black Friday sales, definitely wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't for Clip Studio Paint. I am very pleased with my purchase. Background info, I class myself as a keen hobbyist and have been using an ageing Cintiq 13HD. CSP is definitely just a port of the desktop version, I've been using it since its inception and I feel right at home. After spending about 1-2 hours optimising the workspace, shortcuts and commands, getting a drawing lightbox stand, overall, it is as efficient as my Cintiq. The lack of buttons was offset by the fact that I can select stuff with my spare left hand. By disabling the usage of tools with finger, where you can't finger paint with your fingers, the palm rejection issue isn't much of an issue. Your canvas might twitch if it detects your palm as pinch/rotate, but hardly the worst thing to happen. The drawing experience with Tab S7+ and CSP is excellent, better than a last gen Cintiq & not-new-computer combo. The only issue I ran into was that free transformation is very slow, I've used CSP on 3 different computers and it's never this slow. One tip. If you open CSP in Samsung Dex mode (basically their desktop mode), the icons will be smaller and give you more drawing space. The icons are still big enough for my small hands to click on.
Yeah, for some reason free transform is so slow. When you use SamsungDex, are you using with external monitor? Eg looking at monitor while drawing on table?
@@teohyc In DeX mode, I just draw directly on the tablet. Haven't tried an external monitor, I don't have the correct cable. The Tab S7+ is only marginally smaller than a 13 inch cintiq, so to me it's still a good size. I spent a whole weekend sketching my fan comic, it feels just fine.
Thank you so much for making this video. I'm new to digital art and just got an S7+. I also got a staedtler digital jumbo and can't wait to dive into CSP!!
I bought the note 20 ultra yesterday and I immediately tried CSP for the 1st time. The menus do need some get used to, but as of now, I think it is very complete and enjoyable to use (I love the s-pen). I can't wait to put my hands on a S7+ with CSP as the experience can only be better on a 12.4 screen. For references, I'm a graphic designer using photoshop and illustrator on a daily basis on my Acer laptop/xpen artist 15.6 pro combo (which more than likely might become obsolete in my house after a get the s7+) I hope that could help in some way... In the words of Flossy Carter: "This is a major GO!"
Hi there. I am studying graphic designing. Do you think S7+ can run photoshop? Well, is there a photoshop program for S7+? Is CSP as good as photoshop or illustrator? I am in the process of making a decision. Thanks
@@hussainluaibi1481 hello. I'm not aware of an android version of photoshop at this moment, but if there is one, there's no doubt that the S7+ would be able to run it perfectly... From a purely artistic point of view, I think CSP is a better option than Photoshop. It is a very resourceful, very complete program for artists. It is heavily used by animation/character design/comic book/artwork professionals... You can't go wrong with CSP (formerly known as Manga Studio). Now, As a graphic designer, i think you should have Photoshop and Illustrator anyway as they are in my opinion the very best in their respective categories. Photoshop for extensive work on your photos and illustrator to work with vectors. They are all wonderful tools that you need to have in your possession no matter what. Graphic designing is a vast world. What is your specialty? Artwork? cartoons? logos?
@@nathaniel972ful Hi Neg. Thanks for the reply. I am doing a graphic design course which will continue till April next year. My main focus will be on web desiging. For the time being we are working on logos, posters and some artwork.
The way I change brush size on the iPad version is to go to modifier key settings. As a standard, the change brush size is set to CMD-ALT, and with these keys pressed you can drag the pen left or right to seamlessly change the brush size. As I find pressing 2 shortcut buttons on the side keyboard rather difficult (because of the lack of haptic feedback) I changed it to the space bar (which is normally set to pan, but as I use the finger gestures to pan, this is not neccesary). I find this is the quickest way. I am not 100% sure it will work as well on the Galaxy, but perhaps you could check?
When the pen is close, you can't touch the screen. That's a feature not a bug. It helps immensely with unwanted hand touches. I don't think they will be able to disable that.
