Both are great games. As much as loved Stellar Blade, the story could have been more polished and the characters could have been better developed. Nier Automata by comparison, had a much better fleshed out story and very memorable characters. That said, anyone on the fence about playing either will not regret playing both.
As a game, Stellar Blade is much more fun to play, with much better combat, level design, and exploration. Nier is less of a game and more of an experience. An incredible first time playthrough, but not something I would ever want to pick up again once I've finished it.
Thats actually a good way to look at it. As an experience, Nier Automata cant be challenged, but as a game, it just depends on how each person likes certain aspects of the game. We love Nier for the feelings you get after finishing it. Others love Stellar Blade because it was a simple fun video game
@@ntan315151 Yes, New Game Plus expands the skill tree significantly, Hard mode is unlocked after you beat the game, and there's a ton of collectibles and secret areas that I missed in my first playthrough.
the director of both games respected each other and draws inspiration to one another. the director of automata stated that it might be better than automata, while the director of SB. says he got some elements from Nier, so for me this is a win win situation. where both director made a masterpiece.
I really don't see why there are so many comparisons to Automata. It does share some story elements with original NieR, but I wouldn't call it a copy by any means. And the game play doesn't feel anything like either NieR game. It is more like Bloodborne if it had a block.
The combat is clearly very different, but theres some moments in the exploration and music that feels a bit like Nier, while the setting; the robot characters and some of the Character Designs, along with the Story presentation does remind some people of Nier. If it reminds people of Nier enough, and those people think Nier is better, it makes a subconscious comparison and leads to our current situation. It might not make sense, but thats what ended up happening
It starts out basically the same way, and you have a droid flying around you that can shoot projectiles. To anyone outside of action gaming, one is a ripoff of the other.
@@St4rTr3v1Ut10n Exactly! Anyone unfamiliar with one or the other, might point out the few similarities as being a rip-off. Its happened with other unrelated games before; Like Immortals fenyx rising and Breath of the Wild
played nier automata 3 times, and its a masterpiece. im yet to play stellar blade but im going in with no expectations. will judge the game on its own merits
Definitely, it’s best to give a fair chance to each game. I guess the only reason Stellar Blade is so heavily compared to Nier, is due to the main hook being a philosophical robot girl in a post apocalyptic world. The game has more than enough unique traits that the publishers could have marketed, rather than corner it into a comparison
both are masterpieces in different ways. Nier is a masterpiece in an artistic sense, and StellarBlade is a masterpiece in terms of giving pure entertainment.
I don't think you should really compare these. They aren't very similar. I would say nier automata is the best game of all time though and stellar blade doesn't even compare
Thats actually a great way to describe it. Stellar Blade is indeed a great game; its not just some bad mimicry, its very original and its worth playing. BUT Nier Automata is an absolute masterpiece that shouldn’t be placed in a debate against some “Very Good Game” I guess thats the crux of the argument, but even still, Stellar Blade is put into this comparison even though neither game benefits from this comparison
@@Altaz-Review Nier is NOT a masterpiece and Yoko Taro himself vindicated my thoughts on the game "The work I was most inspired by is Neon Genesis Evangelion. I thank you for praising NieR: Automata’s story, but actually it’s pretty much just a retelling of Evangelion, so there’s not much originality to it. I don’t really watch recent movies, so I’m mostly inspired by memories of works I saw in the past." - Yoko Taro Nier Automata was a less interesting version of Evangelion with less interesting characters and visual aesthetics (If you havent seen Neon Genesis Evangelion which i suspect most Automata fans have not) You would not have been able to see the connection as i did when playing Automata - Stellar blade on the other hand has similarities but i would say is a mesh between - Ghost in the shell, Automata, Evangelion, bayonetta, and devil may cry - Automata fanboys overlook its flaws -i suggest watching - NieR: Automata critique by pixel A day
That much is for certain; but I just wanted to talk about Nier Automata while the topics there. As for Stellar Blade; its not a bad game at all, but being compared to Nier could hurt its growth even though its actually pretty different from Nier as you play through the game
Stellar blade is good, Nier is great. 1. Ability to swap different weapon and fighting style. 2. Unlimited range attack. 3. Different camera perspectives. 3. More mature story about what it means to be “human”… rip Pascal 4. Replay ability with over 2 dozen endings. 5. Different characters to play as. My biggest grip with stellar blade is imposing a point of no return too early which forces you to obtain all collectibles before proceeding, ruining the pacing. Also hate the vocals done for the wasteland music, just terrible and sounds like an American idol reject.
