I really wish Thorn got her own book, she was such an interesting character to me and she also helped me warm up to the Sandwing tribe as a whole. I also think the entire eastern part of Pyrrhia needs development, mudwings included.
The Othermind should have been the villain from the get go or Wasp should have been controlled by the othermind but it’s to late for that. So much potential.
it appears the othermind can partially control wasp, or atleast influence her thoughts. during the dangerous gift, whilst thinking about the trap set to catch the chrysalis messengers, wasp thinks something along the lines of ‘and then the trap will snap shut and they’ll be caught like flies in a plant’s jaws’ or something like that followed by ‘hmm. that’ not my metaphor. stay out of my head!’ or something.
Keep in mind that Tui. said that she wanted to have all the characters be a POV in the epilogue of Darkness of dragons (like Clay, Tsunami, Glory, Starflight, Sunny, Moon, Winter, Peril, Turtle, and Qibli were ALL going to be POVS in the Darkness of Dragons epilogue) But her editor said it seemed like that the ending of the series altogether. So it seemed like Tui. always planned to make an arc 3.
agree about the big no no for redeeming Wasp. This is the same series where dragons dehydrated a dragon forcing him to drink his own blood and then killed in an arena by his own daughter, LIKE WHAT still not over Gil's death
Well I mean there was actually hints at iridescent wingless dragon in burns weirdling tower. So idk if it was necessarily tact on out of nowhere, I think it was an idea tui had been thinking about for a while, and just spur of the moment decided to make it an arc

In blue’s life silkwings had always been mistreated and see as lesser, when Luna starts to get mistreated more it would make sense of it for blue not to care so much to go ages everyone. This shows how much the society someone’s in can affect someone’s sights. If you lived in a society were people similar to you were mistreated, and have been for a long time, then you’d think it’s normal. Blue had been raised like this around him and without anything to show that this wasn’t normal so obviously he would go along with it even when it affects Luna.
You should make a video about your thoughts on Darkstalker (the book). I personally think it's the best book in the Wings of Fire series, but I'm curious to see someone else's opinion. Litterally the entire fandom agrees with you- a want to say that maybe 3-2 years ago the mods held a poll debating which book was the best, with darkstalker first, moon rising second, and i forgot the third place winner.
I'm a person who adores this arc, however, I do see all of your points in this. I don't hate blue. But I dont love him either. The 14th book is my favourite one, and that is mostly due to the jerboa plotline. I loved it, and I thought it was a really cool callback to all of the hints to jerboa. Hawthorn, imo, a pretty great villain. It's so hard to find a character like him, and it's so depressing to see him die. Hope he pulls a purple guy and comes back.

Wasp does get the tiniest bit of complexity in book 14 , we can see in the gift of vision that the reason she is so controlling is because she is actually very scared of the silk/leaf wings. I don’t think it’s enough to talk about her, but if we can see more in book 15, maybe she was attacked or someone she loved was killed by a leaf wing? I think she would be a much better villain if that was explored in book 15. As for the Othermind I don’t know how the could make it mor complex or have a good back story for why it wants to rule the continent.
Wings of Fire books Normal books: Each book follows a prophecy dragonet and obviously contain a prophecy Graphic Novels: Just like normal books but they have pictures and some small changes Winglets: They are short stories following minor characters Legends: They are longer than usual and also each chapter follow a different character's perspective (eg.Darkstalker,Clearsight and Fathom)
**SPOLIER WARNING FOR DRAGONSLAYER** I personally don't see why Dragonslayer and the introduction to humans being main characters is so hated. I personally find it pretty cool, and it shows us what some of the towns have been up too. I love Wren (because I can relate to her a lot lol), and I like that Dragonslayer tells us what happened to Sky and sets up another (probably minor but who knows), villain. Ivy is a good character and I find it very cute that she shows so much of an interest in dragons, and legit exposes her dad as the lying, lazy, idiot scum that he is. Leaf is also a good character, but he isn't as interesting to me as Wren and Ivy are, also the Leaf x Ivy ship (or as I like to call it, Livy) is kinda shoehorned in but is in itself ok. I also find the good (good as in they aren't trying to hurt/actively help Wren, Ivy, and Leaf), very endearing. Daffodil and Violet's relationship is also relatable because that's what I'm like with my own brother. Undauntable is entertaining, and the epilogue shows that he does care about Wren and doesn't just want to be friends with her for the dragon scales (the concept of Dragon is just hilarious to me). And Leaf's backup dragon murder squad (minus Mushroom) are ok, they aren't really memorable Rowan and Grove are better than the rest though. The Wingwatchers are a cool, and make sense do to the fact that teenagers would be more skeptical than the adults. Rose and Stone are also great And for the bad side characters, (bad as int they oppose, hurt, get in the protagonist's way), I think the dragonmancers are the best. I don't like them but, they are really smart and where able to control an entire town through fear and lying. That's kind of impressive. They also got rid/tried to get rid of anyone who knew to many of their secrets. Heath wasn't as good, he only had the respect for something he didn't do, he left his sister to die. He was a coward, and I don't like him. Mushroom straight up died after betraying Leaf so I don't care about him. And I can't wait to see what the Invincible Lord will do next.