It’s really inconvenient and should be an option. I have to lift my pen off the screen and tap of the edge keyboard. Even when I lift my s pen, the keyboard will sometimes not register my finger inputs. It makes the edge keyboard useless to me in my opinion. IPad is not not that.
It seems a little inconvenient for an all-purpose tablet. Saying that as an ibisPaint user, so I could be wrong. It's just kind of unnatural for me to not have brush size sliders and tiny popup menus that never cover the screen, unless you need them to.
Yep, that's my issue with it. As a straight conversion to a new platform it's *very* impressive; but it would be nice to have a few features to clear space easily and a rationalised quick menu/puck for tablets.
but you can move the menus as you like, i always have the brush sizes open in the right with the layer menu too, and the timeline menu, the color menu and the tool menu i have it loose
So I actually tried the app and its amazing, u can customize pretty much everything and organize your working space, at first i was pissed about why they didnt put all toolbars on sides, becouse galaxy tabs have already awkward aspect ratio for drawing so cutting a lot of space on top was extremely stupid i thought, but its possible to remove pretty much everything. Only downside is it could be much smoother, i use galaxy tab s7 plus and even rotating the canvas lags a lot.
@@teohyc I was ready to sell my s7 plus and switch to ipad mainly for aspect ratio, but they are not very popular and its hard to sell for good price. Now im not sure if its worth the money to switch, iv never used ipad with pencil, is drawing experience much better? Bigger screen and better aspect ratio are already reasonable arguments, as well as apps like procreate, affinity designer, art studio pro. The price difference is pretty significant unfortunetely.
@@ripper9112 Clip Studio Paint does seem to perform more smoothly (canvas navigation) with iPad. My general advice is: Choose base on the work you want to use. Is there anything you want to do on the Samsung you can't, but possible with iPad? iPad to me is mostly for drawing. The Samsung can do more. Samsung Dex, File explorer, download files properly to where you want, copy text easily where iPad can't. Not sure if it's worth making a loss to sell the Samsung and then spending money to get the iPad.
@@teohyc I use tablet only for drawing, iv got Pc for other stuff, i agree in terms of multimedia and versatility samsung is great. If i sell samsung for reasonable price i switch, if not i stick to samsung. Clip studio save the day, without it i would switch for sure, just started to use it yesterday, and i like it more and more as im getting more comfortable with it.
Love your reviews (and your drawing style!!) Not sure how many people would be interested, but I would love to see a review of Krita on Samsung Tab s7/s7+ and whether it is usable as the main drawing software (especially palm rejection and file sizes)
Goddamn that's a lot of things, I'm getting a s7 as my first tablet for digital art. I'll first learn basic/easy apps then I'll probably be able to use clipstudio to the fullest.
Don't be mistaken between s7 and s7+ 😂. S7 has 51ms pen latency . While s7plus has 9 ms pen latency. S7 is ips LCD. And s7plus is super amoled display. Just in case you don't know about it. 👍
@@sillyeyelash291 What? No, even the s6 didn't have that much latency, the regular S7 has 26ms which is still a huge improvement. And yeah I was talking about the S7 only cuz my budget isn't that big, even though it has reduced latency than the + I probably won't have that much of a big problem.
@@circumcizednun1814 yeah. You're right. Its actually 26 ms. But I will still go for s7 plus. 9ms, desktop mode super amoled display and the only android that currently support clip studio l, its worth the price. You cam go for EMI option on their official Samsung online store. Debit card is accepted too.
@Rob DaFrog really? I'm planning to buy a tablet, but I'm a bit confused to choose between ipad 8 or tab s6 lite for drawing. Which one do you prefer? And why?
thanks for the review teoh! i love clip studio paint, but not the subscription system. i think windows tablet with regular csp looks like a better deal
Fr! I really wanted to buy a Samsung Tab S7+, and I was even more excited to learn it was getting CPS because the android sphere is really lacking in terms of drawing software... but I'd rather buy something once no matter the sum, than sign up for a subscription.
