There's a big new update for Lightroom Classic and we're going to take a look at the big new feature, Generative ai. This is a lot like what we've seen in Photoshop but with some small differences. Let's look at how easy it is to use, how to remove distracting elements from your photos and just how it works. It's Tutorial Tuesday.

The Generative AI works well and would save time from doing the equivalent in Photoshop. However, in the case of the grass slightly covering the face of the animal I like the original better. Thanks for the demo.

Thanks Gareth - I was shown this in the Lightroom Virtual Summit 10 days ago and have tried it on a handful of images. I like it for two reasons: 1 - I don't like using Photoshop because it's too complex (therefore scary) for my simple skills-set (and mind) and 2 - I don't like to do too much editing to any image because, like you, I want to keep the image pretty well as that which I saw and captured. I'm certainly going to use it where there are distractions such as in some shots I took of a preserved steam railway with the wire fence or an electricity pylon in the image and where I have previously cropped in more than I wanted to avoid distractions in a scene (usually people) because it will be much easier to remove those distractions. Keep it up!

Tried it this week on an intruding branch and was amazed how good it worked. Having it in LR is a big plus for me. I have no issue with taking things out, but I will not add things in/swap skies etc. Not saying others shouldn't, but that degree of manipulation is not for me. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent video as usual, thanks. Keep your eyes on LR mobile & Web (moving faster). iPad LR will zoom ahead soon..................?

Thanks for the demonstration. /// AI is certainly an issue and makes us consider where our photographic boundaries lie. /// AI (as demonstrated) feeds those looking for perfection which, depending on your point of view, may either be a good or bad thing.

As ever, excellent update and just been trying this out. Can be frustrating but once you know how, it works fine. More please 👍👏

Excellent tutorial, thank you. I’ve actually seen another video discussing the same but it was said that the early access AI feature was going to be a paid extra in the future, have you heard the same?

I saw similar results (also shared in my YT video) For simple things, it's OK. It will improve over time for sure.

As an amateur photographer, I use Lightroom Classic to make enhancements to my photos. Hopefully, the program makes my photos look a little better, but still reflects my memories. However, I try not to alter them such that the photo doesn’t replicate what I saw with my eyes. I’m not sure where the line should be drawn, but I don’t like the idea of creating something that truly didn’t exist when I took the photo. I don’t think professional photographers will have that luxury. They will be under tremendous pressure to make everything perfect and even better than that for demanding customers. I don’t know how they will be able to compete with AI that has no conscience and will create anything whether real or fake.

I too am an amateur Katman042 and I take photos to please me or to remind me of something I've seen or visited, never to please a client. That means I can ensure that the "improvements" don't overshadow the original image. As you say, the world of te hprofessional photographer is becoming ever more pressurised. I imagine that is most true for those doing wedding shoots.

AI is okay so long as the photographer discloses that it was used.
