Being able to maintain a UU presence across so many gens (particularly 5 and 6) is really impressive for a UU Pokemon, as opposed to the many OU that have fallen all the way to RU and PU.
To be fair, there were a couple of cases where Nidoqueen started out the generation as RU, and only got into UU or higher later down the line. Still, It's impressive to be able to pull herself out of those low tiers without something like an event gifting her something, and instead is just a case of her potential being realized. All in all, better to be consistently decent/good rather than flash-in-the-pan amazing.
Im not denying that they are good, heck i love nidoking he was my first lvl 100 in red n blue XD, but a mega would give it that extra kick, a steel type mega for the king and a fairy for the queen would do wonders, plus king should get a chance to give mewtwo those hands after that first beat down lol i mean even charizard got to give it too mewtwo, he at least deserves that
"Right, so the 2 nido lines will swap their respective color schemes for the shiny forms, but, hear me out, nidoqueen will break this pattern entirely for a sickly shade of green"
Damn i was hoping i would get mentioned in this one for using it in VGC 14 and getting top 8 with it haha! As long as i get mentioned in the jellicent one hehehe
She's a Nido... Queen Superpower and Ice beam She knows bite, and hyper beam Guaranteed to blow your mind Anytime Recommend by Giovanni Insatiable in UU Wanna Try?
I loved running a Kumatora-based Nidoqueen in lower tiers - Flamethrower for PK Fire, Thunderbolt for PK Thunder, Ice Beam for PK Freeze and Earth Power for PK Ground
Dragrath1 There are some items that are clearly better and more useful than others. Often regardless of generation. Choice items, leftovers, life orb, assault vest, etc are all good regardless of what generation they are in and are good compared to most other items.
I feel like if they decided to do a video on this topic, it'd most likely talk about what kinds of Pokemon most often used a particular held item and why. For example, if you used a Pokemon with a choice item (specifically a choice band or specs), you'd be giving it that item because the extra power granted by it would allow you to get 1 or 2 hit kills on things that you'd fail to otherwise. The life orb also works in a similar fashion, but tends to be preferable if you want your Pokemon to be able to switch it's moves without needing to switch it out of battle, but it also carries the drawback of causing the holder to lose 10% of it's maximum HP per attack, and it also doesn't give as much extra power as a choice band/specs.
The sheer force/ life orb combo with the Nido family is ridiculous. I use Nidoking a lot in Doubles paired with fake out/intimidate Incineroar. Once my opponents lead Pokemon are down, the rest fall like dominos.
@@TheRibottoStudios never thought I'd see somebody call Nidoqueen "cute" XD, but yeah she's pretty awesome. From an era when lots of pokemon used to be cool, dinosaur-looking things. Probably one of the best designed pokemon of all time, along with King.
Unusual and worthwhile notes of interest on the 4th gen natural move pool for Nidoqueen's evolution line: Unless you grind to stupid high levels as Nidoran and Nidorina, you actually can't get any solid Poison moves outside Poison Sting and Toxic Spikes. Poison Fang takes level 45 as Nidoran and level 58 for Poison Fang on Nidorina. Nidoqueen herself actually loses access to almost every move it's pre evolutions have when fully evolved. And short of TMs below and whatever you can get from Tutors, her actual move pool is heavily neutered (not unlike her odd state of sterility, but I don't ever breed much if at all) and has NO Poison moves for actual offense. And all this does not counting getting Sludge Bomb and Poison Jab from TMs. Why did Gamefreak not actually deal Nidoqueen anything actually worthwhile for a STAB outside busting your butt for TMs and/or massive grinding? Breeding doesn't fix this issue and even if you are careful about keeping certain moves, you forget them and there's no getting them back. Nidoqueen's line really did not get a fair deal in 4th gen. I'm surprised people could make it work.
something like that happened to me in soul silver, I left ice pass with a team of level 70's. I loved that whole team so much, especially my feraligatr nidoking and ampharos
I actually think the gen 6 base stat change should have given the boost to her spAtk and not boost her Atk. I think that would have kept her in UU for gen 7
Nidoqueen is a boss who I’ve been slotting into in game teams for years, especially in GSC where half your team needed ice coverage Such a nice, versatile tank
@@joshuakim5240 Honestly I've heard that multiple times but I have always felt that is a bit of an ad hoc justification people have made to try and justify why Nidorina and Nidoqueen can't breed. I do buy the argument for the legendaries, semi-legendaries and or mythical pokemon where there is some evidence that there are multiples in existence within the pokeverse (excluding the infinite alternate timeline thing)
@@Dragrath1 This makes me wonder if Gamefreak will ever in the future have some random scientist/biologist npc reference this as either a joke reference or explanation.
