HOW GOOD IS LAST EPOCH?? - Last Epoch 

Offline Mode is absolutely AWESOME. I wish more people would talk about how fucking awesome it is that they included this. Just the principle of it - being able to play the game you bought fully offline on your own hardware? It's just common sense. So fucking good.

LE is what I had hoped D4 would have been. "Easy to play hard to master."

The game is very impressive to me. I agree that it delivers on what I want an arpg to be.

I've been playing this game without a guide and I've been having a blast, playing necromancer summoner. Focusing only on having as many minions as possible and so far my build hasn't let me down. The build just works.

I liked this breakdown. I'm a casual gamer who used to be a hardcore gamer many years ago so I'm stuck in between. It's overwhelming because I don't have time to figure out how to minmax things and optimize my build but my character kind of still blows stuff up and I enjoy it :) But it's frustrating because I feel clueless. You broke it down perfectly

I only put 110 ish hours pre launch into LE and it is an amazing game.

Great review, tackled all of the main points honestly. There's just a few nuts and bolts to tighten, and then just start adding more varied content particularly for endgame and this game has a bright future.

Great review as always. I hope they don't overcomplicate the game or make it too hard in the future updates. (like PoE). I love how you can make stuff work figuring out things by yourself with the occasional reference lookup. The crafting system is also very accessible and fun without needing to study a month. Great SSF game at this point.

I absolutely love the tuning. If you study the change logs on abilities you can see how this team literally spent SO MUCH TIME tuning everything to make it everything feel "good"

Amazing review! :) I personally love COF so much and really hope POE adds a COF mode.

Good take overall, and well put. I share many of the concerns you voice, but also feel it's a great start overall. One nit: trade has NOT been well received by many. One long-term player and RU-vidr described the trade system that launched with 1.0 as a "quit the game simulator," and it's not hard to see why, given that it's klunky to use and has artificial barriers that restrict the number of buyers and sellers in oddly mismatched ways, producing some economic results that are hilariously bad. Tenkiei is the creator in question, and I recommend his video on the trade system for context.

It’s a good start that’s for sure it has a bright future with the future seasons let’s hope they add some fun mechanics inside monoliths and good bosses

While I technically agree that there are no ~1k times more powerful/tanky outliers, there are definitely some close ones (even ignoring the best ward abusers). Don't want to spoil but my friends was doing something they came up with themselves and we did manage to salvage it, but it was roughly 10-50 times weaker than the build I was doing damage wise, on top of its scaling clearly tapering off due to limited scaling options. It didn't even feel that good on my end because it just felt like I cheated. One of the nodes in my skill tree was effectively 1 point investment for a 2.5+ "more" dmg multiplier, when usually those nodes are max 1.15 mult per point, and then another 3 nodes turned defensive affixes into having a damage contribution with roughly 3 points for another 2.0+ "more" dmg multiplier. Thankfully, because the differences were sub 50x, this can all be overcome with grinding for more gear if you are a weaker build, but it still feels bad. Hopefully as time goes on they have it so all builds have the support that the 90th percentile builds have atm. The main "feeling" benchmark is that when you hit your stride 60-70 you are crushing monoliths, and can smoothly transition to empowered after maybe like 1 day worth of gearing up and fixing your defenses. The sub 50th percentile builds currently feel pretty bad, and the boss fights take a ridiculous amount of time since they are tuned for the dps of the well supported builds.

If we're talking about diablo-like games, I'll never miss Kripp's review of the genre.

It’s truly just an enjoyable game. Very rarely do I play a game these days that I fiend to keep playing, and this one has definitely done that for me. Really looking forward to playing more characters too

Should note that most builds have like 3ish uniques (that you can target farm) that support or enable the build and you fill out the rest of the slots with affixed gear that is highly modifiable.

I stopped having fun on my blade dancer rogue around 80 - - open to new build ideas for my first alt character, I can't determine if it was the character I burnt out on or the monolith system so I figured give it another shot before writing it off

For me it's a 77/100 right now. A lot of fun. Great to see a game that can over time maybe compete with POE.

As someone who plays HC, Diablo 4 left me wanting more of a challenge, and Last Epoch has been good fun for me so far!

Auction house need to fix for search filter is pretty hard to use at current moment My suggestion add loot filter (which is excellent) to Auction House filter.

What arpg launched with a good endgame? Just curious because I'm wondering what people expect from a game on launch.

Been playing a bit pretty casually. Im lvl 65 now with my makeshift spin to win paladin build and it works quite well. My concern mainly now is that through the monolith system it does feel pretty repetitive. The mobs are more difficult to deal with but still feels like im just spinning around mob grinding the whole time and there isn't really any difficulty outside of that. My build might not be optimized since bosses do take significantly longer to kill than the regular mobs due to the procs and such that don't proc at all during those fights. As an example, on death procs or explosions and so forth that scale with the extra %dmg that my main bleeds/ignite and my main ability dmg scales from would basically 1 shot trash but aren't available during boss fights. But so far they aren't difficult, they just take longer to do.

