Lets agree to disagree. I have a 2018 lariat 3.5 ecoboost second gen with the 10 speed transmission and I don't even notice it shifting at all, extrmely smooth. I already put 4k plus miles on it and I'm excited every time I drive it.

Another cool feature of the second gen 3.5 ecoboost is that is has port fuel injection and direct injection, so the intake valves should stay cleaner.

Apparently you have not researched enough. The way these engines are set up, the blow-by goes all the way around and back through the intake to be burned again, which in turn cakes up on the backside of the intake valves. Check all of the videos and forums on this, before 20k miles the intake valves look like they have seen 150k+.
@MaxEffortSooner
@MaxEffortSooner 7 лет назад
***** apparently it's you that hasn't done the research. That is why they went to a dual fuel management system in the newer models the Gen II 3.5 liter EcoBoost. Having both direct and multi-port injection cures that problem while optimizing power. Now it will spray over the back of the valves and clean them off. By the way this is not just the ecoboost engine that has that problem it is all direct inject engines. It is a consequence of directly injecting fuel into the cylinder as opposed to injecting fuel in behind the intake valve.

I love it when people use the "no replacement for displacement arguement". Ummm, yes there is. It's called a turbo charger.
@FCFordLord
@FCFordLord 7 лет назад
Eldo Rado Have you driven a turbo vs non turbo of similar vehicle? Turbo adds power at high RPM's, but doesn't help when daily driving. I have a 6.2 diesel with 160hp/280tq, used to often drive a 7.3 turbo diesel with 275hp/525tq. With the 6.2, all the power is available almost from idle. With the 7.3, it was less powerful than the 6.2 until the turbo spooled up, which meant waiting a while with your foot down. Sure, adding the turbo is better than not having it at all, but it's not putting the power where it's really needed.
@eldorado5686
@eldorado5686 7 лет назад
FCFordLord I actually do have extensive experience in driving both the 5.0 liter v8 in the f150 and the 2.7 and 3.5 ecoboost v6's. The exact opposite what you are saying is true. The maximum torque in an Ecoboost comes on in lower rpms than it does in the 5.0 v8. That is why it's at the top of the food chain in the f150 lineup when it comes to maximum towing. Thats why it's so nice to drive in traffic. The turbos spool up so quickly and efficiently, you are gone from a stop before the v8 even has a chance to wind up.
@jjwatson858
@jjwatson858 7 лет назад
Eldo Rado you are correct them ecoboost make their max torque at like 3k rpm
@shyecjj
@shyecjj 7 лет назад
There isn't, it would be the same if you ran turbo's on a 8.1 it would be like 900tq easy @7-10 psi .So more displacement AND turbo = no replacement for displacement still stands.
@CJColvin
@CJColvin 7 лет назад
Eldo Rado But the Coyote V8 (as well as my 96 Ford F150 with 5.0L Windsor V8) will outlast the Ecoboost.
@R777-RLM
@R777-RLM 7 лет назад
Auto Vlog. You forgot to mention one of the most important updates for the 2nd Gen. Ecoboost, which is dual injection. It now has Direct Injection as well as Multi-Port Injection. This helps increase power and mileage, but most importantly, it should eliminate or decrease carbon build up on the intake valves, common on Direct Injected engines.
@dell051lt
@dell051lt 7 лет назад
It sounds deeper then the V8. A deeper growl. I have been conflicted on which engine to go with when I do purchase a F150. Im waiting for the 2018s before I plan to buy one. I compared the engine specs. Was surprised to see the V6 3.5 ecoboost has a much bigger pull over the V8, that V6 has more torque, and only being 10 horsepower less. Its does look like I will be getting a truck equipped with the 3.5 eco engine.

Baldwin Creative I had the 5.4 F150, the first 3.5 Ecoboost and now the 17 gen 2 Ecoboost. I drive the 5.0 as a work vehicle. The Gen2 is by far the best. The torque feel and mpg is worth it. It doesn’t sound like an old pushrod or anything but I have my Mustang for that.

Not saying these engines don't make power, they do, BUT did Ford fix the PCV issue yet? What about the fuel contamination in the engine oil problem? Did ford increase its recommended oil change interval yet? Did Ford fix the turbos' oil consumption yet, that lead to early o2 sensor and cat failures? Is the economy now anywhere close to the EPA estimates? In other news, did Ford fix the leaky optional power sliding rear window? Is Ford going back to a all steel box? Etc etc...

