Something not mentioned in this video, Dwight CARRIED the rockets during that 2014 rockets/blazers series. Portland had no answer to him and if dame doesn't hit that shot, portland loses the series. Seriously, that series was actually dwight vs aldridge but people only remember lillard's .9
@@christophermauro-barias7451 game 6 fucked up in due from Terrance Jones plus the flopping of some of the bench players. Harden was great offensively but defence wise that time he didn’t have the answer against Aldridge or dame. Dwight however was giving the go to on his Orlando self. People forget Dwight first year in rockets was still his prime and a great player. Almost won DPOY and was even a mvp contender al star and all nba second and defence rebounds leader he was great. That 2014-15 season injuries fucked him
Simple answer: back injuries which he couldn’t recover from at the time, although he’s revitalized his career in LA now and has been playing well recently.
Pixel Boss, you clearly like the nba. Here’s a channel I found that makes fire content. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8C9mM9jFKbE.html, he likes to self promote but that’s ass-hole esk so I’m doing it for him. He actually makes really good content. U should check him out
CDdaBoss true, I never said he played poorly overall for any team tho, what I mean is that he’s become pretty inconsistent lately before LA (at the end of his Rockets tenure, with the Hawks, with the Wizards) and hes been regressing since 2015 and hasn’t had a very good impact on any teams until LA, now he’s been having a fresh impact and has been playing better and more consistent.
he didnt revitalize his career in LA. The 90 people that liked your comment are bandwagoners as well. He's played better 4 of the 5 last years. Better stats than Drummond and DJ when they got their allstar selections. But thats the media for you
@@johnjohn3668 Don't put that on the media or Lebron, it's a copout. *Fans* drag Dwight with gay and butt jokes constantly. Ever since he left LA he's gotten nothing but disrespect despite playing the entire season injured because Kobe (RIP) fans went OD and decided that Dwight was lazy and "didn't want it bad enough." People have been doing this to Dwight his ENTIRE career even going back to Orlando. Shaq, older retired legends, sports analysts complaining about the dude literally smiling too much. And fans ate it up, period. Dwight isn't perfect, dude has made mistakes. But *FANS CHOSE TO IGNORE* his on court accomplishments of their own volition, period.
He went to one finals as the most dominate big man in his era and he had an 8 year run. I forgot LeBron played with at least 5 other all stars during that time
@@princemwamba5230 maybe others were good defensively. Cant really say cuz Im not a magic fan. I only know these 2 were good at defense because they went to the suns
Ahh prime Dwight Howard.. one of the top centers in the league in his prime , 3x defensive player of the year , he was an absolute beast in Orlando but he had a lot of drama off the floor of course with his coaches
@@Clutchcmac19 oh shit. sorry bro i was replying to someone who was talking about rudy gobert being the only reason of the shut down of the nba season. sorry for tagging you
Like Deflandre said, If he was smarter, he wouldn't of have gotten to this point in his career. If he was smart, he would've realised he can't jump like that every single possesion and not get injured at some point. Even if he would've gotten lucky, he would've still gotten to this point cause athleticism fades, skill doesn't. That's the difference between all-time greats and MVP-level players...Work ethic. Both LeBron AND Dwight worked with Hakeem on their post games. LeBron managed to get better on offense, have more tools to use for when he might not be able to dunk on everyone. What did Dwight do with the training that Hakeem offered? Nothing...Absolutely nothing...He trained with Hakeem and came back with 0 improvement in his post-game. This was back when Dwight was in his prime. Same with LeBron.
sWampY Actually no he did learn and that was that postmove inside spin dunk combo. Couldve learned more but nothing? The only thing Lebron does in the post is mostly a basic fadeaway. Thats fine too right.
It was such a pleasure and amazing to watch this man work in the early 2000’s. He was literally his team’s only functional defender and anchored them to top 5 defenses in consecutive years when he was in his prime in Orlando. Definitely doesn’t get the credit he deserved for this
Dwight Howard is one of my favorite players of all time. As a Magic fan I thought he would get us to the promise land. A lot of people do underrate his season in Charlotte. His numbers were really good and almost made the All Star team that year but people’s opinion of him kind of killed that. I believe if he wouldn’t have hurt his back he would be a one of the top centers ever.
