His ability to get in is very linear so it's easy to spend most of a round "losing" with him but he has so much health that he can survive with a sliver very often and it almost doesn't feel like he's losing especially if he has meter because there's always that little voice in your head saying "I just need one touch" and then you get it and your opponent dies

as an asuka player, slayer is insanely terrifying. if he breaks your mana shield and has last horizon ready, that will one shot at any health

​@alfredomartinezmazuela9328 you mostly use green cubes in neutral, while rps'ing around mappa and IAD j.s with 6p. If you know what you're doing, slayer literally cannot get in unless asuka is caught off guard by super mappa, but even then if you aren't stupid you can just block it

I love Slayer but I do think some nerfs should happen specifically to k mappa and the bunker loops. The loops are inconsistent but they're always worth going for since the return is so high. He needs to remain a high damage character but currently it's too easy for him to run his gameplan unless you're fighting like, Testament bridget or axl.

I hate pilebunker loops in an 'old man yells at cloud' kinda way. I just want pilebunker to wall bounce midscreen again so I can keep doing 6h pilebunker. Which funny enough, would probably deal less damage then strive pilebunker loops.

I just think that slayer needs to harder to play if they want to give him such high damage since he just ruins the lower tower floors, my friend who is HARD stuck on floor 2-3 can play at my level and im floor 7-8 but only as slayer. I think slayer is super cool i just wish he was more fun to play vs and didn't have so much health and damage

Fighting against him is pretty fun except for the ungodly amount of damage he deals. As an ABA player, I do feel a biy jealous (heh) that he gets to do moroha damage without having to build gauge first.

Fighting slayer feels like you’re defusing a bomb. You can spend over half the round chipping away at him, but one slip up or you get caught mashing, you get to watch your health disappear real time. Then it’s guess for game on wake up assuming you didn’t use wild assault or bursted from a stray hit. The act of trying to get rid of him as quickly as possible before he gets any form of offense going can be stressful but satisfying when you do. When you don’t, it seems like he almost steals the game away and it can become frustrating imo.

Another banger vid from LK. I'm having so much fun with Slayer. LK prob already knew this but didn't mention that in addition to his safejump he's got a safejab from his P buttons after using K Mappa to get in from pilebunker HKD. I like using it because if they block the 2P ill go for kara bite tic throw. Players just need to figure out the dandy step OS, 6P the mappa hunch, and keep him out if they want to beat him. That being said, I think he's perfect as is and is a strong character but just outside of top tier.

This is exactly what i’ve been saying. I play goldlewis and Johnny and the fact that slayer gets the same if not better damage as goldlewis is ridiculous. A good player knows that goldlewis has pretty slow buttons and he has a bunch of things that limit his ability to do damage. Slayer on the other hand gets one hit which isn’t as hard and then just gets that damage.

Not sure I agree. Until blood fills up, nago is way more mobile then slayer. And both have wwa to get in where slayer just has to mappa and prey. Further slayers defense blows big chunks. His backdash, once the defining trait of the character has been made just terrible here.

​@@Pandaman64 Both fukyo and WWA are resource dependent entry. Also, wdym Nago is more mobile? He has no air control other than j D. He can't even cross up with fukyo despite it being tied to a resource. Also, you can't complain about slayer defense when Goldlewis is being compared here. Thirdly, not only his reward just as good as those two, it's also always accessible with superior mix of left right.

@@HellecticMojo slayer defense is arguably worse. there shouldnt be a time where forward dash is just the better option in this game than backdashing. i agree this character is busted in every other aspect though. insane damage and mixup. wouldn't be shocked if they upped the scaling on pilebunker. its crazy that the classic 16 pilebunker xrd combo does way less damage than 3 of them

Goldlewis has Drone, j.D, and decently large pokes to handle neutral on top of even scarier pressure. In addition, his mix is similarly scary with plus high/low and the ability to turn any blocked Behemoth Typhoon into an f-shiki 50/50 (if the opponent is standing, which they have to when blocking the overheads). While he isn't as good at getting in as Slayer, he's better at keeping the opponent out and has even better reward once he gets in thanks to scarier pressure and mix. There are also quite a few benefits to having a slow run vs a step dash you can't cancel out of, such as being able to microdash when whiff punishing, dash blocking, etc. Nagoriyuki has more flexible grounded movement with Fukyo and one of the best advancing moves in the game in Beyblade, as well as incredible buttons for keeping the opponent out. In addition, he also has Clone > Fukyo as another incredible approach option. He also gets access to meterless, gapless 50/50s on top of an incredible command grab.