I liked dragonslayer, the story gives a show of what actually happened to the old sand wing queen and has a fun narrative on how the humans live in this world and how their society’s are affected by them.
Wow, arc 3 is actually my favorite. I like those books better than most of the series. The other arcs are great (the legends books just average), but this arc was just so much fun to me.
Yeah, I agree with you. Why? Because I feel like it relieves us from all the drama that has happened in the Distant Kingdoms, it has (FINALLY) different dragons, and it even introduces my favorite character, Cricket!
Well, the last book of the arc came out and I’m sad now. I think your thoughts on how Hazel should have been book 14’s POV are interesting. It makes sense that if this arc was supposed to be easy for new readers, it should have kept up the Pantalan perspective. That really makes sense. And yes, Snowfall would have been better in a Winglet. Also: (Spoilers for 15) Yeah, Wasp was just an afterthought in this book, and that’s a disappointment. Yes, she wasn’t really developed, but her whole sinister, mysterious air could have made her a great villain to expand on when they finally confronted her in person. Instead, we got two villains revealed and disposed of in half a book. I’m disappointed.
I'm of two minds with additional arcs... On one hand, I enjoy the series, so I don't mind a bit of milking it because hey, more content. On the other hand, it's only worth writing more if there's good ideas behind it. I've enjoyed what I've read of the third arc, but it's not quite at the same level as the other arcs.
Seeing how Darkness of Dragons could easily have been the final book of the series if it weren't for those last few paragraphs, I find Arc 3 more and more unnecessary the more I think about it. At the same time, however, there has been some build-up to it in the past, and I did enjoy a lot of what it had to offer, so I'm glad that it exists.
FINALLY! I found someone talk about Hawthorn. Honestly, he may be one of my favorite characters. So sad he got stabbed with a thorn. So much wasted potential.
I feel the forsed love intrest thing is a symptom of her wanting to add some in for people that like shipping to have some canon BUT its not a romance book so she isn't going to stop the main plot for it unless it somehow pushes the plot in some way

With all the other wings of fire books I could read them over and over, but with The Hive Queen I read about less then half of it the second time and skipped to when Cricket found out about the whole Queen Wasp injecting eggs thing- other then that it wasn’t necessarily a great book but it wasn’t terrible
Compared to other book series like Warrior cats, Wings of fire doesn't have alot of arcs or books. I'm wondering if it's because Tui doesn't write alot or something. Great series overall, I just kiiiiinda wish there were more books
Warriors has a main book every 6 months, 5 per year (novella collection, 2 main series, super edition, graphic novel), with multiple authors writing them. Also it started in the early 2000s. Wings of Fire is about 8 years old, is written by one person, and releases one book a year, already quite fast for a release schedule--some authors can take 2 years or more.
The "Hive Queen" Its my second favourite book In the "Wings of Fire" series. Most likely because I'm gust like cricket lol. But still give my girl a brake!
Cricket isn't 1 of my favorites she's a fun character but why she isn't 1 of my favorites: she thinks too much about Blue. 2: she thinks so much about Blue that the book is more about her thinking about Blue than almost anything else. The book is decent but not 1 of my favorites Blus is a cool character he's really calm though. Why the 13 book is my most favorite book in the 3rd arc: It has drama I like drama. 2: Sundew is more active than Cricket or Blue. 3: Cricket hardly done anything as active as Sundew. 4: the 13 book explained more about the tree wars than any of the other books. 5: I also like how it was about them trying to travel to Pyria whatever u call the beginning content (sorry I spelled it wrong) then they reach it in the next book. (Sorry if I made ur eyes bleed from reading this)
I love Sunlow, and it is one of the very few ships I know are canon, taking away that Qibli and moon might be. As someone who will NOT ships ANYTHING that isn’t canon I really enjoy that Tui gave us 1. A good ship, 2. A canon one, and 3. A gay one, which is great representation!