I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Dwight was definitely more athletic than a prime Zo and was a better rebounder. However, Zo was a better offensive player, albeit not a super terrific one. Additionally, as great as Dwight was at blocking shots, Zo was at another level back in the days; he averaged close to 4 blocks a game for a few seasons. I’d say Dwight and Zo would’ve been equals and would’ve had a great in state rivalry when both were at the Heat and Magic organizations.
He is without a doubt a future hall of famer and the way he is embracing his role in LA and if the lakers can end up winning the title then he's definitely going to be in the hall of fame
Congrats to Dwight for winning a chip with the Lakers this year. That man didn’t give up and now he got his ring before the end of his career. He’s a lock for the HOF at this point.
One of the most joyful and happy NBA players of all time in his prime, Everyone used to love Dwight Howard, and he's certainly one of my favorite players ever.
Dwight is without question one of my favorite players ever. I totally agree he is the best center in the NBA during the time period where that position is the weakest until it got revived in recent times. I'm glad he did stick around and earned a championship with the 2020 Los Angeles Lakers. First ballot Hall of Famer without a doubt.
You might wanna research more about Orlando Magic's 2009 team Andy. 3 All Stars in Dwight, Jameer, & R. Lewis. Hedo Turkolugh was considered a snub. They bullied Lebron's 62-20 Cavs and blew them out by 40 pts in the regular season twice!
As a long time fan knowing his many flaws it was hurting seeing him going down so bad and so quick. On one hand he had his back surgery and for someone playing with so much contact that really screwed him up heavily, but Dwight also had too much trouble adapting and made alot of stupid decisions during his peak. He was no perfect, but prime Howard in Orlando was so fun to watch. Absolute freak of nature. Even to this day at this age he sometimes does amazing stuff with ease, it is almost that you expect him to do so. I am really happy he got the ring and really happy he matured in his downfall. He is low-key one of those "what if" cases if lets say he was not so stubborn when he was at the top, even with his injury.
This is purely hypothetical but I think D Howard was probably the closest thing to seeing Bill Russell play today. Dwight was such a good rebounder, good defender/shot blocker, and he was able to impact the game enough with his defense and rebounding to beat LeBron.
He's in the same category as Barkley, Kemp, Ewing, and Malone. Great big men who made it to the finals but couldn't get the ring because of Kobe and Jordan.
Orlando Dwight was a beast. He was a monster defensively as far as blocks go. Then he got to LA which was a failed experiment with Nash, Kobe, and Gasol. When he got to Houston he had major beef with harden. Glad to see him back in LA with a winning team again. It’d be cool to see Dwight get a ring. A top 5 center of all time for sure.
The Magic would've won the title in 2009, but their starting PG, Jameer Nelson, tore his shoulder half way during the season. That year they swept the Lakers in the regular season and Kobe himself was praising Jameer that he was playing like an All Star. Jameer was averaging 30.5 pts a game on the Lakers before his injury .
I only saw a couple years of his prime but man was this guy dominant. He carried the load on offense while playing defensive player of the year quality basketball. Easily a first ballot hall of famer in my mind.
I've been a massive Dwight hater ever since the Houston and LA debacles. But I had forgotten just how good he was in Orlando. Watching this video reminded me of the days when he was jacked up on roids and killin' it down there in florida! lol. He was clearly better than Lebron for at least a season or two too! Thanks for this unbiased and interesting vid! Factual, entertaining, interesting. I've watched every one of your vids and I always look forward to more!
Pair prime Orlando Dwight with a real star and sky would have been the limit. He also showed up in the playoffs those years with Rockets, unlike Harden. He locked up Aldridge and we saw a brief glimpse of Orlando Dwight when he anchored the comeback against the Clippers.
As a Laker fan, I never hated him leaving the Lakers because I am also a basketball fan understanding every player’s choice to leave their team especially if they’re stars. Really hate those “fans” who doesn’t put themselves to player’s position making their decision what’s best for them because that’s what teams does too. If only he wasn’t injury prone and also had a better team than his 09 Magic, he might won atleast one rings before where his career right now but he’s still a HOFer. If only he had more moves in his bags around the rim, him with Rockets could’ve worked out getting him the ball more in the paint which probably helped Rockets with shooting.
