According to Wolfe Glick, David Nolen chose Beheeyem due to it being one of the very few Pokemons with Alley Switch in the Unova Dex. But he only used it very rarely. Edith: At least thats what I remember from His "Every weird Pokemon that top cut worlds" Video.
It's also completely true: People of lower IQ are harder to utilize hypnosis, do to not being creative enough to imagine and not being logical enough to put pieces together.
Some day, I'd like to see a video on "Unlikely Pokemon That Broke Into Ubers". Less detailed, of course, but that kind of thing has always interested me.
One of my favorite Gen 5 Pokémon and probably my favorite Psychic type from Unova with Victini & Gothitelle. My favorite memory with the line is having Eviolite Elgyem sweep Skyla with Charge Beam. Also love that it has TM 51 Steel Wing as a potential nod to Area 51
@@zememerr2329 It’s been that way since it was changed to Steel Wing and it’s still able to learn it. I doubt they’d keep it in for this long if it didn’t have some intentional purpose. All we can do is speculate though.
I’m still appalled that game freak gave Reuniclus the same special attack stat WITH good bulk AND Magic Guard so Life Orb was literally just simulating analytic damage because they’re both super slow. If Beheeyem was psychic steel, it would have a MUCH better defensive typing, and flash cannon would be great extra stab. Like, cmon, I love them both, but Beheeyem is so obviously steel. It’s not even funny that something like Mawile get’s to be steel, only because of one part of it, and even then it doesn’t make much sense, yet the Pokémon that is based off of UFO’s wasn’t given steel. Reun doesn’t even look like it has a SpAtk stat that high either, while Beheeyem is extremely other-worldly, therefore it would clearly have either insane strength, which it doesn’t look the part, or insane “magic”, which is DOES look the part of. I’ll never get over how ripped off Beheeyem was
@@leojamesquiambao1047 Yes, But it has very UFO based features of it too, and it looks much more metallic as well. It looks much more structured compared to many Pokémon, and less of normal life.
Fun fact about its design: the three coloured circles on its hands are a direct reference to the faces of the martians in the 1953 adaptation of War Of the Worlds.
@@HeyHeyChey Likely just a color that doesn't clash with either red, green, or yellow. Also part of it's design is to look like it's wearing a trench coat and detective hat, as a sort of nod to those mysterious government agent-type figures that keep the public away from UFO sights and silence people who find out. The conjoined eyes are likely meant to resemble shades or sunglasses, which these government agents would also wear.
Gen 7 Beheeyem in doubles was amazing in my experience. No one knows what it can do because it’s so unpopular. Run analytic for earthquake, etc. Full HP/Sp Atk. I used psychic with a z crystal, protect, trick room, and recover. Also gotta make sure dark types are afraid of the rest of your team. Constantly surprised people with my plays it was unpredictable.
Specs with full SpAtk and raising nature comes out to 560-ish, with the added analytic boost is 730-ish. Not exactly surprised, even with High Hp, not much is gonna live a 90 BP super effective move with that high of a SpAtk
Honestly, if it weren't for that episode where Beheeyem took over a town and spoke through Meowth that Team Rocket, Ash and Pikachu were too stupid for the control to work, I don't think a lot of people would remember the guy.
Beheeyem is one of the Gen 5 designs that has superb thought and backstory put into it, and deserves to be competitively better or receive some buff to make sure all the work they did for its design wasn’t in vain. Also, I like how we’re getting back into Gen 5, I hope that some of the really good Pokémon of that Gen like Scrafty, Escavalier, and obviously Ferrothorn are around the corner ;)
I just love Beheeyem's dex entry in SwSh, saying it "steals" dubwool (it mysteriously dissappears). Just imagine a Beheeyem wanting some company, then just befriends dubwool by kidnapping them (supposedly)

Beheeyem has become one of my favorite Psychic Pokémon over time, as I just love its design and the sci-fi references woven into it! One of those references I didn't realize until later, as Elgyem evolves into Beheeyem at level 42, a nod to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
Beheeyem is one of those pokémon that people sleep on, but it's so damn cool! I think that it can learn the 51th TM, Steel Wing, another reference to Area 51!
Back in the day, people really trashed on this guy, and I’ve always felt it was undeserved. It’s a pretty cool-looking extraterrestrial inspired by depictions in pop culture; even its name sounds alien, not just in that it’s like BEM (I didn’t know that factoid, thanks FSG) but just on how it sounds and is spelled. Beheeyem, beheeyem... it feels kinda like a more rounded-out ultra beast two gens before they were introduced Edit: lil typo
An evolution based on another classic alien archetype that’s somehow related to metal like the three-legged walker, could grant the line the better defensive profile it needs with the addition of a steel typing. Plus a 3-legged Walker could be used to continue that motif of the three coloured dots on both Elgyem and Beeheyem

My fond memories of beheeyem is the it’s debut episode where ash along with its friends and meowth gets trapped by beheeyem and the dream theif inside the dream world.
I love learning about the competitive viability of Pokémon especially ones that don’t get much spotlight. Although I’m patiently waiting for the Amoonguss video I loved this one. Keep up the great work.
I'll be honest. Even though Psychic Types are one of my favorites, what truly got me into Beheeyem was Colress...and his absolute banger of a battle theme.
I've waited SO LONG for this day! Edit: I honestly wasn't expecting Beheeyem to have much success. But I'm glad my alien boi had some success in the lower tiers.
Man of culture! Mine too! Shame that Unova has so many great pokémon. I literally spent from 30 to 5 hours thinking my whole team, and this little alien is always something to be considered.