I personally enjoyed it and it was the first book I read, it made me completely fall in love in the series and also made me buy every single book and graphic novel ever (still missing the Winglets…Ima get those soon lol), but anyways I’d love to hear your opinion about it :)

I don't really care who dies, but I think it might be Cricket. I don't know why, but it's like Tui. is trying to make every character like Cricket. Swordtail and Luna accepted her. Blue is in love with her. Bumblebee, besides Sundew, loves Cricket more than anyone. Katydid, Lady Scarab, and Lady Jewel all care for her. I think Cricket will end up dying saving Blue from the othermind and end up getting stabbed by the othermind somehow. I think Cricket's final line will be her and Blue admitting their love for each other, and admitting they could have never been a couple, as neither SilkWings nor HiveWings would have accepted it. They could have never had hybrid dragonets, who would be shamed. Katydid would probably been supporting but a bit disappointed in her daughter. Burnet, who has been shown to stick to the rules, would probably disliked the relatonship. Luna and Silverspot would have been supporting, and so would have Swordtail and Sundew. But, it still wouldn't have worked. Blue and Cricket have to admit this, and must realise that even if Cricket lived, she and Blue could never have been a couple. And so, in a way, Cricket did her and Blue a favour, so they didn't have to go through the pain of speration.
Um no That's Clearsight dude. Darkstalker has white scales under his *wings* Clearsight has a white *underbelly* . So the part where the wing connects to the torso would have white scales if it were Darkstalker. You got your dragon antonamy a bit mixed up there
Please don’t hate me, but I don’t see what’s wrong with arc three of WoF. Sure, it has its flaws and isn’t as strong as other arcs, but I still thought it was a good read
Book 11 just dystopian 1984 vibes, i enjoy even if Blue's a doormat till seeing the extreme of his father Admiral. Book 12 all I recall is Cricket discovering family-royal Hivewings as Scarab and Jewel, then eggs. But Book 13 - def among top ships. Anenome x Tamarin, I would want more than just end of Book just mentioning. Sundew x Willow, you see their growth and chemistry together start to end. Writing off as gay or quota, no, it was written expertly well. Also Book 14, Lynx keeping Snowfall grounded, she's just so fun. Why Book 15 robbed us of smiley icewing bestie, I would've enjoyed a Darkstalker-esque POV swap or line break for her (and Stealth Team).
hey charcoal it's me again I just want to say that I think you're right I think wasp should not be redeemed because of how many dragon she's killed over the years and how many she enslaved she needs to die or be sent to jail and who needs to be the next Queen of the hivewings well cricket of course she's very kind and very gentle and trustworthy so she would be a perfect Queen to the tribe so if I hope tui doesn't make wasp a redeemed character because if she does I will be super disappointed so am I right about that charcoal
How about this for her death? Wasp is internally multilated by something, obvious to other because it looks as though leeches are pulsing just under her scales with red tinting increasing as her blood spills from broken muscles and bones. Her screeches of pain and rage are like scalding water - you can almost hear the gargles. She dead in seconds but feel like an eternity, limbs and wings stretched out in struggle and mouth wide open. The Dragons then fill her corpse with the equivalent of bombs because no-one wants to or think she deserves a dignified send off and use it to blow up the othermind.
I feel like Cricket would be to obvious of a choice, and we don’t really know if she is even related to Wasp. I don’t really want another Thorn scenario, but i guess you can’t keep the same dragon family as the royals forever. I think one of Wasp relatives like Jewel might be better, since (fr9m what we know) she’s not ancient, and Tupi could use her for some interesting character development or whatever
Nah at that point it would just become like Warrior Cats and that would not be good for the Wings of Fire fans. It would be way too dragged on and there would be so much potholes. I think at most there will be four or five arcs, but if she adds any more I would be slightly disappointed. And like I said at most, because she is pretty tired by now at least I assume. so I think at the end of the third Arc Tui probably decide to just make Legends and Winglet books.

I really do find it funny that with book 13 with people freaking out over Sundew being gay in a children's book. Like, it's a series with Slavery, Attempted murder, actual murder, experimentation, casualties of war, mind control, implied gore, propaganda, threat of death, and they're upset about "oh no, da gays."