Love CSP but that's kind of a robbery that they make you pay monthly or yearly even if you're already a customer of theirs. I've been considering getting the tab s7+ to work on projects away from my main set up and have been considering the ability to port my projects to a cloud storage where I can. I'm starting to wonder if I should use another software at least as far as android goes.
@@MaoRatto There is no need to explain because different people see value differently. CSP subscription is US $25/year, or $2+/month. For someone who draws often with CSP it's definitely worth the money for all the features provided. EASILY worth the money when you consider Photoshop is US $10/month. But CSP monthly subscription just an option. You can go with CSP desktop which is one time purchase, or go with the many other free apps, e.g. Krita, Medibang Paint Pro. Just because it's worth the money to me does not mean it's going to be worth the money for you. For desktop users, it makes sense to get the one time purchase. For tablet users, there's only the subscription model unfortunately.
I just wrote the same thing, to make quick sketches, the stabilization must be removed, it is generally used when inking is required. also within preference, in inverted cursor the option should be marked without delay, those options are also because there are people who prefer to make the strokes slower, the program is for all tastes.
"The line tries to catch up with the pen tip, but it's no big deal" It's actually the biggest deal, and it's why I still use a Wacom Intuos3 from 2008 on my desktop - zero lag.
this vid is actually quite old, now csp for the tab s7+ is pretty optimized. barely feel any pen lag. can confirm as i am having a blast with the free 6 month trial right now. being able to see what you draw right away is such a game changer
To know if the line follows the pencil with greater speed, you must set the stabilization to 0, those option is in the panel on your left side, if you manage to test it at 0, you would give me your opinion if I change the experience in something, I would appreciate it. very interested in the product.
@@soulextinguisher 3/5 bars on the latency. Even with 0 stabilization, there's still latency. But 5/5 has significantly latency/gap. 3/5 is still something I can work with.
I got Paint Studio for my PC I got it on sale actually two days ago half price 25 dollars, but when I opened it, the whole thing is full of ads and I have to sign in every time I use it, if I bought it, I entered the key why do I have to sign in? and why I have to see all those ads, aside from their cutesy stuff, I am not a teenager, I want to load the program, draw and work in peace, it is very annoying, I can't turn those ads off and I can't just go in without signing in. is is like that all the time or is it because I got the online version and on sale??
the pc version will always open a first window of news where you can see your latest work or manage them, the account is only to access to download tools or brushes, in that same window in the upper left corner is the green icon of studio clip you can Give it a clip and access the program without having to enter the account, and if you do not want to re-enter you must put the option to remember your password so that it does not ask you again, but as I told you that activation is not for the program but to download brushes . I also have the windows version and I got it at a discount for 35 dollars a long time ago and I have it updated, there will always be a first tab of news and management which you can ignore after giving a clip to the program icon or your recent work that they will load right there.
I am try it on Samsung tab 6 lite and to be honest I don't like it , its try to be a pc version on tablet and forget the device is not a pc . I have heavy Machin pc and surface pro 6 using photoshop on both ( digital paint and photograph as hobby) but want a tablet for easy of use and long battery on the go . not need another keyboard and tiny tiny interface that i cant see !! disappointment . thank you for your amazing and honest reviews
Apparently Samsung bought an exclusive (the released it as part of the Samsung S7) -- IDK how long it will last, but I suspect for 6 months, because that's how long you can try it on the S7 for free...
great for a 13 inch screen. But if you have a 10-11 inch screen, it looks very massive. With all these tool bars, you have a drawing area like an iPad mini. I think so
I agree, though there are many ways in which you can customize the UI to make it take up less screen real estate. You can create pop up palettes for instance, or create a toolbox with your most used stuff (Quick Access). Personally, I like to have some thing open permanently on my iPad Pro, but you can in fact make it almost as minimal as procreate. You just need to push on more buttons to open stuff, which I find slows me down more. I guess it is personal preference. It took me quite some time to find the right setup on the ipad, but now I find it is the most efficient of all art apps for me.