@@joshuakim5240 .....Actually, I think it has something to do with the way the game was coded that was never fixed. I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that this wasn't actually intentional like you think it is. If it WAS intentional, than the same treatment would've been given to Nidoking for EXACTLY the reason you stated. That, and Pokemon not being able to breed after reaching a certain evolutionary stage despite being able to before then (please note that Nidoran is able to breed just fine) is completely backwards; Nidoqueen is the only evolutionary line were this specifically is the case, and the only other case were you cannot breed a Pokemon if it isn't at a certain evolutionary stage is with baby Pokemon, as they're not yet sexually mature enough to.
Fun Drinking Game: Watch all of Kellen's videos on Gen 1 Pokemon but everytime he says "Unfortunately" or "Sadly" at the beginning of the Kanto analysis take a shot
(Not the case for this video) But in my opinion mons that aren't that good in later gens should get a cover for their pre-evolution in LC (Little Cup) if its decent enough.
Groudon and Kyogre are coming in June. Groudon won the vote a few weeks ago, but due to the large amount of research needed, FSG felt it was better to wait rather than rush out a video.
@@Goose-fafo that seems like a huge stretch. I can't think of any animal or fantasy creature that loses child-bearing when building up strength. I think it's more likely that GameFreak took inspiration from real life rhinos, which usually lose their ability to breed while being kept in captivity.
@@Goose-fafo nah it probably had to do with the technology limitations of the Gen 1 era, and it just sort of stuck. I'm pretty sure Nidoqueen can canonically breed.
It is an impressive feat for Nidoqueen remaining in UU for the majority of her career in the competitive scene as other Pokémon often end up in the lower tiers as the new generations debut.
I run nidoqueen in gen 2 ou. I use an underused attract set. I pretty much use her to either force switches from Pokémon that want to setup, or get rid of jolteons, zapdos, and the occasional magneton
I like that Nidoqueen ended up having a much better niche than first glance throughout the gens. You'd think it'd just be completely inferior to Nidoking since its stats aren't very good for a defensive Pokemon these days, but its unique qualities save it from mediocrity.
Nidoqueen pairs great with smackdown and earthquake. The underused move of smackdown is good against surprising opponents who think they're safe from a ground typer. Smack downs 100 percent accuracy is unusual for a rock type move. This move counters moltres, arcticuno, talonflame, charizard Y and thunderus/ Zapdos to lead up to an earthquake
Though incredibly niche having many placings in VGC including Worlds is commendable. I'd give her HP and defenses +10-12. Probably a bit much, but given how ridiculous power creep is? I think it'll be fine! (Maybe)
The High Queen of Giovanni's Team. She gave me so many problems in Gen 1, to the point I had to train a Nidoking (Ver. Blue) just to counter her strength!
Ugh. I have been playing a LOT of Pokemon Go the last few months, you don't know how good it felt to see that Blissey go down to just one Dyanmic Punch instead of like 8 of them
I loved my Modest/Sheer Force/Life Orb Nidoqueen in Doubles last year. I'd finally add an old personal favourite to my M-Gardevoir Trick Room team. Damn Queen ended up sweeping almost everything that came before her. (Even before Trick Room was even down and in play. :'D)
In Nintendo cup 1997 the first ever competitive format there was an interesting way you could use Nidoqueen effectively. The format was bring 6 pokemon, pick 3 while the total combined levels of your pokemon could not exceed 155. This means your pokemon were lv50 with 5 levels to dish out in team building. This added several layers of depth to the game. You could have multiple lv55 pokemon on your team as long as you only brought 1 into battle along with two lv50 pokemon (lv53 lv52 lv50 etc etc). Nidoking was a rather great pokemon to invest levels in as your "Ace" so to speak. At lv55 it was actually Faster then Jynx (The best pokemon in the format) and could threaten it hard with Earthquake. Nintendo cup was also played on Japanese cartridges which meant Blizzard had a 30% chance to freeze the opponent. This meant that Nidoking's ability to hit Exeggutor with it looking to wall it's Earthquake was even BETTER then in OU. Lastly OHKO moves and double team were both allowed which meant Nidoking could set up for free against common electric types, and potentially get free KOs on anything slower then it although it threatened most things slower then it anyway with Earthquake, Blizzard, and Thunder. Now here's where Nidoqueen comes in handy... due to the pick 3 nature of your team it meant you often had "free slots" you could afford to fill with more specific options that would be a lot more useful given that you weren't forced to rely on them every game and there was team preview (like Having Ninetails on your team and only choosing it when you see both a Jynx, and an Exeggutor on your opponent's team) anyway lv55 Nidoking had plenty of weaknesses so there would often be situations where you'd rather bring one of your different lv55 pokemon like Ace Jolteon, or Ace Starmie etc etc... But at the same time then you'd be locked out of using your ground type because the levels would be too much. Well if you really needed a ground type still that's where your lv50 Nidoqueen would come in. It would function just like Nidoking with it's speed still being good enough at lv50 to outpace Exeggutor, and Cloyster etc, and in fact it could potentially also come in a pinch tanking a super effective Psychic or Blizzard by the skin of it's teeth. Anyway having a lv55 Nidoking and a lv50 Nidoqueen was a FANTASTIC way to use Nidoqueen and a clever way to use your extra team slots to have your cake and eat it too so to speak regarding your level conservative and team building!