Regarding humans, I enjoyed the human parts but they absolutely feel like they do not belong in the main series to that degree. With the benefit of hindsight I think Wren and Sky should not have been in Arc 3. Actually, moving book 14 to the beginning of arc 4 would have been better for several reasons. 1. The humans would have been made relevant through the end of Arc Three - the dragons dont really even need to be able to speak their language, nothing would have changed plotwise if they could not. Heck, they shouldn’t have been able to since the human language should have been drastically different after 5012 years. If the humans were proven to be sentient on the lost continent- perhaps even showing up with a small army to fight for or against the main cast- then the dragons could come back to the main continent and try to convince the queens humans should be protected with varying degrees of success in either arc 4 or a legends spinoff. 2. Snowballs PoV could have led to an exploration of refugees and how the fleeing dragons change the political landscape, with conflict among the queens that would work against her paranoia. Maybe show some of the icewing coldness when she makes some alliances to her peoples benefit- or discovers that her antagonistic reaction will cost her people some alliances and potential power. 3. Book 14 could have been used to advance the actual plot, exploring the dragons left behind and setting up a threat that would soon threaten the main continent if not dealt with. 4. The legends books felt separate, and those 2 characters didnt feel like they fit in the main series. Both because the characters just have a different feel to them and because there is nothing to tell the reader that they should read the legends spinoff first except that halfway through the 4th book in the arc those characters appear and reference things that feel like inside jokes. (The hat thing for example). Reading legends last did not stop me from understanding the plot or anything but it was very obvious that I was supposed to be getting those inside jokes. 5. I think they didnt need to go to the main continent at all. The “talons united” line of the prophecy was kinda irrelevant, especially since they just got captured immediately in order to keep them out of the plot.
What's the basically invented the concept of eugenics ... Sure, boring villain I mean I guess you can make the argument that some of the other tribes had already done that but they're on one continent and she's on the other and she didn't have any tribes you know to model her off of so for her this is way worse
But didn't we get a vision in Book 6 of Blue and someone else in the future visiting Jade Mountain? I really was intrigued by that. I think Arc 3 was needed.
I am perfectly fine with this review you did a good job explaining the books and there storyline there was one thing that made me kind of upset though. You came out and called the people that disagree with lgbtq+ Which is fine but I don’t see why people are upset for other people having an opinion. Also why The heck did you have to swear? And the worst word for heaven sake‘s! I know you bleeped it out but seriously! You can obviously tell what you we’re saying. Thank god I did not show this to my little sister. In the future I would recommend you not to do that. It allows a bigger audience with younger age ranges. I know people are going to come out and say I’m a Karen for saying this but all I’m trying to do is recommend that you don’t do that in the future.
I have only got into wof a few months ago This arc is good dont get me wrong but it is definitely my least favorite arc (I still like it) I feel like it get too much hate while yes I like arcs 1 and 2 better these books are still really good. Not my favorite Books but they are still good. I do have one very large nit pick and that is the involvement of humans. also imo dragonslayer is ok so please dont send me death threats and have a good day sorry this is long
The Lost Continent was disappointing; Blue being wingless and flightless until the very end was unappealing. The Hive Queen may have been filler, but at least it was entertaining filler. The Poison Jungle was indeed the best novel in Arc 3. I haven't read Legends: Dragonslayer because I hate the inclusion of humans in Wings of Fire. The Dangerous Gift was poor. The Flames of Hope was torture. When all is said and done, the third arc was messy and unnecessary.
Tbh, I wish there was more ships between two dragons from the same tribe. Sure, there will always be those two dragons from different tribe but like, COME ON, I DONT WANT MORE CROOS-TRIBE RELATION SHIPS. We have Starflight and the night wing I can remember the name off, Fierceteeth and Strongwings, Riptide and Tsunami, Six-claws and that lady medic, all the queens, which like, why talk about? Gill is the only one we ever actually see in the books and even he dies straight away. Luna and Swordtail, we have all those side characters for the main characters parent. I doubt you can even call Kestrel and Chameleon a ship from the same tribe, chameleon isn’t an actual sky wing. Tho, no ship from the same tribe is actually plot changing or relevant, we just get introduced to it and then it’s thrown out the window. The only one that we get to know is Darkstalker and Clearsight.
