I have been watching NHL games since 1975. I have watched thousands and thousands of games. I have never seen anyone like Mcdavid. Gretzky is the man, the GOAT (right now) but McDavid may end up being right up there, he is the most skilled player I have ever seen. No one is close.

I’ve been watching since 06 & I must say, Mcdavid brings an element to the game that no other player brings. They talk about his speed, but his agility is out of this world. He has very high Iq even when in his rookie year. I’m can see him getting 5 rings.

@@cashvolpe4775 why not? On paper that team is literally The Most stacked team in the nhl. It’s literally an all star team, I can see them doing what Stl did in 2019 & winning it all. That’ll give ‘em more confidence to do a back to back cup run

Only watching hockey since early 90s. When I watched Jagr, Sakic, Bure, Foresberg, Datsyuk, I was so impressed at their ability to score pts. McDavid is the only player I've seen when they have a 2 pt night, i think its a bad night. He's so good it feels like he should have 5-7 pts a night. When he only achieves what other greats accomplish, I'm disappointed. I'm spoiled.

He was only on pace to score 87 points in his rookie season if he played a full 82 game schedule so it's very unlikely. He played 45 games at 1.066 ppg. He would have needed to play the remaining 37 games at 1.405 ppg which he obviously didn't have in him that season going by the games he did play.
@MrCanadianhero

@@MrCanadianhero I said it was very unlikely and no, there is no way to know but there is no evidence to think it may have happened. All we know is that before he was injured he played 13 games at .923 ppg and played 32 games after his injury at 1.125 ppg. As I said, he needed to play the other 37 games at 1.405 ppg. His best six game stretch of the season was his first six games back from injury where he scored 12 points, then he scored 5 points in the next 8 games. He scored 3 points in the last 4 games before injury, and he scored 3 points in his last 4 games of the season. All I'm saying is there is no evidence that says we would have scored 100 points so it is very unlikely to have happened. I'm just going by the reality of what actually happened.

I think you have things reversed. The game today is so much easier for the top players. The rules help them so much now. Even though the game is faster now, it would actually be easier for Wayne and Mario today than when they played because they would also be faster than they were plus have the advantages of the different rules. No matter if they scored more, less or equal, the game would be easier for them today. They played in the roughest era. Today it's just pussy hockey compared to back then.

@@JOK3RC4RDx Because of the insane speed nowadays with no red line off side. Players just take explosive short shifts. Back in the 80's 2 min was common because of the slow tempo of the game. Also in the middle of the 80's the trend towards shorter shift started to occur with the "short shift game" 1 minute shifts and less began to trend around the league. Go further back than that and they didnt even have 4 lines. 3 were the standard. Everything nowadays is speed and it is the fastest the game has ever been and McDavid represents the new game perfectly. NHL is not what it used to be. Honestly, with his combination of absolute peak, elite skill, talent, and hockey IQ, it's not so crazy to say he just might be the best we've ever seen on the ice. I know it's brought up a ton, but the overall talent of the League now is lightyears ahead of where it was decades ago, not to mention just how much better goalies are in general. I think the argument could be made that you could put Mcdavid literally any era of hockey and he would still completely dominate in the same way, while I'm not sure the same can be said for other legends of the game.

Mounts the biggest comeback in the finals since 1945(79 years), breaks the assists record. Only to lose 2-1 in game 7. Don't give me that regular season hero bullshit either. He has a higher points per game in the playoffs. Lemieux has 1.61 points per game in his career playoffs, McDavid has 1.58. He is not that far off. I think McDavid will go down as the greatest hockey player of all time. There is no one doing what he is doing imo. Hopefully he can get a cup, otherwise well, there may not be an argument for that ahaha

McDavid is not a winner yet. Many greats had to learn to sacrifice offense to win. Last game goalie out the opposition turned it over deep. 4 Oilers were quickly leaving the zone for the empty net. They then turned the puck over. Time to play it safe and learn a style that wins in April. 97 and 29 cannot win playing 25 mins a night.

Tell me you don’t comprehend advance stats without telling me you don’t comprehend advanced stats lol…the puck stays out of the net more when McDavid is on the ice and it’s a result of HIM, full stop. He’s the best player in the NHL today period, no need for the backhanded comment because you’re a leaf fan and he’s not playing for your team.

Gretzky and Lemieux were infinitely superior. Hockey isn't just about skills, otherwise Alex Kovalev would have been a God. Young people don't understand the concept of hockey IQ, the sense of anticipation and the overall vision of the game. The gap between Gretzky and his peers was infinitely greater than that of McDavid with his contemporaries.

Yeah current market is way tougher to get into and be at top of the pack. I've watched Mario, Gretzky and mcdavid and those round out top 3..but I'm not crazy enough to think you can actually compare them when it's impossible. All we can agree on is Mario's career was cut short.
@maitrehg

@@dana102083 More difficult today? Imagine for a moment Gretzky with modern training methods and equipment. In hockey without hooking, without red lines and in 3 vs 3 overtime. Insane!

@@maitrehg its easier to read the game when its slow. Gretzky and Lemieux also had much more time on the ice because the game was not as intense as today. How can you even compare hockey IQ of entire different sports?