If they continue to make more tag team gx Pokemon in the future, I think it'd be pretty likely to get that pair; provided it is able to do something the others cannot, especially considering how many of them are psychic types, or need psychic energy in the case of Latios and Latias (or the Guardians of Altomare, as I like to call them).
There's my girl! Nidoqueen has been my pokemon since day one. So versatile and amazing, she does whatever you need her to do. Love the video thank you so much!
I think you should do a series for pokemon competitive items, an example for something that would make a good episode is "How GOOD was Eviolite ACTUALLY?"
@@Bazzi69 unfortunately we probably won't see each other again, because I've given up. Their new videos seem more and more formal every week and in a couple of weeks we'll probably lose more little things like "Sorry if I butcher your name" and get something like "Excuse me if I mispronounce your name" I know that they are growing and want to look as professional as possible, but I feel like they lost their magic on the way. I watched Lucario video yesterday, just to see if it's me or the channel and, unfortunately, it's the channel. So how GOOD was Fsg ACTUALLY? Like Golem, they used to be amazing, then they had niches and now, well, they are... watchable I guess. Reading these comments, I'm literally mind blown. How is it a deal breaker for anyone that he doesn't say a phrase or word you like? Is this what our generation is reduced to? Offense at every turn? Get over it. Grow up, and understand that people don't have to conform to the same old same old routine. They're changing up, making videos more informative. And no one can deny they have funny quibs here and there. I don't watch these videos to hear his ignoramus political correctness, I can't stand it. "Sorry if I butcher your names." What? He's speaking English. There's not a person on this Earth who's native and primary language is not English, who can pronounce everything we speak correctly. Dumb how it's only the white English speaking Christian male who has to watch his pees and ques. I watch these videos for the information. Thank goodness for the day he finally stops wasting time with political correctness. It'll never happen, but wouldn't it be a dream? For me, yeah. I'm going to make my RU-vid channel one of these days, just to be thee most brash person on this planet, because I'm sick of the eggshell pussyfooting everyone can't seem to stop!
Nidoqueen is my favorite generation 1 Poison type not named Venusaur. Poison Point & Rocky Helmet was so much fun, especially when paired with a decent special attack stat and strong coverage moves. If Nidoking can get a remake video, hopefully Nidoqueen can get one as well. She deserves it
I know you’ve done some eeveelutions, but could you do just regular Eevee? Everyone please vote Eevee in. He’s my favorite and I know he’s not an Uber tier poke; but when I run my Eevee with Adamant Nature, Evolite, quick attack, last resort, bite, and protect, I manage to find some fun moments where he is surprising powerful. Anyway, whether you do one on Eevee or not I hope you enjoy the comment. Your videos are great and I love listening to all your Pokémon content. 👍🏻
I dont know about Nidoqueen but Nidoking is busted af. I played through Leafgreen just with him. He can do anything, Water, Ground, Electro, Fire and he is so tanky
If Nidoqueen/Nidoking get armored forms in Sword and Shield, Nidoqueen would dominate. If Nidoqueen had just a bit more bulk and moonlight like it got in Gen 2, it would be a premier wall with the likes of Skarmory and Chansey.
Dragon tail on Nidoqueen is great with set up toxic spikes and stealth rock. basically you force them to switch due to dragon tail and then the new pokemon sent in gets poisoned and hurt by the rocks. paired with skarmory's spikes and nidoqueen's sandstorm, you can do some pretty nasty damage spread out over the enemy's team.
Similar looking stats, drastic differences in their use and dominance over the other in their respective metas. Gotta love the nidos. I prefer king myself
The weirdest thing about Nidoqueen is the fact it can't breed. It couldn't breed in the earlier gen due to game limitations, but the fact they haven't corrected it for how many years now is kinda wack. Nidorina and EVEN female Nidoran can breed. Evolution causes Sterilization confirmed? Also what happened to our Jinx and Groudon Video?
Nidoking and Nidoqueen are a dynamic duo in mono-poison teams. Ran them both alongside Roserade, Crobat, Tentacruel, and Weezing way back in the early stages of DPP. Speaking of which, when's how good was poison actually coming out??
