@@Shortcat321idea for next video. Mario kart but I wait 5 seconds at the start of each lap. This is different than the normal wait at the start because now, you have to be 5 seconds ahead each lap instead of catching up 30 seconds. Can get progressively longer too.
I wish that the weight stat made you more or less resistant to projectiles. For example with a min weight stat a red shell would knock you out for 2 seconds, but with maxed weight it would only be 1 second. Something like that. It would give weight much more importance, and it could essentially function as the opposite of acceleration. acceleration gives you faster recovery, whereas weight would lower the downtime.
Others have suggested a similar idea for the invincibility stat. I think it makes more sense there! I think weight could have other uses like differences in gliding, fall speed, and vehicle size (right now there are 3 vehicle "weight classes" that determine size, but it has nothing to do with the weight stat)
7:54 this whole sequence is just brutal. He gets hit, mushrooms to recover and uses his star to perfectly time a shock dodge, which he chained to get a boo. The blue shell shows up behind him and he uses his boo in fourth so he had a 1/3 chance to steal first place’s super horn, which he managed to get. After that, he made a push for first place and won without getting hit by the line of bananas and the person in a star. Truly a Baby Park worthy moment.
You make a good point about stats being "clustered" like acceleration and weight always being opposite. Some of the old MK games had more interesting stat lines, I remember in DS Luigi had both high speed AND acceleration but low handling and weight, making it super unique to control.
Yeah I really wish they would do that sort of thing with the stuff in this game, with the part combining system it would make for so much build variety. There are only really two examples I can think of, those being the slims which are speed tires but also have high handling, and the splat buggy being relatively high speed but also low weight, but by and large it’s MT accel and handling grouped together, or speed and weight grouped together, which is a shame
The thing with this combo is that you effectively have a classic muscle car. Fast in a straight line, weak around corners. To counter act this you need to drift earlier and not do anything fancy. These setups work in the low level because you can just use the speed to run away. The higher the lobby they fall off as players can use advanced techniques to compensate for lack of speed.
Actually, if you look at the minimap, you can see Luigi spinning out before getting by the blue shell and later you can see him driving through the blue's explosion because he had I-frames. I don't think this is entirely luck on the Luigi player's part though, because he never got chased by anything besides the blue shell in the cannon, meaning they probably saw like a banana or something lying around and ran into it for the I-frames.
I did a small project where I ranked each vehicle part and character on versatility (after looking at stats) and bone rattler ended up coming dead last
Thank you for your uploads :) I've learned so much more about MK8 from your videos and I really like your overall positivity! It made me realize that getting mariokarted is actually pretty hilarious and nothing to be mad about 😂
I went to a MK8 Tourney yesterday and used your Old Main with B.Rosa ,Bidy and whatnot, I lost but I had a great time and did better than I thought I could, thanks for the great content
Have you tried Baby Rosalina, The Duke, Monster Tires, and Wario Wing? It greatly increases your speed, and from what I can tell, maintains a mini turbo similar to Rosalina, Mr Scooty, Roller Tires, and Paper Glider. That build I found to be pretty fun too.
Hey shortcat I love your vids, I’m actually training for Mario kart to beat my teacher and you don’t even understand how much you’ve helped me improved!
I ran a similar build in F-Zero X. It was... a fun gimmick. And the stat was more useful. Instead of just improving your bump interactions, weight actually helped you damage other vehicles when slamming into them. And if a vehicles health bottoms out, it doesn't just get put back on the track. It doesn't get to finish the race. So out of 30 racers, I would often finish like 6th to 12th. And you might have something like 12 cars finish the race. I made notes of anybody that was ahead of me in the rankings so I would be sure to smash them to bits the next race, which would basically neutralize them as an actual threat. Optimal play? Absolutely not. But It was really fun to have a racing game strategy that wasn't just "cross the finish line first."
I learned from my friends a long time ago. Max acceleration trumps everything. Doesn’t matter how many time you get hit, you’ll hit top speed and be in at least 2nd everytime.
Hi shortcat! love your videos. I was wondering when you were going to do the intermediate guide. Also, I would personally love collabs with other creators or more competitive mk8d. Keep up the good work!
For those trying low handling builds, you will need to employ typical racing lines in order to make it around tighter corners. That is to say, when approaching a sharp right turn, make sure you are as far to the left as possible before the turn. Then, guide your kart to the right into almost hitting the inside corner of the turn, and after that, exit the turn on the far left. By doing this, you can soften the curve of a turn, therefore making it easier to maintain speed around otherwise tough corners. You can see Shortcat employing this on Baby Park. He starts on the left of each turn, goes near the right-side barrier halfway through, and pulls out to the left. This is typically not often useful in Mario Kart, but is critical in more intense racing games.
@@bubba7598 Honestly, Shortcat was the only thing that convinced me to go for something other than top speed, so I agree. My typical racing philosophy is, "If I fail, I want it to be because I screwed up, not because the car couldn't outrun other cars."
I always love when you get that one vehicle or character in any game where a single stat is so ridiculously overinflated that it’s near, or even outright at max. Like I play Ace Combat 7, most aircraft will top out at around… 1000? DarkStar with maxed speed upgrades easily exceeds 3000, it’s comical.
Been enjoying your weird stat tries, maybe you could also do some viewer submitted ideas for videos? If you do do this, my main combo and suggestion is: Rosalina (character) Flame Rider (bike frame) Crimson Slim (Wheels) Paper Glider (Glider)
That combo sounds pretty interesting! I think I might try it! Here's what I've been running recently. Baby Rosalina -The Duke -Monster Tires -Wario Wing You should give it a try! I find it pretty fun.
This combo seems really fun, even if you have to play _very_ differently from how you might be used to. As someone who loves playing big heavy characters in games, I think this is something I should keep in my rotation for fun races, maybe even practice with it a little more than others to get better at it.
You should try making a video about just playing with a bunch of other MK8D youtubers and using really stupid custom items (blue shells only, for example)
Fatcat out here trying to bully Yoshis! I've tried this combo and it is not easy to play (looks really cool, though). It controls like a tank! Any track with tight turns and places to fall off are a nightmare to play (like the Rainbow Roads).
Every since subscribing to Shortcat, I now wonder about the MT stat of my shopping cart at the grocery store...I see drifting opportunities on my way to work...I always have my eyes peeled for hidden shortcuts while running errands... it's not my fault!
If I see this combo more online, I'm blaming you Shortcat. Other than that, great video showing how important the weight stat can be without you even knowing. (I in fact, have way to many accounts of getting bumped offroad.)
This combo looks so cool though. It may not be a good combo but it gets A+ for the looks! Which is arguably more important. And we finally got Garfield the fatcat! Longcat is probably coming soon. The anti shortcat that takes the longest pathing!
K, I found the exact weight Looking at the GLA’s weights, we find it is half a bar of weight. This combo is 5.75 bars, so we multiply the GLA’s average weight (3551.5 pounds) by 11.5 (The amount of GLA’s to reach 5.75 bars) and we get 40842.25 pounds, a bit more than 20 tons. Heavyweights in real life would be the same as light weights, cus the lightest combo is like 6000 pounds still So yeah Mario kart weight is weird
You know Shortcat, you should make a video showcasing the All Gold Kart Build; you know, Gold Metal Mario, Golden Kart, Golden Wheels, Golden Glider. I think it would be a fun idea.