Not to same extent as Slayer and Johnny. Ino can dash FD (which fast falls), and can still block certain attacks pretty fast after dashing back or forward. And the dash can't be grabbed like Johnny and Slayer

Haven't seen winrates so High since pre-nerf HC, Slayer is sweeping almost every match-up. All my celestial friends myself included are losing morale with this game. Season 3 feels so degenerate.

As slayer, unless you get that round start hit into momentum it really feels like I'm losing all round until the sudden random mappa/dandy followup hit, I think people know a lot of slayers are just doing fake offense stuff so they are constantly challenging in gaps ( random PB seems to work too much cause of people countering other options lol) but that can make enforcing bite or dandy pressure hard sometimes. Probably a skill issue but I also feel like I cannot take to the air at all tbh. But the damage and HP tho :)

Frame trapping fs into 5h has gotten me to celestial in a weekend after not playing since launch. He definitely feels like a noob killer then once you get to players with actual fundies and D he rapidly falls off.

Pretty much the best comment. Everyone casual complains about him and says nerf mappa hunch, nerf dandy step, etc. But once players are smarter and patient and keep him in the range where mappa isn’t plus he can’t really get anything started.

Really good. Haven't even watched the video, I know how this goes, he is a character that turns minor mistakes into near TODs, his 2H is a war crime, he has dirty fucking set play and some of the cheapest tools currently in the game I sweeeear if another person pulls up with "Well, erm, if we ignore the damage 🤓🤓" no, if he delt reasonable damage he'd be still very good get the fuck out

A lot of people seem to think Slayer is overtuned, while I agree he shits out damage and builds easy RISK, those are only SlayerS pros, what makes a character Top tier in Strive? Let's discuss Slayer. He has all that I mentioned before, along with decent mix with a command grab and easy access to plus frames. But, his movement is below average at best, his step dash Sucks for movement and CAN'T be canceled into blocking or be kara canceled regularly, his air buttons aren't great, and hes has a tall hurtbox. His defense is also not good. He has no mash button faster than 5 frames, and his backdash is downright miserable to use. Mappa hunch has a long startup and is 6pable on reaction and on top of that his mix up has counter play. Now let's discuss May! She has ALL of Slayers pros, shiting damage, and risk building. She has decent mixup and a command grab along with the best lariat in the game (7 frames). HOWEVER, she also has very fast movement, a standard backdash with a fantastic jump and fall speed. She has incredible jump buttons(j.s and j.h) and a 4 frame mash button. She has a small hurtbox, 8-way mix on knockdown, very disjointed buttons, a projectile, and a reversal that gives true 50/50 with 100 meter, the list goes on. Her only weakness was her inability to have long distance confirms, but with WA thats GONE TOO. Slayer is not Top tier. To be top in strive, your character has to be practically flawless, with little to no obvious weaknesses, ya'know... like May, or Goldlewis, or Leo, or Nago. Slayer has real weaknesses that aren't compensated for by other things in his kit. Therefore, he is high tier at best.

I'm very inclined to agree. Especially once higher tier play comes into the picture, a good match-up spread is very important and compared to Leo or May, Slayer definitely seems to struggle against some characters in my experience. Disjointed and long horizontal moves really mess him up, to the point where even Baiken (HKab) or I-No (HCL, thanks to his size and weird dash) really put a wrench in his plans. Lingering projectiles like note or Leo's booms force him into the air or let the enemy footsie into a place where they're comfortable poking. And not to make my distaste for Leo too obvious, but all his cross-ups start to grow meaningless again due to flashkick. Sure, Leo will just explode if you bait it, but would he really risk it without meter to RRC? (..I guess they often do, but that's on Leo players, not the character if they would simply pilot him defensively..)

Yeah this is very accurate, although one thing which I believe is incorrect is that 6ping mappa on reaction is not generally realistic. Most characters only get the above knee invuln on their 6ps on frame 4 and since the final possible active frame for k mappa is frame 19 this means it takes a 16 frame reaction to 6p it. This is not realistic for someone to do with any consistency in neutral.