We have 2015 1 ton Ford Transit van with the 3.5 Ecoboost - BOTH turbos and timing chain out at 114,000 road miles. We are using our trusty 2003 GMC normally aspirated V6 van with 390,000 on it (never had a single engine or transmission problem) while I determine why Ford won't participate more than $1,500 in a $4,800 repair. Was convinced I was going to replace my 2008 Yukon (276,000 miles no engine or transmission issues) with a 2018 Expedition. Guess I'll have to rethink GM. Was told it was the Wastegate actuators on BOTH turbos. When I asked why they couldn't simply replace the actuators I was told that is not standard operating at a Ford shop. We also have a 2015 F150 with the 2.7 L Ecoboost and the light came on today. Getting it checked out tomorrow. The "Swiss Watch" nature of these little engines has become very pronounced in my mind. This is the Second of many posts I intend to make about one of Fords "better" ideas.

@trowhammerdespoilerofgalax2423
Yea that'd be amazing. When I bought I was unsure about V8 simplicity and sound or more power from the twin snails. I went with snails and am VERY happy knowing I have the most oomph I could get. That said if there were a 5.0 ecoboost I'd have passed on it. Not sure what sort of fuel economy it'd get but the downside is toooo much power, which in a truck that isn't pulling 13k daily is in my opinion way too much (it's not a race truck). Thumbs up for the new F150, cooled seats and my old man step out back that I try to hide regular use of :D

And that's why A: you never buy an ex demonstrator and B: dealers can't shift demonstrators.

vono360 I know someone who is one of the engineers of the Toyota Highlander production line, and they randomly pull ones off the end of the line, start them, and immediately rev it to redline and hold it there for several minutes. Then they put it back in with all the others. As for the Ford motors, to prevent excessive wear and tear with the auto stop-start feature, all of the high friction surfaces inside the motor are coated with a slick, high durability coating. I don't think he hurt that engine one bit. One trip through the city with auto stop-start on would be harder on the motor than anything he did here.

Toyota definitely DO NOT do that with engines going into customer's vehicles.

Next thing you're going to tell us is that if you put a battery on concrete it will lose it's charge overnight. This ain't the dark ages anymore. Materials, tolerances and lubricants have changed dramatically. If anything, the added pressure on the rings helped them seat better ensuring more power and longer life then "limp wristing" it.

Nice video. I am guessing that the transmission shifts quick and you don't notice it too much. I have a Ram with an 8 speed and it is just quick shifts.

People have been saying this??? The truck changes gear ratios to a higher RPM, therefore gets louder and no doubt faster in "Sport mode" I put the windows/radio down and got on it from a light today. I don't know about this feeding artificial sound in. I know one thing, it did 0-60 in all of 6.1 seconds though.

I turned it off because it looks you have the display in kph when the road signs are in mph, very confusing to watch when it looks like you are launching like a GT 350 R. If you are going 69 mph on the 45 mph off ramp then I apologize.

Dude I love my 2008 Toyota Tundra 2WD, 5.7L. 6 speed Auto.Power, performance, reliability, I love this f150 though! 10 speed, bigger payload, and towing, twin turbo? Wtf... that's crazy! It's super nice, what about it's reliability, and resale value? I drove one at my job. It felt good!

I see in this video something that really troubles me, I am in México and i thought that in the US you would have DEMO CARS, but the one you are using has all the stickers on windows as the ones that are there for sale, and no demo stickers... as some one mentioned in a comment before, about breaking in the truck, according to the manual, you should not be driving it the way you were driving it, your videos are great, and for that purpose is excellent, but what about the poor client that goes to the dealer and buys that particular truck? He is not really buying a NEW truck! I asked my salesman about this and he mentioned that Ford doesn't require the dealers to have demos for certain models, so when they need a car or truck for a client to test, they just use whatever they have in the garage waiting to be sold... what do you think about this and/or what do you know about this?

without the 4x4 option, would fuel economy improve? I had a '02 F150 XL 4x4 with 5.4 v8 and got about 13 mpg...of course I had 35" tires also (non mudders).

Really want one of these but under normal driving they seem to need more RPM's to actually move away from a light or general driving. My current vehicle rarely ever need to go above 1700-2400 rpm for normal to above average acceleration.

Automakers have to make these changes because of the up coming mpg mandates set by the govt. I believe more trucks will have more aluminum and or plastic body panels to save weight/gas

Wondering if this 2nd generation engine is only being installed in the F-150. I purchased a 2017 Explorer with the 3.5L, v6, ecoboost and can't find any place where I can ask ford directly if I have the 2nd Generation or not. Appreciate any help.

father in law drove his 2016 down to Texas from Minnesota. He got 18mpg down and 11mpg back with a head wind. box was loaded with luggage. I love the looks but that's not very good fuel economy. but I suppose if you dropped 65k on a truck it's not a big deal

The 2017 ten speed constantly searches for gears in traffic. The four door rear suspension bounces on small bumps even at 35 psi. It rides worse than my old 2001 F150 regular cab truck.