The problem wt him was that he left orlando in HIS prime to play for the LAKERS when the team was already ageing kobe, nash and some others. Plus after the failing season in la dw goes to houston, but struggled wt injuries. Dude was a beast to watch too much athletisism (i dunno who to write it) 😂
I learned from his example you need to be humble and have a real glance about what you are. His pick-n-roll is amazing and the stats show that. He should have acknowledged that he was good at this and focused on pick-n-roll.
Hey, Andy! My name is Pedro. I'm from Brazil! I watch all your videos!! I would love to see you making series in which elect the top players of each position. Simply putting your personal opinion. That would be incredible! Thanks for the videos!
D12 was so close of really taking over the league but the way he was shit on by the media was too much for him to overcome. Very sad when you add the fact he was still realllllly good with Huston and couldn’t get along with harden
I admire how he run post moves during his prime. Basic back to the basket and a touch of hook shots. He definitely borderline top 10 best Centers all-time. Hope he win a chip in LA before he retires. Non arguably HOF.
He was a beast in Orlando and made it to the finals without any other allstars! If he only had a point guard that is very reliable back then they might have won the finals. Turkelu was pretty good back then. Miss the old dwight!
Fuck his back issues. The other reason he caught flack in LA was that, despite the fact that he had those back issues, and the fact that he's always been a limited P&R player....he still wanted the offense to flow heavily through him, in that post.....on a team that still had Kobe and Pau- two excellent post players.
Ik this was 5 months ago but Dwight’s redemption story in LA is amazing, I highly doubt after the failed 2012-13 superteam someone ever thought that Dwight would not only get a ring, but get a ring with the Lakers... Congrats to him, the man deserves and now the HOF waits him when he retires
In his prime, he was that one player who could be in 1 to 1 trade talk for Lebron. Nothing he could have done with the injuries but man only if his discipline was better.
Dwight had all the physical gifts for a player with broad shoulders and crazy vertical hops. Uber athletic and strong for his size. If he had a consistent post move like a jump hook or fadeaway like Lamarcus Aldridge, Dwight could maybe be a top 5 center all time.
Dwight was pretty much Bill Russel reincarnate. People really sleep on how athletic Russel was back in the day because it was the 60's and because he played at the same time as Wilt, but he was a force of nature that was *quicker* than Wilt and could elevate his head above the rim. He was also similar to Dwight in the sense that, despite their incredible gifts, neither ever became particularly skilled scorers. Their difference isn't in their physical abilities, but their mentality. Russel was a leader and competitor who *only* cared about winning and was willing to do *anything* or play any role to help his team succeed, while Dwight got butthurt and thought he needed to be a post scorer to impress Shaq. If Dwight had the same attitude, I believe he really could've been the next all-time great center, but instead he rebelled against the PnR future he was absolutely perfect for.
And this is the reason Dwight's a hall of famer, it's so annoying and dumb when people say he won't be in the hall of fame. They don't know his prime and how dominant he was in Orlando
He did not evolve as the league grows constantly. Cuz Bigman right now became hybrid. Aside from typical inside game. Bigs transcended to become threat on the outside and handling the ball well.
Jake T, m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8C9mM9jFKbE.html, if u like nba content u should check out this guy’s channel. He makes great nba content
Dwight Howard was an 8 x all-star, 8 time all NBA, 5 first team. Dwight was a top player for 5 seasons and you had guys like LeBron, Kobe, Wade, Durant, Cp3!
This might sound ridiculous today, but I remember how back in his prime days people discussed who they would built their team around: Dwight or LeBron.
Main issue with him is quite obvious actually.. He wanted to be Shaq. Due to all the media comparison, he forced himself to play instead of playing like himself. Going to LA solidified this idea in his head + that's why he forced to post up rather than PnR
the 2 biggest factors hindering dwight from multiple championships was 1. back injury 2. his desire to play like shaq. but then again shaq and kobe would of had more championships if it wasn't for their egos/attitude.
Let’s not forget Dwight have great durability. He played all 82 games for how many seasons. He even missed one game in Charlotte. Let’s not forget that he carried the Rockets on his back against the blazers. And he help Harden and exposed Deandre Jordan when Rockets came back 3-1