@@Altaz-Reviewthe only thing that Nier had was a good story underlining meaning of human existence the story for stellarblade wasn’t as good but everything else by far a lot better music was about even though
Honestly I think when people say neir automata combat is weak and they literally have no idea what is actually possible it gives you tons of options to mix/match literally every ability you have Like a fighting game you have players who experiment with what is possible (woah you can do this with this to extend and keep the combo going) and player who essentially just button mash(this is so basic) I like stellar blade combat it's more of it own thing u can't compare the two when there is so much more freedom to do in NA literally death combo, if NA got an sequel it's combat would only improve. But they're two completely different combat systems.
Theres alot of areas where Stellar Blade and Nier Automata are pretty equal; Combat is one of them. Like you said; Nier Automata gives you alot of options and ways to mix things together. Stellar Blade has the Sekiro approach of making you a master of the mechanics you have and knowing how and when to use them. Theres alot to compare, but Combat is not one of the elements that either game can claim superiority on.
@@Altaz-Review I like both combats systems, they're both in there own realm . & neir has the that mastery and knowing how to use and when to use em when it comes to combos. Imo just most people just mash n that's fine but it doesn't show what is actually possible and leave an false impressions on those who chosen the mash route. As for stellar blade after getting to know the combat u can of course play it more methodical but once you know what to do you can just bulldoze enemies/bosses with all the options that literally will steal your turn back lmao from using grenade, burst, beta, holding the last attack of whatever ender, ect all to stun or knock down I like em both which is way I don't compare em cause they're completely As for what's more Superior is subjective on what people prefer
@@cloudyworldview6973 Its kind of like with DMC 5; Ive seen people pull off some crazy combos, but Im happy with the 2 or 3 moves that look cool to me. Doesnt mean DMC 5 has simplistic combat just because I can get through the game without doing those x100 combos
@@Altaz-Review yeah exactly sadly not every thinks that when it comes to neir tho. Your different tho lol u can see that just because you're not optimizing the combat system that that's all there is to dmc5
@@Altaz-Review This is very confusing to me, Stellar Blade feels nothing like DMC and didn't replicate Platinum Games combat at all. The new God of War games are closer to DMC and Platinum Games than Stellar Blade.
@@frizen9328 Of course, it doesnt exactly play like DMC; but by "feel" I meant that it gives a certain adrenaline when you play. I think games that make a lot of impact and crazy movements in combat remind me of DMC. The platinum games feel is mostly because, Stellar Blade is very visually similar to Bayonetta and Nier, so the QTEs and backflips give that feeling. But I get that my comparison might not be all that justified, since everyone mutually agrees that Stellar Blade plays very differently from Nier Automata overall
Although many people compare Nier Automata and Stellar Blade; its not much of a comparison. The best parts of Stellar Blade are nothing like Nier. And Nier is a much more polished game (Since its from a bigger developer) Its really a matter of targeted marketing that pointed out the Nier-like qualities a bit too much
@@JMstudios7 It's like summing up the overall value of a car to its design. Nier:Automata is just a global perfect game dude (in each details), and each second of the game deserved to be savoured. But unfortunatly this is only by finishing all the main endings that you begin to realize that you've just played (participated) to a f..... MASTERPIECE ! And when the overal experience is finished you then notice that you've changed, you've grew up...(and lost liters of tears)
@@guillaumeguitarian9642 I have played both. Stellar Blade combat is better. Does not suffer from balance issues in dificulty departament like Nier Automata. Nier Automata combat looks great on the surface but on normal and even on hard difficulty you end up so overleveled and overpowered that you 1-2 hit every boss in the game. Enemies do not scale to your level. Yes Stellar Blade has some OP moves like burst skills for example but they are not making Eve as OP as 2B, 9S and A2. And you have to work with perfect parry and dodges to fill the burst metter to be able to use those skills. And on very hard Nier Automata suffers from having enemies bullet sponges while you get one hit killed by every enemy so the fights becomes long and tedious.
Simply put nier automata is one of a kind masterpiece and stellar blade is a amazing game that heavily inspired by nier automata, and theres absolutely nothing wrong with that
Taking inspiration is always a compliment; especially when the game is creative enough to differentiate itself with its own mechanics and themes. Stellar Blade may feel similar, but it’s definitely its own thing, and it should be treated as such
Music, environment, story and art style all go to nier. Combat definitely goes to SB Both are great. Though I don’t really get why people are comparing them.
Nier Automata needs a lot of focus on the details and lore. For me, it depends if I'm ready to play a game that requires my focus; and in if I just want a game to keep me entertained, something like Stellar Blade might end up being more fun at that moment.
Nier automata is such a beautiful and unique game stellar blade is also a great beautiful game but doesn't have that uniqueness factor that automata has 😊❤
I agree. Nier Automata is great. Not to mention, that in terms of character design, 2B's is more original and stands out. Eve looks pretty generic in my opinion. I have yet to play Stellar Blade (I'm planning to soon) but it just seems very similar to Nier.