As you said it doesn't matter what build you use unless you play competitively, Like I'm hearing lich is the best or some of the rogues builds I just enjoy chilling my enemies with my primalist build feels pretty strong enough to me I'm really glad you pointing out that, I've tried void knight and warlock also, they do feel fun also in their own way which is a very important thing in these games, satisfaction and fun, not totally build reliable

i think the ward mechanic is pretty good, there was a loop hole were you could pump ward to a point (16bit) were the integer broke and switched to negative numbers, its fixed now

In a few years with enough depth of endgame and cycles (leagues) poe2 should be worried 😂 competition is good !

9:26 exactly! Emperor of Corpses dragon boss literally killed me with yet to be cast breath, then breath animation after I'm dead. Happened about 4 times now, it's hideously unfair.

Kripp, if you haven't tried it yet...Melee Detonating arrow/Trap Marksman is OP Epic, and so fun!

It's a 9.5/10 from me. You don't need a 3rd party program just to figure out a build like in PoE yet it plays just like PoE. Fantastic build diversity and just having a blast playing it.

Someone finally made a ARPG that rewards solo players instead of penalizing them. LE is an absolute gem. The crafting is some of the most fun I have ever had in any game. True Offline mode FINALLY! Defense actually matters. Near unlimited stash space with in game gold. My only minor complaints are that 1. cosmetics dont work offline but I can live without that. 2. I would like to buy a tab for keys and one for every unique and they would work offline. I plan to support this game for a long time.

LE is an ARPG that feels good to play and figure out without looking up guides. The balance is good enough that a player can do trial and error without feeling garbage.

8.5 out of 10 is definitely deserved. It's such a great game. I can't get enough of it.

Should also add Offline mode is awesome. I’ve been playing on my Steam Deck on my train commute into work. Although LE isn’t fully supported on the Deck yet, it runs decently - just some builds that require precise targeting won’t work well because the controller targeting isn’t nearly as good as on the PC. For instance, a Fire Wraith build won’t work well on the Deck because your Wraiths go all over the place and slapping a life drain onto them is very much hit or miss. Hopefully the Deck support improves in the future.

Anyone else not having health over your char anymore in Offline mode? :( Haven't had for days after that last update. God damn it, it's super annoying!

I do agree its way more towards PoE than D4, not inbetween - even as a PoE player i have to sit down and try to figure out, i honestly don't whenever i've ever played D4.

Okay if you haven’t played this game yet and want to know how good it is from someone who’s just an average dude. My GPU broke 3 days after 1.0 and currently am waiting for a replacement before I can play again. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the character I was building ever since.

Other than D2, I never really got into ARPGs. Last Epoch has got me though. There are tons of builds and unless you do something stupid with your talents or skills then it’ll work well enough. There are a couple of builds that are kind of broken, like hammerdin or strength beast master. Overall a great game with even more potential 8/10

One thing to note is that you can't go online with a VPN on with the game. The game world will be stuck on the loading screen indefinitely.

LE was much, much more fun than I thought it would be. I am very happy with the value. I look forward to their cycles. Then I can jump between PoE1, PoE2, and LE. And never think about D4 again.

In terms of depth / complexity, the only game that came close to PoE was Grim Dawn. However that runs on an outdated tech, and it makes me so happy that there is another game with modern tech now that I can play.

Im 30 hours in, level 55, loving everybit of it. It's relaxing, stressfree, good class vareity, ambient music needs a little more oomf, storyline seems decent but can be a little hard to follow at times so i just did a youtube check on the story and lore before continuing the campaign to get a better understanding. Game is still a little buffy at times though mostly trying to get in. Items don't quite make sense about what is better, found a level 35 orange 2 hander that seems stronger than a 50 purple.

I LOVE YOU KRIPPARRIAN!!! Much respect to you and all you've done for the ARPG community over the years. Last Epoch is the best ARPG I've ever played and I've played them all. I like the idea behind PoE and Last Epoch makes that idea come to life but without the insane levels of difficulty (the difficulty is the gameplay itself but with character builds). I'm hoping PoE2 refines a lot of things while keeping boss fights interesting because I really want to have Last Epoch and PoE2 to play for years to come.

Good game with a story/campaign I don't really care about. D4 has amazing cinematics, visuals and universe (arguable if its executed properly) but I Last Epoch has deeper systems and is overall the better game

Agreed! Highly recommend worth trying and playing this game. Very much worth the money and it 'feels' very unique when played compared to the other ARPG's. You won't be disappointed!!

Can anyone tell me how multiplayer works? I dont have friends to play with Is It easy to hook up with randos?

I've played many ARPGs and idk what it is about last epoch, but I played it for 36hours in beta which isn't alot by any means, then after launch 1.0 u put 70 hours right away! It's so fun to play, after d4 and poe, I felt like making my own build was awesome! Finding so many uniques to play different ways, crafting my items was so much fun, and when playing with friends worked it was even better. Really love LE and I hope they continue to improve and update it. I think it's here to stay.
