It's funny how Mario Kart 8 has a mechanic that was from another racing franchise from Nintendo, but there's not one track in all 96 tracks of the game that has an anti gravity pipe or cylinder for you to race on where you can go fully upside down and then right side up again.
They even had this on rainbow road for mario kart ds. And they could have added it on 3DS Rainbow Road at the spinning boost panels near the end, but just did not 🤷 I guess the closest thing we have is how Mute City spirals upwards, but you don't really feel it when driving
@@Shortcat321 I'm honestly disappointed they didn't add that to 3DS Rainbow Road. I've even tried to go inverted on that pipe section a couple times, only to fall on my wheels as soon as I get halfway up the spinning pipe. 😆😆😆
Good races! 20:14 I've played Mario Kart 8 for a decade and never knew there was terrain priority in this game. It makes sense now, but I always assumed that part of Twisted Mansion still had underwater physics.
i recently played with lowest traction.. and yea, it’s so hard to get a map where it matters. This is why people that say “skill issue” when you can’t succeed on a bad combo like that, don’t actually know how the game works!! it’s 100% not worth focusing on one stat unless it’s speed or MT. The amount of maps that it just DOESNT matter how high your anti gravity or glider speed is, is crazy. It’s almost every map in the game (except maybe alpine pass which has a massive glider section that takes up half the map, maybe that) If you wanna win, play meta or something close. Villager Ink striker, Inkling Scooty, Yoshi Scooty etc. Helps you get used to the muscle memory & not messing with your timing of the MTs. If you’re a good player, just play what you want lmao
After watching the rest of the video, he got SOOO lucky for like 90% of these races. Yes he’s super good at the game (with the exception of that shy guy falls run lol) but the amount of times he was conveniently holding a mushroom in first or barely rolled a horn is still pretty lucky
I don't even have a Nintendo Switch, nor have I played any mario kart seriously beyond the SNES... Yet I find myself coming back to Shortcat's videos. They are a fun watch.
Shortcat not sure if you know, but if you use the coinniyem right as the blue shell tilts towards you to hit you, you can time it to use the coin right as the shell hits so you only lose one coin

Hey Shortcat, i used the stats chart you provided on an earlier video to create the worst possible combination. It consists of the heaviest character with the worst Speed + MT sum, Petey Piranha. The heaviest kart that has the worst Speed + MT, the 2nd worst Accel + AGS and an enormous hitbox, the Tri-speeder. It also has monster wheels to make the hitbox even bigger, kill it's handling + accel and reduce visibility. Finally it has the Ancient Glider as it has the worst stats of any glider and the fact that it fits well with the colourscheme. Overall the combo looks super sexy and is genuinely infinitely more awful than Bowser Badwagon. It seems to perform much worse in 150cc than 200cc as it is so slow that it can't even drift after getting hit and especially after getting shocked. It has a fighting chance on any map with slippy surfaces but yeah traction is it's only redeeming quality. Give it a go! I'd recommend a custom game with: triple bananas, triple greens, triple mushrooms, fire flower, shock, piranha plant. I almost broke my controller doing this👍
I love how all of a sudden anti-gravity is the most important thing to shortcat even though he knows it doesn’t make that much of a difference in the long run
I really didn't know that about the max mini-turbo + speed cap, that could be increased by counting the other speed stats instead. Whether or not this means different combos exist Max speed wise vs. Max speed bonus, which whould mean on a track like Alpine Pass (Rock Rock Mountain) max bonus is more important.
I honestly think nintendo should add a longer boost timing from when you bump into someone on anti gravity parts, such as the lowest anti gravity combo will have a smaller boost time and the most anti gravity combo should have longer than the normal boost gained from bumping into someone, so anti gravity stat will become more useful than before.
Yo Shortcat, if you want access to some truly useless stats I've actually spent the time marking down exactly how much time each track spends on ground, anti-gravity, glider, and underwater in a very messy spreadsheet that I haven't gone public with. So like I can say that your estimate at 5:23 isn't super far off, regular ground is actually 73.6% of the game. Would you be interested in the full sheet?

Ok, so for fun I decided to try to use this combo during my grind to complete 200cc, and I kid you not, it immediately helped me win the three stars for the Flower Cup, which I had been struggling with for a while And they weren’t close 1st’s or anything, in all 4 races I won with a very comfortable lead TL;DR: Max anti-gravity combo clears, thanks Shortcat!
It sure devestated the cubing community when you switched to uploading more stiff here than JPerm, but it sounds like you are much happier doing this than any cubing video of yours. Thanks for the cubing tutorials and keep doing what you're doing!
when u were talking abt ur kart parts on dk jungle, i think its worth noting that inkstriker has mach 8 stats - it def feels to me like they wanted the 'iconic' vehicle of mk8 to just absolutely shred everywhere. its air and water speed are great too
I hope Mario Kart 9 gives you the option to see the hidden stats like anti-gravity, underwater, mini turbo etc. Being able to see those analytics would definitely influence my kart combo choices!!
Hey shortcat I found a new technique called “hyper glider” Now here’s the thing with this, it’s amazing because you can do this with the cannon glider trick and it can make a difference, this combines glider vectoring, motion controls, and the d-pad, let me explain first off it’s impossible without motion controls on just know that okay, to this have motion controls on, now use glider vectoring and point the left stick at a 45 degree right or left doesn’t matter and now remember when I said the d-pad comes in handy, well here it is ( motion controls on, left stitch 45 degrees, tilt your controller at 45 degrees and finally this is the hard part, get your other hand and use that to use the d-pad, apparently it triple stacks which is why it’s called “hyper glider since “super glider” is already a thing when you're tilting the controller at 45 degrees at the left (also the left stick at 45 degrees to the left do the same thing if you're going to the right) you want to get your other hand to hold the down arrow and the right arrow for a diagonal, if you want to practice this then feel free to go to time trials (Electrodom) and keep doing it over and over again tilt your master it afterward touch some grass and destroy your friends online Edit: instead of me explaining the whole thing let the video do the talking, (it’s called “hyper glider in Mario Kart”