Like you said; that familiar feeling isnt good for Stellar Blade, because it makes it feel unoriginal. Stellar Blade has great designs, but whether by accident or on purpose; the devs should be aware of how similar it might feel
@@Altaz-Review Idk. I feel like with 2B the design actively stands out and creates the Nier Automata brand. It also makes her easily recognizable and distinguishes her from other protagonists. Sure, she has an attractive and sexy design but it's also polished and unique. Eve's design is definitely pleasing and polished, but it doesn't really stand out as much as 2B's does. I think with a more distinct aesthetic and brand, Stellar Blade would be able to become more marketable. That and they need to separate themselves from becoming too similar since it just feels like a low end version of Nier Automata. Either way, I am excited to play Stellar Blade!
@@ambercastillo7863 I get what you mean. 2B has an easy point out dress, hairstyle, hair color, and a blindfold. Eve doesnt have enough that reminds you specifically of Eve. If you cosplayed both characters, 2B would be easily recognizable, but Eve might be harder to point out
@@Altaz-Review Exactly! 2B just has a more marketable design. But overall Stellar Blade needs to develop more in terms of originality for it to stand out.
I do think Stellar Blade has better overall combat but I don't necessarily think Nier's is bad at all. Stellar Blade's story is still great too, but may be delivered in a bit of a stilted way.
You basically can't die twice in a row in Nier. That's dumb. Software glitches. Prompts don't show up. Models clip through floors. Designing your game to appeal to sadists doesn't make it "good." Maybe I'll go back to Nier sometime, but it's too much of a pain to worry about dying, and then whether or not I'll actually be able to retrieve my body.
Depending on the difficulty options, Nier Automata isnt TOO hard. Although good plug-ins can help, you can make a good build with some common chips and keep retrying on certain areas. And I guess save-scumming is always an option. More importanly, being an RPG, hoarding and losing valuable items isnt too uncommon. You find alot of duplicates as you keep playing, and 2B's dodge spam can let you dodge most attacks without worry. I get the annoyance, but I think the game is super fun when you can just roll with some of the tougher aspects. It's not easy, but its not unbearably hard. I hope you end up going back to it
Stellar blade has better game play. At least so far Nier Automata has a better story, that's not to say stellar blade has a a bad story though. I don't think stellar blade will effect me like Nier Automata did though.
I agree with most of it. I still enjoyed Nier gameplay more; it had alot of options, and had both DMC gameplay with the fun part of RPG gameplay. But yeah, their Plots are very different, but Nier still wins in story overall. At least in these comments, most people come to the same conclusion; Stellar Blade is a Great Game, Nier Automata is a Masterpiece
@@Altaz-Review I am a Sekiro fan, I prefer parries over combos, hence I like Stellar Blade's gameplay more. Nothing will ever beat the opening lines of Nier Automata, the game hooked me within the first minute, and continued to maintain that quality throughout.
I don't know why people argue. I played both and I can say SB and NA are a masterpiece good to play games. Why need to be technical on how they differ?
@@Altaz-Review I think stellar blade is fine. Its a solid 7 or 6.5. Its not a bad game. Nier was a solid 9 or 8.5 on release. Objectively one has more content, more storyline, more characters. And better voice acting. Its not even close really when you compare the two. You know immediately which you would tell your friend to buy. Not to mention its a console exclusive pos.
the game need port for ps5 with all dlc including the end of yorha on disc, not just code. i have both the vanilla and GoTY edition but crashed to may times on ps5 especiall in crater with drill snake + waterfall area, atleas a next gen patch to fix the bug
Nier Automata holds up really well; it only makes sense to keep it updated on the PS5. Its been so long since anyones played a game like Nier; a Next Gen Version would sell great

I was under a rock and never saw Nier when it released. Stellar Blade has been great so far. Maybe eventually I will play Nier Automata. I have heard so many positives about Nier.
@@Altaz-Review You are convincing. I will put NieR Automata on my list. Thank you. Right now Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy Intergrade are taking my game time at the moment.
@@Altaz-Review I initially only got PS5 for Kingdom Hearts and I stepped out my zone. Would you also recommend NieR Replicant? More green money for Sony I guess😅.
@@duannehaughton4893 to be honest, I wouldnt really suggest Replicant the way I would with Automata. Nier Automata is a masterpiece, but I would only suggest playing Replicant for the sake of Bonus lore. Replicant is a prequel remake, so all its mechanics and story feel like a step back from Nier Automata.