I wonder if you can get it to have the same simple interface as it does on phones. I enjoyed using the sliders on it and it was surprisingly easy to find the tools I needed.
It's depend on how do you customize ui. I have a friend use csp on ipad mini just fine, but I'm not. I have iPad pro 12.9 and base on my workspace, drawing space is a little small and I hope one day Apple release ipad pro 15 or Macbook pro 15 with touchscreen and support pen.
Can you run the clip studio phone interface on the tab s7(+)? I like the simplicity of it on the phone and it would give more space for drawing. I don't know if it detects the device running it or if the one in samsung shop is different than the pre installed clip studio on the tab s7.
Awesome breakdown! I'm currently thinking of getting a mobile tablet to use when not at home. I currently have an XP-Pen Innovator 16 and I Love it! However I can only use it when it's hooked to my laptop. I know iPad pro's tend to be the best in the market, but I just want something to use Clip Studio Paint on and the Galaxy S7 Fe 5G caught my eye. i know Your vid is on the Tab S7+, but could You tell me if You know what the limit of layers are with this device? (because I tend to use LOTS of layers)
when I try to log in using my tab s7 with my account that has the licence key I can't since it keeps saying it doesn't have a serial key are something.. I managed to do it on my laptop which hold the same account but I don't know.
0:22 May I ask which of those drawing apps is the easiest to use ? The clip studio seems really complicated for me and I'd really like to find an easier one to get started
10:42 I have the same problem, when changing the scale or rotating an object there is quite an annoying lag, does the current CSP version still experience lag on the Samsung Tab S7+?
@@teohyc I don't think so. Brad Colbow put it on a Samsung Tab 6 LITE and seemed to indicate the 1 hour free thing was for any Samsung Device. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qW7lcolxte4.html
Im a beginner digital artist and i was looking a new tablet, ipad pro or a samsung s7+.. lots of people use pro for the apple pencil i think cuz all they say is how good and realistic the pencil is. but i think the s pen is better and maybe the pro might be a little better but because of the money difference and and the fact that the s7+ comes with the s pen :) s7+ is a better choice. after i found out all these i was looking for an app and procreate was a tough choice. everyone was talking about it so i research it for a while. its a really great app but its for ios so i was lost again with choosing the right tablet, s7+ or a pro.. i think im gonna go with s7+, ibis paint, clip studio are really great apps and i enjoyed watching the video.. thanks for reading xx
Clip Studio Paint (subscription-based) on Android can draw whatever Procreate can draw. It's just the workflow that's different. If you haven't purchase Samsung Tab S7+. Note that the battery life isn't that good. It's just 7 hours with auto-brightness. If you don't mind a smaller display, Tab S7 have 12-14 hours battery life. Another option is to look at Apple website's refurbished section, and look for the 2020 iPad Pro models which are 15% off their official launch price. For displays 12-inches and larger. It's either 12.9-inch iPad Pro vs Samsung Tab S7+
Hmm i am curious how can you make the shortcut with bluetooth keyboard work? mine doesnt work with bluetooth keyboard,The app doesnt recognize my keyboard at all i am using galaxy s6 tab lite
CSP Tabmate works with both Android and IOS, so get that thing for better flow. It's wonderful on dekstop, so hopefully will match over well on S7 and ipad too!
Hi Teoh, I'm curious to get your opinion regarding the workflow efficiency of a tablet vs a graphics display? I currently own an Innovator 16 for animating but i'd also like to design characters & backgrounds whilst lounging around & potentially at another house. I just can't decide If I should invest in tablet or a laptop of similar value to use with my display. After watching many of your reviews I don't think I can go wrong either way but i'm still not 100% confident deciding & would value your input! What would you do?
Choose base on the work you are doing. If you already can animate on the Innovator 16, I don't see why you'll need a tablet to do the same thing. You can animate on a tablet, sure, but the main selling point is the portability.