Beheeyem is my favorite Pokémon of all time, purely because of its design. They jam-packed like a dozen different pop culture/sci-fi references into its design and I think it's one of the most smartly executed Pokémon in the series.
This thing was always so enigmatic. You didn't see it too much during story, it was a rare encounter in one spot in the game, and it wasn't particularly good to boot.
Wow, I have literally never heard of this Pokemon. I fell out of it after Gen 3, and didn't get back into it until Gen 6. Still, I didn't think there were that many that I've never noticed. It's pretty cool, I could see myself using it in the game.
In recent times, the current untiered mons are given a lot of needed representation in the new tier called ZU, maybe in future videos you could cover that as well? It’s a unique tier, that could provide even more depth to a mon like Beheeyem that keeps finding its way into an Untiered Status.
I unironically remember it. I never use it mostly cause I always have a better Psychic Type by the time I encounter it's preevolution. Haha. I do like it's design a little bit, mostly the body (that trench-coat esque look).
Generation 7 was such a hostile environment for a lot of Pokemon. Either they soared and became an important powerhouse or they tumbled to the lowest retches of PU and Untiered. There is no middle ground.
Wanna know fun facts about this Pokemon? It was introduced in Generation V, the region based on the United States, mostly due to area 51. On the same note, Elgyem and Beheeyem can both learn TM 51, Steel Wing, despite having no wings, referencing the steel wings of a UFO space ship and the 51 from area 51. Elgyem's french name is Lewsor, which is Roswel backwards, in reference to the Roswell crash. Beheeyem's french name, on the other hand, is Neitram, which is Martien backwards, the french word for Martian. Those Pokémon are indeed referencing UFO incidents and conspiracies.
One of the more hidden surprise Pokémon in gen 5 and I love using it on my team Would recommend a speed and sp.def buff with increasing speed to base 65 and sp.def to base 100
I would buff Beheeyem by increasing its HP by 20 pts., its Defense and Sp. Atk. by 10 pts. each, and reducing its Speed by 10 points, which would give it more bulk and power to counterattack reliably and less Speed to further abuse Trick Room
@@WheelStart It still would be less bulky and with much less op abilities and as such and would always be below it in the tiering rung, but with those buffs it would be better where it ends up (and it also would be EVEN stronger than Reuniclus in raw power)
@@sephikong8323 honestly, based on beheeyem design, it Looks like it could've been a glass cannon..maybe a stats like alakazam but beheeyem speed is higher than sp atk.. with this stats, even if it wasn't that good competitively but atleast it could've been a top tier pokemon in playthrough
Giving it steel type would be pretty cool imo, more resistances to switch in on, and an extra STAB option. Beheeyem has okay stats ish, it's not like Plusle or Persian or anything

My God, do I love my Gen V babies. Beheeyem's gotta be one of my favorite Psychic-types and God am I happy it got to utterly own a tier, no matter how low.
I've always thought of Beheeyem as a bad version of Reuniclus. The stats are so very similar, but it's very interesting to see how both Pokemon have a very different competitive history.
Beheeyem is a pretty cool idea, but unfortunately it doesn't really have the bulk to back up its low speed stat. The obvious buff would be to buff its bulk so it can calm mind effectively, but then it would probably be a bit more of a clone of all the other slow psychic types out there, like Musharna and Reuniclus. So maybe instead I'd just go crazy and give it base 150 special attack and focus blast, basically saying, 'yeah, you're only getting one or two attacks off with it, but just run a specs and kill something with it'.
I'm not saying this will be super balanced, but I believe it could be a good candidate to be given the first switch in trick room ability. It's stats aren't too crazy, and it's still not the slowest Pokemon ever, so it wouldn't be too unbalanced.
I wonder if it could have doubles potential in a format with lower power. I would imagine paired with Indeedee, you could have psychic terrain boost expanding force, as well as follow me allowing beeheeyem to safely move last at least once. Expanding force + psychic terrain + analytic boost + 125 base sp attack could be a devastating lead
Fun story: I was playing pokemon white 2 and i was looking for a 6th member for my team. Then a elgyeem appeared at the first encounter and i throw a pokeball. I catched at the first try and became the 6th member of my team.
Beheeyem in gen 8 also ran other sets not just the two sets presented in gen 8 it received meteor beam so agility + meteor beam with power herb was a deadly wall breaker .
I kind of forgot Beheeyem was a Pokémon, because with how much Generation V didn't click with me, I forgot most of the Pokémon in that Generation. (Though, I may have liked Generation V more if I was able to play through Black 2/White 2)