I didn't realize NieR Automata was gone. Wait ... lemme check my (now) PS5. I mean, that seems like a shabby thing to do, get rid of that game just because a generation of faster, shinier graphics consoles comes out ... Oh. No, it's still in my library. Hmmm ... what about the (PS) Store? Yeah. It's still there too. So what's with the "was?" If it's good, that's it. It's not like Generative AI LLMs, that just degenerate 'cause they always pretty much sucked (which happens when linguistic prescription dictates written language as Natural, and bases semantic processing on what is most abstracted, codifying representative as the basis for pattern recognition and data classification processed through symbolic algebra ... wait ... I remember thinking, "This is cool as f*ck, and I'm never gonna be able to play the whole thing, even after it comes out, because the ... wait, I got off track there again. Storyline feels similar, but the presentation and the formula makes a fair difference. Stellar Blade story had a similar vibe, but Nier Automata had more mystery and fantastic settings
Theres alot of games that are remembered for great Gameplay instead of any story; Stellar Blade focused a bit too much on the looks, so I cant say anyones gonna “remember” it’s gameplay 5-10 yrs from now
@@Altaz-Review Nier Automata story is honestly overrated outside of the ending….i put over 100 hours into it… stellar blade beats it in every other category even IF i concede on story
i think both games was extreamly good, if i care to make several runs to see the different endings and complete sidequest 100%, Nier ; Automata offers obviously 5 times more playtime than Stellar Blade but i want alot more of game with this exact formula for the future D; they are very simillar.
As far as the formula is concerned; Armored Core VI did something similar, where you should play it three times to see all the different missions and lore (some quests only show up on third play through)
In my opinion, I think Neir Automata was the better of the 2. I was disappointed when I couldn't equip Tachy's sword, even if it was just anesthetics. The drone gun was also a disappointment for me. It felt so off and slowed the pace, and added a difficulty that wasn't needed in my opinion. It's crap in my opinion, I hate having to only use it, or it being needed because of the insta-death skills of bosses, and levels dedicated to it's use. It's the weak point of the game for me. Neir was well put together, the chips added a lot of complexity that could really help you in certain areas, while hurting you in other's. The skill points in Stellar Blade we quite meaningless at the end. You will get more skill points than you will ever need, and the item to re-skill yourself is also a completely worthless buy. Storytelling wise, I can't really say, but in Neir Automata, I will always look fondly on that last hack to save all my protagonists, to get the E ending, and the choice it gave me. I've never played another game that actually effected me in the real world quite like that, and had real world consequences. Spoiler below this point for Neir Automata. They didn't just delete your saves, it literally went into your inventory and deleted it all one by one, every weapon and item was selected and you watched as the cursor moved to delete and clicked on it, and then deleted every save one by one. It was like getting kicked in the balls multiple times, and you just had to take it. You know those videos of nutjob girlfriends deleting their boyfriend's game saves or similar. It's like that, but because you chose it.
Thats why Nier Automata is a superior “experience” overall, no matter how much we compare gameplay or story or any one element. Stellar Blade isnt a big AAA game, so having a few annoying mechanics isnt too bad (Even Arkham Knight had the BadMobile) but those kinds of mechanics put Stellar Blade one step behind, while Niers unique ideas and gameplay out it one step ahead. So Nier ends up being two steps ahead overall since it doesnt have as much obvious weaknesses
I mean, its a 7 year old game at this point. But its not fair to use the old “Nier is so old YET its almost ad good looking” argument. Stellar Blade looks better, but Nier Automata is almost as good, While being better at a few other things.
I didnt like nier automata, which is weird cuz i love rpgs and I love platinum. I really hate the 9S sections and there were so many, basically had to play the game again and a lil of the other lady and then it returned to 9S and I rage quitted and havent touched it since.
Thats fair. I loved Automata, but the fanbase can be very irritating. I think its pretty overrated in the sense that so many people claim its "the greatest game of all time" or "its a masterpiece". And I say that as a huge FFVII fan. That game is overrated too, because the fanbase imposes it on everyone else. Some people are just not gonna like it, and thats fine.
I can agree that 9S isnt too fun to play. But considering that hes already a higher level (so it quicker to get through his part) and the story implications; I dont mind. Plus, I like 9S as a character, so seeing his reactions and dialogues is a fun change. But still, its a bit of a slog at times
@@Altaz-Review I agree with you and understand the fact that some people can just not appreciate Nier:Automata even if that game is a masterpice to me !
Nier is honestly overrated and too much blind fanboyism tbh (too much overlooking its flaws) The characters are dull and not interesting (them all having the same hair does not help) The boss battles are dull….creative….just dull The pacing is a bit jarring with multiple endings route The music is fantastic Too many invisible walls The story is good but nothing mind blowing (clearly took inspiration from Evangelion) The gameplay is not platinums games best Its a good game but its not the MASTERPIECE people claim it is……(i put over 100 hours in it to give it an objective shot) Automata has one of the most unique endings in gaming history to be sure….however….. Having put 100 hours into stellar blade….stellar blade beats Automata….even if if concede on story…..stellar blade wins in every other category
